Chewbacca Will Return in ‘Star Wars: Han Solo’ Spinoff

In the original Star Wars trilogy, Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and his wookie co-pilot Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew) were often inseparable, at each other’s sides through the duration of George Lucas’ beloved movies, and the current blockbuster Star Wars: The Force Awakens. In just over two short years, fans will get to see a much younger version of this smuggler in Star Wars Anthology: Han Solo, which is set for release on May 25, 2018. While Disney still hasn’t cast Han Solo quite yet, studio CEO Robert A. Iger revealed during Deutsche Bank’s 24th Annual Media, Internet and Telecom Conference (via The Wrap), that Chewbacca will be present for this “origin story.” Here’s what he had to say about the studio’s Star Wars lineup. J.J. Abrams plays the Chewbacca Defense card – fans don’t buy it

Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens was met with almost universal praise upon its release, but it did not escape spurring some controversy among viewers. One scene that left a lot of fans scratching their heads was when the Millennium Falcon returned to the Resistance Base at the end of the film. Those paying attention will notice that Chewbacca exits the Falcon and awkwardly walks past Leia while tending to Finn. Leia then has an emotional hug with Rey. Due to this scene closely following the death of Han Solo, many fans questioned why Leia and Chewie did not embrace one another after the loss of someone that was so close to both of them.

20th Century Fox issued a slew of new release dates for upcoming projects, including their highly-anticipated Predator sequel, which will hit theaters March 2, 2018. Writer-director Shane Black has previously revealed that the script is finished, which he co-wrote with Fred Dekker, and that it will be a sequel, not a reboot as previously rumored. While no cast members are officially attached yet, original Predator star Arnold Schwarzenegger revealed in an interview with The Arnold Fans that he’s planning on meeting with Shane Black soon to discuss the project. Former First Lady Nancy Reagan Dead at 94

Nancy Reagan, former First Lady of the United States, has died. She was 94.

The cause of death was congestive heart failure, according to her rep Joanne Drake, a spokeswoman with the Reagan Library.

“Mrs. Reagan will be buried at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California, next to her husband, Ronald Wilson Reagan, who died on June 5, 2004,” Drake wrote in a statement.

“Prior to the funeral service, there will be an opportunity for members of the public to pay their respects at the Library.”

“It is a very sad day,” former Ronald Reagan Chief of Staff Ken Duberstein told NBC News. “Every time she was in the room, he was better, and every time he was in the room she was better. She brought a sense of class and dignity and elegance that everybody admired.”

Her step-son Michael Reagan posted on Facebook: “She is once again with the man she loved. God Bless.”

“We remain grateful for Nancy Reagan’s life, thankful for her guidance, and prayerful that she and her beloved husband are together again,” President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama said in a statement.

Barbara Bush, another former first lady, said in a statement: “Nancy Reagan was totally devoted to President Reagan, and we take comfort that they will be reunited once more. George and I send our prayers and condolences to her family.”

Reagan was a Girl Scout and named honorary president of the Girl Scouts as first lady. The Girl Scouts of America said in a statement that Reagan would be remembered for her “courage, confidence and character.” Continue reading

Zendaya joins Tom Holland in Spider-Man reboot

Zendaya is swinging into the cast of Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures’ Spider-Man reboot.

The actress and singer has been cast alongside Tom Holland in the film, EW has confirmed.

Holland will star as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the new take on the web-slinger, which will be directed by Jon Watts (Cop Car) and due out in 2017. Marvel boss Kevin Feige has previously said the as-yet-untitled film will be inspired by John Hughes movies, and will not be an origin story. Continue reading

“Fantastic Four,” “Avengers” Artist Paul Ryan Passes Away

Paul Ryan, a comic book artist for lengthy runs on several Marvel Comics titles, passed away Sunday. He was 66.

“It is with sad news I report the passing of my cousin Paul,” wrote his cousin Chad Callanan on Facebook. “Chances are you were touched by him in your lifetime as he was the cartoonist for some of the most well known and beloved characters in the world. From Spider-Man, Thor, Iron Man, The Phantom to the Fantastic Four, most of which made it to the big screen and Hollywood. He was a true giant and artist, who achieved more success in his short life than any one of us would ever know in ten lifetimes. He was somebody who showed me how to dream big, but he was also my friend and that was good enough.” Continue reading

Justice League: J.K. Simmons to Play Commissioner Gordon

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Oscar-winning actor—who played J. Jonah Jameson in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy—joins Ben Affleck’s Batman, Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman and Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel in the superhero ensemble, which will be directed by Zack Snyder.

Simmons has been involved in a number of recent films, including 2015’s Whiplash, for which he won an Oscar for best supporting actor. He also voiced Mayor Lionheart in Disney’s animated film Zootopia, which debuted to record-breaking numbers.

Justice League: Part One opens on November 17, 2017 and begins filming next month. Meanwhile, Justice League: Part Two will make its theatrical debut on June 14, 2019. In addition to Simmons, Cavill, Affleck and Gadot, the superhero flick will also feature Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash and Ray Fisher as Cyborg. Here’s a sneak peek at The Flash’s costume.

Unfortunately for Green Lantern fans, the wait for the emerald crusader’s silver screen arrival will be a bit longer, as producer Charles Roven has confirmed Green Lantern won’t be in Part One and won’t appear until Part Two or possibly even later.
