VENOM Will Get a PG-13 Rating, Hoping That MCU Characters will Crossover in Future Films

For years we’ve been told that Marvel Studios’ MCU character would not crossover with Sony Pictures’ separate cinematic universe that they are building. But, that doesn’t mean Sony Pictures can’t hope for something a little more. They would love to see characters from the MCU eventually crossover with their future movies!

They are already taking steps to try to pave the way if it ever does happen. One of those steps is to ensure their first film there cinematic universe, Venom, gets a PG-13 rating. If it got an R-rating, Marvel Studios might not want to play ball with them later on down the road. Variety reports:

Red Skull May Still Be Alive in The MCU! Could He Show Up in AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR?

red-skull-may-still-be-alive-in-the-mcu-could-he-show-up-in-avengers-infinity-war11

Fans have speculated for years that the Red Skull is not dead in the MCU. I personally never believed that he died at the end of Captain America: The First Avengers, and now thanks to an Avengers: Infinity War prelude comic book, we’ve learned that he’s not dead.

ScreenRant pointed out a panel in the comic that features a flashback scene from the film and as you’ll see below, it suggests that Red Skull was not vaporized by an explosion of blue energy from the Tesseract, which contains the Space Stone. Instead, we see a “fooshhhh” of energy transporting him into space! This seems to confirm the big fan theory that the Red Skull is still alive and kicking in the MCU.

Why would a prequel comic to Infinity War make a point of showing us this if Red Skull isn’t being primed to appear in Infinity War? We have no idea where he has been this whole time, but it’s not hard to think or believe that he might actually play a role in Thanos’ big plan of collecting all the Infinity Stones.

Hell, maybe any of the characters that we thought were destroyed by the Infinity Stones aren’t dead at all. Those other characters include Malekith from Thor: The Dark World, Ronan from Guardians of the Galaxy, and Ultron from Avengers: Age of Ultron. It’s very possible that some of these characters might be alive, but Red Skull is the one that would make most sense.

A few months ago, Samuel L. Jackson seemed to let it slip that Red Skull was still alive, saying:

“You didn’t see me in Civil War. I’m still out there trying to figure out what, you know, The Skull is going to…”

There are a lot of things coming to the MCU, including all of the Marvel properties that Fox has owned over the years. A lot of fans have been wondering how the studio might integrate these X-Men characters into the MCU. Well, Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange) might have just answered that question.

During an interview in the “Marvel Studios: The First Ten Years – The Evolution of Heroes” featurette on the Thor: Ragnarok Blu-ray, Benedict Cumberbatch indicated that we’ll start seeing the Marvel Multiverse expand in as the studio moves into their Phase 4 plans. The actor explains:

Kevin Feige on When Marvel Studios Will Start Playing With The X-Men

Ever since Disney bought Fox and we learned that Marvel would be getting the rights to the X-Men and The Fantastic Four back, fans have been wondering, talking about, and speculating what Marvel plans on doing with these characters and when they will actually start to play with them.

During a recent interview with Vulture, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige shed some light on where he stands on all of this at the moment. After claiming that he found out about the big deal in the press like the rest of us saying, “These are big deals” and they are above his pay grade, he explained:

“The truth of the matter as I understand it is the deal has to be figured out. There’s been no communication. We’re not thinking about it. We’re focusing on everything we’ve already announced. If and when the deal actually happens, we’ll start to think more about it. Until then, we have a lot to do.”

It Sounds Like Spider-Man Is Only Going to Be a Part of the MCU For a Limited Time

When Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures worked out a deal for Spider-Man to be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, none of us really knew what that deal entailed. I thought Marvel would get to play with Spider-Man as much as they wanted to, but that doesn’t sound like that’s the deal that was made. It sounds like Spider-Man could only be a part of the MCU for a limited time.

Spider-Man made his big debut in Captain America: Civil War and is set to get his own film with Spider-Man: Homecoming. After that, he will appear in Avenger: Infinity War, and that will be followed by a second solo film. According to former Sony Pictures head Amy Pascal, after that sequel, Sony Pictures will regain full control of the character. When talking to CosmicBookNews, she explained:

“One of the things that I think is so amazing about this experience is that you don’t have studios deciding to work together to make a film very often. In fact it may never happen again, after we do the sequel. Because Sony, and Disney, and Marvel all decided that the right thing to do was to allow Peter Parker and Spider-Man to be in the MCU and to work with the Marvel guys and have them produce this film.

“I think that was a very rare thing for three companies to do, and a very brilliant thing for them to decide to do because there are only so many stories that you can tell again and again and again about Spidey, and this is something that we would have never been able to do in any other way.”

It sounds to me like after the Spider-Man sequel Sony will have to decide whether or not they want to stay in business with Marvel. That’s obviously not a guarantee. It would be a pretty big bummer to see Spider-Man leave the MCU after we get used to him being a part of it. But as you know, Sony is developing their own cinematic universe that will launch with Venom, and if that does well they’ll probably going to want to include Spider-Man in it. I don’t know why else they would want to yank him out of the MCU.

We’ve still got awhile to go before these decisions need to be made, but I hope that Sony will want to continue this Spider-Man sharing relationship with Marvel.

Marvel superheroes that won’t survive Avengers: Infinity War

Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War is scheduled for May 4, 2018, and promises to be a massive, epic, worthy “finale” for the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s first three chapters. By now, the MCU has grown to encompass dozens of heroes—meaning there are plenty of candidates to bite the dust in the epic battle with Thanos. And people will die: The film is loosely based on the Infinity Gauntlet comic book, which was one of the biggest events ever and killed off pretty much every one of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes at different points along the way. Who will Marvel Studios choose to eat it? Here’s our take on the candidates most likely to not survive Marvel’s blockbuster war: (POTENTIAL SPOILERS!) Continue reading

Tom Holland Confirms Spider-Man Will Be in AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR

I think it’s always been safe to assume that Spider-Man would be back in action fighting alongside the Avengers in Joe and Anthony Russo’s Avengers: Infinity War. However, there’s been no official confirmation until now, so if any of you had any doubt, Tom Holland confirmed it in an interview with Vogue. After all, the last we heard from Holland on the matter was that Spider-Man’s inclusion in the film was “all up in the air.” Continue reading
