If there’s a fan out there who thinks Marvel went through the trouble of negotiating shared custody of Spider-Man with Sony because they felt they could get something mediocre out of the character, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige assures you that the bar is set at least a little bit higher.
“Making that agreement … was great, and was really amazing, and on a personal level making these movies, it means a lot because I think we can do great things with Spider-Man,” Feige told IGN. “I think Spider-man can serve great purpose in our universe and that’s where he belongs. That was what was unique about him in the comics was not that he was the only superhero in the world; it’s that he was a totally different kind of superhero when compared against all the other ones in the Marvel universe at the time.”
You know what they say: “With great purpose, comes great profitability,”…wait, that’s not right…
Spider-Man will make his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in Captain America: Civil War.

A few months ago, fans were met with the incredibly sad news that Tron 3 was no longer in development. Apparently, Tron Legacy star Garrett Hedlund hasn’t been notified that the movie isn’t happening. During an interview with Comicbook.com he was asked about the third chapter in the franchise, and this is what he said:
“I haven’t been told it’s totally dead. Ever since we did Legacy, we knew that to have another story follow it up, it had to be concrete and exciting. Disney needed to have the right story to go forward.”
Men in Black is a trilogy that probably should have just ended after the original movie. The third film was better than the second one, but still — it didn’t seem like the filmmakers really had much to say after the first movie, which was more of a star vehicle for Will Smith and a showcase for what, at the time, were pretty impressive special effects.
In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, MIB producers Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald confirmed that not only is there a reboot in the works, but there are bigger plans for the franchise to continue on:
You produced Men in Black. Has there been talk of reviving that franchise with the new Sony regime?
PARKES: We’re in the middle of it. It’s very active.
Is Will Smith going to be part of it?
PARKES: Most likely no.
MACDONALD: It will be reinvented as a trilogy.
THR failed to ask them whether this newly reinvented trilogy would be the potential crossover with the 21 Jump Street movies, but I’m sure Sony wouldn’t think twice about linking both of those franchises together if it meant they could make money on three more films. Alone, Men in Black and Jump Street sequels probably wouldn’t do that well (the current narratives of both have been played out), but combined, curiosity might be enough to get people to come see what the heck a crossover between them would look like. If development is indeed “very active,” we should probably be hearing something about this in an official capacity from Sony soon.
Morgan Creek Productions has put its library of 78 films up for sale, and if the deal goes through with a potential buyer, the production company is set to retain the remake rights to Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, Major League, The Exorcist, Young Guns, and Flying Tigers.
I’m sure you can see where this is heading. Morgan Creek’s CEO told Deadline that they’re selling the rights to the library in order to make money to fund more movies, but it seems like at least some of those movies will be remakes of Ace Ventura, The Exorcist, and Major League; of the five available options, those are the three currently in development there. Hugh Jackman is preparing to play Logan one last time in his third standalone Wolverine movie. After that, we have no idea what to expect from 20th Century Fox when it comes to the character. There’s no way that the studio is going to give up on this cash cow, and we’re all expecting them to cast someone else in the role.
During an interview with MTV, Jackman is asked who he would like to see take over the role. After saying that a younger actor will most likely take over for him, he drops the name of Tom Hardy as a good fit for the role. That’s a suggestion that’s not hard to argue with. When Marvel and Sony teamed up to reboot Spider-Man and introduce the superhero into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, fans were excited as hell! Of course, in the process some things were sacrificed like the Sinister Six movie that Drew Goddard (Cabin in the Woods) was developing. I was more excited about that project than anything else Sony was working on before Marvel came into the picture.
