Lucasfilm Will Reportedly Start Shooting Their OBI-WAN KENOBI Movie in 2019 in Belfast

It looks like Lucasfilm might be farther along on the development of their Obi-Wan Kenobi movie than previously thought. It seems they are looking to shoot the film in Belfast at Paint Hall studios in the Titanic Quarter. This is where HBO’s Game of Thrones series is shot. According to the Belfast Telegraph, once production on Game of Thrones comes to an end, Lucasfilm will be moving in to start work on the Obi-Wan solo film. Apparently, they’ll start shooting in 2019. Oh, and George Lucas even visited Belfast to check out the shooting locations for the new film.

Movie mogul Lucas was pictured eating out in swanky Holywood restaurant Noble during his short Belfast visit. The snap led to frenzied speculation as to why he was visiting the city.

It’s understood that it was to give his seal of approval to the latest Star Wars spin-off being shot in Northern Ireland – a move that will pump millions of pounds into the local economy.

Lucas spent part of his time here last November being given a guided tour of the Paint Hall studios. Paint Hall sources said Lucas was hugely impressed by the Belfast studio.

George Lucas Was Developing a Han Solo Film Before Disney Bought Lucasfilm

Here’s an interesting bit of Star Wars trivia that I didn’t know until today! Solo: A Star Wars Story co-writer Lawrence Kasdan recently revealed in an interview with EW, that he was actually developing a standalone Han Solo film with George Lucas before Disney bought Lucasfilm.

If George Lucas wouldn’t have sold Lucasfilm to Disney, there’s a good chance that he was on the road to launching his own Star Wars expanded cinematic universe, which is pretty cool. According to the report:

Even before Lucasfilm was sold to Disney in 2012, launching a renaissance of galactic storytelling, Lawrence Kasdan had signed on to put together a Han Solo-centric movie.

Jabba The Hutt STAR WARS Spinoff Film in Development at Lucasfilm

theres-also-a-jabba-the-hutt-star-wars-spinoff-film-in-development-at-lucasfilm-social.jpg

Yesterday the big news hit that Lucasfilm was officially developing an Obi-Wan Kenobi film. This is something that a lot of fans were hoping were would see. It was also revealed that they were in talks with Billy Elliot director Stephen Daldry to direct it.

There was also a little piece of big news tucked away in an article by Variety that I hadn’t heard before. They say that on top of the Obi-Wan Kenobi movie and the Boba Fett movie that have been in development, they are also working on a Jabba The Hutt film!

I’ve never heard Jabba The Hutt being mentioned as a possible film before. The only time we’ve talked about the possibility of a Jabba The Hutt movie is when director Guillermo del Toro shared an idea that he had for it. When talking about it, he said:

“This is not real, this is me as a fat geek just geeking out and talking about it. I would do the sort of Godfather saga that Jabba the Hutt had to go through to gain control. One, because it’s the character that looks the most like me, and I like him. I love the idea of a Hutt type of mafia, a very complex coup. I just love the character.”

All I know is that I would love to watch a Jabba The Hutt Godfather-style gangster Star Wars movie! That would be amazing! You know what would be even more amazing!? If Del Toro actually came on board to direct it!

There’s no information on how far in development they are with the project, but a movie based on the underworld of the Star Wars universe, with Jabba The Hutt as the central figure could be pretty damn cool. What do you all think?

One Reason Why Lucasfilm Dropped The STAR WARS Extended Universe Was Because of Chewbacca

When Disney bought Lucasfilm and started on their journey to producing new Star Wars films, one of the first things they announced was that they would be ditching the Star Wars Extended Universe saying that none of it would be canon. This initially pissed a lot of fans off because the Extended Universe is full of great stories and characters.

There are actually many reasons why they decided to drop the Extended Universe and rebrand it into what is now called Star Wars Legends. Lucasfilm originally released a statement explaining why, but Star Wars Story Group member Leland Chee got a little more specific explaining that one reason came down to Chewbacca.

Why Chewbacca, you ask. Because Chewbacca was killed off in the Extended Universe and they wanted to play with that character in the films. While talking with SyFy.com, Chee, who also oversees The Holocron, which is basically Lucasfilm’s official version of Wookieepedia, had this to say:

Seems Like Liam Neeson Would Reprise His Qui-Gon Jinn Role in Lucasfilm’s OBI-WAN KENOBI Movie

It’s no secret that Lucasfilm is currently developing an Obi-Wan Kenobi movie. It’s in the very early stages of development and we have no idea what exactly they are planning. What we do know is that the studio is looking at hiring Stephen Daldry (Billy Elliot and The Hours) to direct.

We also know that Ewan McGregor is up for reprising his role if Lucasfilm comes knocking. Who knows, maybe they already have and no one is saying anything. Now Liam Neeson is saying that he’s open to reprising his role of Quin-Gon Jinn in the film if he’s asked! While talking to Yahoo, he was asked about the possibility of returning and this is what he said:

Lucasfilm Started Over on STAR WARS EPISODE IX After Carrie Fisher’s Death

The passing of Carrie Fisher was something no one expected, but when we lost our princess, it was quite clear that Lucasfilm would have to make some major adjustments. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said after they mourned Fisher’s passing, the story team and filmmakers scrambled to come up with a plan to handle Fisher’s absence in Episode IX:

“Obviously, with Carrie having passed away, it shook everybody,” Kennedy says. As they tried to figure out what this meant for Leia’s continuing story, the only option was to leave their original ideas behind. “We pretty much started over,”

Fisher had finished all her scenes on The Last Jedi before her untimely death, and Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger has since said that the movie will not be changed to deal with her passing. The Last Jedi will end as it was originally planned. StarWars.com also confirmed that Lucasfilm will not digitally recreate Leia in any way. Kennedy also recently told Good Morning America: “Sadly, Carrie will not be in nine,” Kennedy said. “But we will see a lot of Carrie in eight.”

It seems pretty safe to assume that The Last Jedi will be Princess or General Leia Organa’s final appearance in the Star Wars cinematic saga. I wonder if Lucasfilm will ever let us know what they were hoping Leia’s role in Episode IX would be. Or maybe we’ll eventually get a Star Wars story standalone about a young Princess Leia, only time will tell. What do you guys think?

Lucasfilm Is Looking at “Another Decade and a Half” of STAR WARS Films After Episode IX

lucasfilm-is-looking-at-another-decade-and-a-half-of-star-wars-films-after-episode-ix2

When Disney bought Lucasfilm from George Lucas for $4 billion, we all knew we were in for the long haul of Star Wars movies. Disney’s not going to spend that much money and not make every effort to make as much money as they possibly can from it, and Star Wars is the kind of franchise that could potentially live on throughout many of our lifetimes if handled right.

While speaking at USC’s Marshall School of Business recently, Disney CEO Bob Iger talked about the future of Star Wars after Episode IX is released. As of right now, they are already thinking about films that they could make over the next decade and a half! Iger said:

“We’re just starting to talk about what happens to Star Wars after [Episode] 9. It’s way too early, and certainly, nothing that I can reveal, but we’ve got a creative team actually thinking about what could be another decade and a half of Star Wars stories. It’s kind of mind-blowing to spend an afternoon with a creative team talking about that. Where could you go, where should we go?”

There are so many possibilities I imagine that any movie any fan would ever want to see happen is on the table. Whether or not those films happen or not is a different story, but we know that they are talking about them behind closed doors.

Iger went on to talk about losing Carrie Fisher and confirmed that they will not be changing anything about her character in Star Wars: The Last Jedi to reflect her death. They are leaving what they shot as is. He also says they will not be doing any CG digital work with the character:

“When we bought Lucasfilm, we were going to make three films — Episodes VIIVIII and IX,” said Iger. “We had to deal with tragedy at the end of 2016. Carrie appears throughout VIII. We are not changing VIII to deal with her passing. Her performance remains as it is in VIII. In Rogue One, we had some digital character. We are not doing that with Carrie.”

I’m sure that news will make fans happy. There was an uproar when rumors surfaced that they might bring Leia back in CGI form.

I’m just excited for the future of Star Wars. Lucasfilm has delivered two great films so far, and I can’t wait to see where it goes. It’s weird to think that I’ll probably still be watching new Star Wars films when I’m in my 50s and 60s!

Lucasfilm Has No Plans to Digitally Recreate Carrie Fisher

Lucasfilm Has No Plans to Digitally Recreate Carrie Fisher

Over the last week, rumors have surfaced that Lucasfilm was in talks with the estate of Carrie Fisher to possibly digitally recreate the late actress for Star Wars: Episode IX (she had already finished filming her scenes for Star Wars: Episode VIII before her death on December 27, 2016). In a rare case, Lucasfilm has put those rumors to rest with the following official statement: Continue reading
