Stan Lee, creator of legendary Marvel comic book superheroes, dies at 95

Stan Lee, the godfather of Marvel Comics whose cast of characters such as Spider-Man, the Hulk and the X-Men were beloved by millions of readers for decades before becoming a multibillion-dollar movie empire that dominated box offices in the 21st century, has died. He was 95.

Lee’s representative, Dawn Miller, confirmed he died Monday in Los Angeles.

Born Stanley Martin Lieber on Dec. 28, 1922, in New York City, Lee started his career as an office assistant at Timely Comics in 1939. As a teen, Lee said he was working odd jobs to help his parents pay the bills, when he heard about the position.

“I must’ve been the only one who applied because I got the job, and I thought it would be a temporary job,” Lee said in 2011. “I had never thought of writing comics.”

CAPTAIN MARVEL Will Be Set in the 1990s and Nick Fury Will Be Back… with Two Eyes

During the Marvel panel at Comic-Con today, Kevin Feige revealed a few cool new details regarding Captain Marvel! On top of showing off some concept art of Brie Larson as Captain Marvel, which you can see below, he also announced that the film would be set in the early 1990s!

This means the whole story will have taken place long before the events of Iron Man and I absolutely love that direction! This is certainly going to be an interesting period piece. I loved the 90s. Feige also confirmed that Samuel L. Jackson‘s Nick Fury would be back and since the story is set in the 90s… he’ll have both of his eyes, which is pretty fun.

I should probably also mention that The Skrulls will be in the movie! Yep, you read that correctly… The Skrulls! The Skrulls are a villainous alien race with shape-shifting abilities and they are hell bent on invading Earth and engaged in a prolonged war with the extraterrestrial Kree. You can check out some concept art of them below!

Feige didn’t go into any details on the story, but I love what I’m hearing about it and seeing from it so far! That’s all the info we have right, but we’ll fill you in on more details as they become avilable.

VENOM Film Will Reportedly Feature Ann Weying a.k.a. She-Venom and New Details on Venom’s Suit

about. Ann Weying. I had no idea who that was. I mean, sure, I do now, but it’s rare to be introduced to a character from comics that I haven’t heard of that might be featured in a Marvel film. But here we are, and she’s a big one.

Ann Weying is a successful lawyer and Eddie Brock’s ex-wife in the comics. She was shot by some dude and later became She-Venom. Classy title. While there isn’t any news that the character will turn into She-Venom in the film, it has recently revealed by The Hashtag Show that Sony is looking for actresses ages 25 to 32 to play the role in the upcoming Venom film.

New Kid Friendly FANTASTIC FOUR Movie Possibly in the Works at Fox

Dammit, Fox. Just stop it. You have some of the coolest Marvel villains all under the Fantastic Four rights and instead of just admitting defeat and letting those rights roll over, you gotta pull this shit.

So, Bleeding Cool is reporting that Fox has started working on another Fantastic Four movie with the help of Seth Grahame-Smith. Grahame-Smith is an author who created the Pride and Prejudice and Zombies book by mixing the original literature with his own zombified twist. He also was involved in helping with the last Fantastic Four movie script. And by help, I mean, trying to fix what was left of the train wreck of a script that existed.

Scarlett Johansson Reveals The Crazy Number of Characters That are in AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR

We figured Avengers: Infinity War was gonna have a lot of characters in it. After all, it’s Marvel’s penultimate film for what is the Marvel Universe’s Avengers smackdown. But I don’t think anyone had thought that it would have more than 50 characters let alone 60.

In a recent late night show visit with Stephen Colbert, Scarlett Johansson revealed that the amount of Marvel characters in the film would be around 61 or 62. When pressed if that is just in one scene, she clarified that there is about 32 in one specific scene. 61? 32? What sort of madman makes a film like that!?

Now, just how she defines a Marvel character could be interesting. Maybe there’s an extra in the film who plays a specific Marvel character that none of us know about. Off the top of my head, I can only even think of like 30 characters who have even been officially announced to be IN Avengers: Infinity War, let alone 60.

Granted, maybe she was just exaggerating in her interview, but then again 61 or 62 seems like a rather specific number to pull out of the air. She could have just said around 50 or something, but she said 61 or 62. This movie looks like it’s going to be CRAZY packed with Marvel characters. I’m excited to see it just for the fact that this many big stars are in one movie that isn’t revolving around a holiday. In fact, it almost seems like there might be… Too many Cooks…..

Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series Comes to Comics

The Guardians of the Galaxy have defied expectations, as the ragtag team of space adventurers jumped from comics to movies to cartoons and now video games with “Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series,” an interactive episodic game series launching today.

But wait—it doesn’t end there.

The team has now come full circle, as writer Fred Van Lente and artist Salva Espin get set to tell the story of what happened before the story that will unfold in the game with GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY: THE TELLTALE SERIES, a five-issue comic book prequel to Telltale’s game beginning in July.

Update on Marvel Comic’s Mysterious Hulk/Wolverine Hybrid Story

So about a month ago, we all were shown an interesting image of a Hulk looking thing with Wolverine looking claws in a test tube. Well, some new light has been shown on what many are calling ‘Hulkverine”. That sounds terrible. Please say they get a better name for it.

Anyway, the largest mystery was who or what this creature is considering Banner is dead and original Wolverine is dead. Now granted, this could be some weird resurrection cult. In a different issue of comics, namely Uncanny Avengers some ninjas from the Fist which is like a weird offshoot of the Hand stole Bruce Banner’s body and tried bringing him back to life as a Hulk Ninja. Ya. Kindof the worst combo in the world. Take what is quite possibly the WORST stealth character in Marvel and make him a ninja. That’s like turning Spiderman into a responsible adult… which I guess they did. Ok, it’s like turning Deadpool into a Pacifist… which they also did kinda recently. Fine, it’s like turning Iron Man into a Kindergarten Teacher. Am I good? Has marvel done that yet? Oh. Iron Man’s dead? ok then. We good.

This new image which was posted on Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso posted on Twitter a few days ago shows a blueprint on the Hulk with claws. Now, the biggest flaw I can imagine right from the get-go is does the Hulk stay the hulk,? Because if he shrinks and the bones are adamantium he’s gonna rip up.

We now have a little more info about where this Hulk/Wolverine is going to fit in. There is a new Weapon X that is in the comics and they are messing with all things crazy. Namely Batch H. It will play a main role in a crossover titled “Weapons of Mutant Destruction”. This crossover of the Totally Awesome Hulk and Weapon X comic series will have current Hulk, Amadeus Cho, teaming up with a team of mutants led by Old Man Logan trying to stop Weapon X from killing the mutant race. Finally, back to stories that make sense. The team that Logan leads includes Old standby’s like Sabretooth, Lady Deathstrike, Domino and Warpath. We’ll have to see where this all leads to in April when the crossover begins but you can start reading the first issue of Weapon X and Amadeus Cho now.

Unworthy Thor: Revelations

Finally find out what felled the Odinson with writer Jason Aaron!

As Thor fans know, the Odinson has had a pretty difficult go of it lately. With the loss of his worthiness, he has found himself on a bit of a journey of self-discovery. As UNWORTHY THOR wraps up, we’ll see what this arc means both for his role in the larger Marvel Universe, and his place in the MIGHTY THOR series moving forward.

We chatted with writer Jason Aaron about what lies ahead for the Odinson.

Marvel.com: UNWORTHY THOR has forced the Odinson to figure out who he is without his worthiness. Can you give us your take on the journey he has gone through?

Jason Aaron: Everything I’ve done over the last few years with making Thor Odinson unworthy and bringing Jane Foster in was about telling a very specific story with her and with a different sort of Thor. But I also wanted to give Thor Odinson his own journey, so I wouldn’t just push him aside. I like the idea of watching him wrestle with his unworthiness and seeing how that changes him, how it makes him a very different sort of character. I think this [limited series] gave us the biggest version of that kind of story that we’ve done. We’ve seen a darker, angrier, very different kind of Thor Odinson.

Marvel.com: Can you tell us a little about your experience writing both UNWORTHY THOR and MIGHTY THOR simultaneously?

Jason Aaron: I love writing Thor. I’ve been doing it for several years now and I have a big pile of Thor stories I’ve wanted to get to. It felt great to have the chance to write two Thor books at once. And to get to work with artists Russell Dauterman and Olivier Coipel at the same time felt like an extravagance of riches. Olivier is already established as one of the best Thor artists ever, and I see Russell rising up the ranks, as well. His art just gets better and better with every arc. And I’ve enjoyed doing these two very different Thor stories at the same time; now we’ll see the two characters collide, and the Odinson’s story will get wrapped up again with Jane Foster’s.

Marvel.com: This is the last issue of the UNWORTHY THOR series; could you tell us a little about what’s next for the Odinson?

Jason Aaron: You can expect to see him pop up in the pages of MIGHTY THOR very soon. He has missed a lot in the time he has been away, so he’ll have a lot to catch up on. And as you can see from the tease at the end of the UNWORTHY THOR #5, we still have more story to tell with the hammer of the Ultimate Thor. After the current MIGHTY THOR arc wraps up, we’ll dive into the story of a brand new Ultimate Thor—yet another very different sort of Thor added to the mix.

Marvel.com: You mentioned the hammer of the Ultimate Thor, which the Odinson encounters in UNWORTHY THOR. What role will it play in his story moving forward?

Jason Aaron: It will have its own big arc, when someone else comes along and picks up the hammer, and gets transformed by it in a different way. This hammer is a little different in that it’s a relic from a dead universe, a holdover from the Ultimate Universe that somehow survived through the events of Secret Wars. The exact nature of that hammer, how it differs from the hammer of Thor in the mainstream Marvel Universe, how it affects someone who wields it, we’ll answer those questions in the pages of MIGHTY THOR.

Marvel.com: In this issue, we finally learn what Nick Fury whispered to the Odinson in Original Sin that made him unworthy. He said, “Gorr was right.” What kind of impact did you hope this reveal would have on the Odinson’s story?

Jason Aaron: The idea with this mystery stretches back to the beginning of my run on Thor. We still see the effects that Thor’s battle with Gorr the God Butcher had on him, and the overall meaning of what Gorr did and why. I think as long as I’m guiding Thor’s ship, that idea of worthiness and what it means to be a god in the Marvel Universe will remain prominent themes. And I think this reveal shows that these questions still plague Thor Odinson, and I don’t expect that to go away anytime soon.
