George Lucas Was Developing a Han Solo Film Before Disney Bought Lucasfilm

Here’s an interesting bit of Star Wars trivia that I didn’t know until today! Solo: A Star Wars Story co-writer Lawrence Kasdan recently revealed in an interview with EW, that he was actually developing a standalone Han Solo film with George Lucas before Disney bought Lucasfilm.

If George Lucas wouldn’t have sold Lucasfilm to Disney, there’s a good chance that he was on the road to launching his own Star Wars expanded cinematic universe, which is pretty cool. According to the report:

Even before Lucasfilm was sold to Disney in 2012, launching a renaissance of galactic storytelling, Lawrence Kasdan had signed on to put together a Han Solo-centric movie.

Ron Howard Makes First Statement About Directing The HAN SOLO Film

It’s been a whirlwind of insanity over at Lucasfilm the past few days. After five months of filming and about four weeks of production to go, Phil Lord and Chris Miller were fired from Han Solo because their vision didn’t align with Lucasfilm’s. There are a lot of new details regarding that, which you can read about here.

Ron Howard has since been hired to take over the directing duties and he’s received an outpouring of support from Lucasfilm and his fans. The filmmaker recently took to Twitter to make his first statement since he was hired to complete the production work that was started by Lord and Miller.

I couldn’t be happier to see him come on board to finish directing the Han Solo film. I’m sure the plan is to take as much of the footage that was already shot as he can and then use his talents to smooth things out and make it all work. That will include finishing shooting the remainder of the film as we’ll as reshooting certain scenes.

One thing we know for sure is the movie has a solid script co-written by Lawrence Kasdan. That’s obviously the direction that Lucasfilm wants to take this character. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy also seems optimistic about the outcome of the film, previously saying:

“We have a wonderful script, an incredible cast and crew, and the absolute commitment to make a great movie. Filming will resume the 10th of July.”

As of right now, Howard will be going through all the footage that Lord and Miller already shot and he will then start to formulate his plan on how to proceed and finish the film.

Kathleen Kennedy Clarifies That Han Solo’s Name Is Actually Han Solo

Kathleen Kennedy is doing some cleanup work following the conclusion of Star Wars Celebration. Among some other confusing statements, Kennedy cleared up some remarks that led some fans to believe that Disney CEO Bob Iger was implying Han Solo’s real name isn’t Han Solo. Kennedy responded to the statement (via Slashfilm) saying she’s not sure what Iger meant by the statement…

“I’m not sure that’s entirely what Bob [Iger] meant. There’s more to Han Solo’s name, but it’s not that it’s not his name. It’s obviously his name. It will always be his name.”

Could you imagine the fan outcry if all the sudden we learned that Han Solo was just a front and our beloved smuggler was once known under a different name? I guess ultimately it would depend on how it was handled, but we all know how fans of Star Wars react when the past is changed. The new Han Solo film is due out May 25th, 2018.

New HAN SOLO Movie Details Reveal His Real Name Might Not Be Han Solo

Thanks to Disney CEO Bob Iger, we’ve learned some new details about the Han Solo film that Phil Lord and Chris Miller are currently in production on.

We learn that the film will follow Han from the ages of 18 to 24-years-old. It will follow his adventures of how he acquired the Millennium Falcon and met Chewbacca. Lando obviously plays a big role in Solo’s life. This is what Iger told a group of students at a special USC lecture:
