John Williams Will Score Indiana Jones 5 & Star Wars: Episode VIII

American Film Institute 44th Life Achievement Award Gala Tribute to John Williams

The American Film Institute held a red carpet event honoring legendary film composer John Williams with a lifetime achievement award. The 84-year-old Williams, whose work on all four Indiana Jones films as well as all seven Star Wars Saga films are career-defining, took the opportunity to assure the world he would be back for Lucasfilm‘s next installments of both franchises.

“If I can do it, I certainly will,” Williams confirmed to Variety of his commitment to do the music for Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: Episode VIII, currently in the home stretch of filming. “I told Kathy Kennedy I’m happy to do it, but the real reason is, I didn’t want anybody else writing music for Daisy Ridley.” Continue reading

The Official STAR WARS Explanation for Kylo Ren’s Ash Table is Pretty Dark

The Official STAR WARS Explanation for Kylo Ren’s Ash Table is Pretty Dark
Ever since we first saw Darth Vader’s mask in Kylo Ren‘s hands in that trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, there has been an inkling: is the new Dark Side wielder basically a huge nerd? He built his own lightsaber, he’s basically cosplaying a Sith (unlike grandpa, he doesn’t actually need that mask), and he owns perhaps the best piece of war memorabilia in his corner of the galaxy.

On the day The Force Awakens was released on Blu-ray, J.J. Abrams has revealed to EW that he’s even more of a collector than you realized. Continue reading

‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Almost Had a Yoda Cameo

‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Almost Had a Yoda Cameo

Star Wars: The Force Awakens went through quite a few rewrites and changes over the course of three years. And we’ve heard a lot about certain classic characters that almost made the cut. Jedi master Yoda may have gotten closest of all, but alas, most of his scenes were cut from the movie, except for a few quick snippets of dialogue. Yoda would have reappeared as a Force Ghost, just as he did at the end of Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi. But that idea was nixed early on in the process. The Force Awakens editors Maryann Brandon and Mary Jo Markey revealed to ET that the diminutive green warrior was being considered for the sequel. They even went so far as to have original Yoda puppeteer Frank Oz come in and participate. Continue reading

I’ve seen Star Wars: The Force Awakens three times already, and it won’t be the last time I see it in theaters. It’s such an awesomely entertaining movie, but by the end of it, we were left with just as many questions as were answered.

After talking to friends about the film, I came up with a list of six of the biggest questions I had for the film. I tried to find information on them, and then offered up my own theories on what it means, or what we could see in future films.

Obi-Wan and Yoda are secretly in Star Wars: The Force Awakens

There were more old friends in Star Wars: The Force Awakens than we may have realized.

Those who saw the film this weekend (and those who haven’t may want to stop here) know that midway through the movie Daisy Ridley’s lonely scavenger Rey has a vision, a dream-like flashback sequence after she discovers Luke Skywalker’s long-lost lightsaber in the basement of Maz Kanata’s castle.

As Rey touches it, she is hit with an impressionistic wave of images and sounds that depict a cloaked Luke Skywalker in mourning, reaching out for support (or to comfort) R2-D2 beside a fire. She sees bodies scattered in a rainstorm at the feet of Kylo Ren and the masked and menacing Knights of Ren. She sees herself as a young girl, being left in the coarse hands of junk dealer Unkar Plutt on the desert world of Jakku. Continue reading
