In the wake of Deadpool‘s massive box office success, it shouldn’t be too long until we hear about an X-Force movie officially getting the green light and moving into production at 20th Century Fox. Kick-Ass 2 director Jeff Wadlow wrote a script a couple of years ago, and was supposed to be directing the live-action feature, but that never ended up happening. But Ryan Reynolds has spoken about X-Force as “a priority,” and considering how much money Deadpool made this past weekend, I’d guess Fox will push that plan through fairly quickly. Continue reading
In July of 2013, Jeff Wadlow, the writer and director of Kick-Ass 2 (2013), was hired by 20th Century Fox to pen the screenplay for an X-Force movie, which he would possibly helm as well.Over the past two years, Wadlow has stated that his team would be a five-member lineup. He never confirmed which characters it would consist of, though, he did say he was a fan of Deadpool, Wolverine, Cable, Psylocke, Domino and Colossus.In that same span, X-Force creator Rob Liefeld praised the script numerous times, calling it “beyond impressive” and revealing that the best part is that it shows the “camaraderie between the team as they learn to cope and trust one another!” Liefeld also divulged that Cable and Deadpool were in it. James Cameron has been wanting to get his big screen live action adaptation of Alita: Battle Angel off the ground for a very, very long time. Then he started work on all those Avatar sequels which have him tied up over the next several years. He’s obviously not going to have the opportunity to direct Alita: Battle Angel anytime soon, so he and his producing partner Jon Landau are going to hire someone else to do it. Continue reading
There’s been some talk of a Kingsman: The Secret Service sequel for awhile now, and earlier this year we learned that 20th Century Fox started the process of developing that sequel. There’s a major shakeup today on 20th Century Fox’s side of the Marvel Universe as The Wrap is reporting that Channing Tatum has exited the upcoming X-Men spinoff, Gambit. The film was planned to go before cameras in October, although Tatum’s exit now leaves the film’s future uncertain. Continue reading
20th Century Fox is looking to reboot the film adaptation of Alan Moore and Kevin O’Neill’s graphic novel The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. The original movie was released in 2003 and starred Sean Connery as Allan Quartermaine, but it turned out to be a dud. The original plan was to launch a film franchise based on the property, but it didn’t make enough money to warrant any sequels. A TV series was in development in 2013 with Green Lantern writer Michael Green on board as showrunner, and exec producer alongside Erwin Stoff. Fox made a put pilot commitment but the show was not ordered to series. Continue reading
It’s been months since a Deadpool movie was officially confirmed by 20th Century Fox, but I’m still having trouble believing that it’s actually moving forward. This is one of those projects, like a new Ghostbusters movie, that has been talked about endlessly for years and years, and now both of them are finally happening (and more, in Ghostbusters’ case). Star Ryan Reynolds, who has spoken a lot about the film since its official greenlight, opened up again in a recent interview with Shortlist, and mentioned that he thinks the film will definitely please the vocal, super critical section of fanboys that have been following this project for years: Continue reading
