I’m really hoping that Tim Miller’s Deadpool film does well enough at the box office to warrant a sequel. I know the fans are going to love it, but there’s a whole audience out there that has no idea who Deadpool is, and they are the ones who will decide the fate of the film because they drastically outnumber the fans.
If Miller and Ryan Reynolds do get to make a sequel, we know one character who will be included. While talking to Empire, Miller reveals that he wants Cable to join the franchise.
“We kind of wanted a straight-man to play against Colossus. We thought about Cannonball, but he would’ve been a stupid hick character, whereas the guys wrote Negasonic as this deadpan goth teen, which was a great angle. She turned out really well. There aren’t really many definitive Deadpool villains, apart from Cable. If we don’t put Cable in ‘Deadpool 2,’ I think we’ll be run out of town on a rail.”
It honestly wouldn’t make sense to keep the Deadpool film franchise going without the inclusion of Cable. He has to be a part of it! These two characters play off each other so freakin’ well and let’s face it: they belong in a movie together. They’ve earned it with their crazy awesome stories and adventures!
Deadpool is scheduled to open February 12th, 2016.
It’s been months since a Deadpool movie was officially confirmed by 20th Century Fox, but I’m still having trouble believing that it’s actually moving forward. This is one of those projects, like a new Ghostbusters movie, that has been talked about endlessly for years and years, and now both of them are finally happening (and more, in Ghostbusters’ case).
