One of the things I was looking forward to seeing most in Deadpool 2 was the X-Force team in action! We got to see a little action from all of them in the trailers, but if you saw the movie, you know that things did play out the way we thought they would. If you haven’t seen the movie yet, I get into some spoiler territory as the director and writers of the film discuss how they handled these characters.
Deadpool 2 opened in theaters last night and I’m sure a lot of you already went out and saw it. If you did, there were a few surprising cameos in the film that you may have missed. They aren’t easy to spot! There are a few big cameos that are easy to spot, but some of the others had to be pointed out to me by a friend of mine.
If you haven’t seen the movie yet, the following information will give you a heads up on what to look for. But, if you don’t want to know, and you just want to try and spot the cameos on your own, then don’t read ahead. There are some big spoilers.
Earlier this week Josh Brolinconfirmed that Deadpool 2 was going through some reshoots. Then there were a bunch of reports that the test screenings for the film didn’t go over with audiences very well and that there were some big story problems. One person even said that the movie is an “Alien 3 blunder”.
Fans speculated that the reason for the reshoots was to fix these story problems. Well, today we have a conflicting report. According to Collider‘s Steve Weintraub, the reshoots are being done to add more of Cable and Domino (Zazie Beetz) to the film because the characters got a lot of positive reception from audiences during the test screenings. That’s right, apparently, the test screenings weren’t as bad as they were made out to be by some people:
We’ve all been waiting for it and here it is! Ryan Reynolds has released a photo giving us our first look at Josh Brolin as Cable in Deadpool 2! He looks so freakin’ badass!
Last week we were treated with two photos giving us our first look at Zazie Beats as Domino and those photos were met with some controversy because it’s not completely faithful to the comic book version of the character. I think all of that worry will fade away once fans are watching the movie.
Josh Brolin is gearing up to play the Mad Titan in the upcoming Avengers #InfinityWar in May 2018. This movie will blow the minds of every Marvel fan as it promises to connect every single character together for a two-part epic event. On the Fox side of things, they are setting up the #XForce, but it looks like Brolin will be dipping his foot into that pool as well. Continue reading →
Michael Shannon frontrunner to play Cable in Deadpool 2
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Deadpool 2 is getting close to casting the much-sought-after role of Cable, and at the top of the studio’s wish list is none other than General Zod himself, Michael Shannon (Man of Steel, Midnight Special). An intense two-time Oscar nominee (Revolutionary Road and last year’s Nocturnal Animals), Shannon is currently the top choice pending scheduling, though Stranger Things actor David Harbour and several others are also on the shortlist. Kyle Chandler was previously rumored for the role but is no longer in contention, and Liam Neeson was also in the rumor mill.
Being able to play a character in both the DC and Marvel world isn’t a new thing, as Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds proved appearing in Marvel’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Blade Trinity and Deadpool, as well as DC’s Green Lantern. Shannon himself has done three DC Comics movies with Man of Steel, a small part in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and in the flop Jonah Hex. He would certainly be a deadly serious foil to the clownish antics of Deadpool.
We recently talked to screenwriter Rhett Reese, who gave us a taste of what the relationship between Cable and the Merc with the Mouth will be in the upcoming sequel. “Ryan plays Deadpool with a hint of femininity, and I think that can be funny opposite a Cable who’s über-masculine,” Reese told us. “That’ll come into casting and performance and the character design and his wardrobe and things like that too. I think we’ll definitely play into that.”
Reese also recently confirmed to Cinema Blend that both an X-Force movie and a Deadpool 3 are being planned as separate follow-ups to Deadpool 2.
“I also think (Deadpool 2) is working in an expansive way towards X-Force, which will really be more of an ensemble. But then that will allow us to do both an X-Force movie and a Deadpool 3, which actually contracts back down… I think we’ll be able to take two paths. One is where we’re launching something bigger, but then another where we’re contracting and staying personal and small. So I think best of all worlds, really.”
Deadpool 2 is set to introduce two key characters from the X-Force world, including Zazie Beetz (Atlanta) as Domino, a luck-manipulating mutant, and Cable, the time-traveling son of the X-Men’s Cyclops. John Wick‘s David Leitch is directing Deadpool 2 from a screenplay by the returning “real heroes here,” screenwriters Reese and Paul Wernick. Reynolds is again serving as a producer on Deadpool 2 alongside X-Men franchise caretakers Simon Kinberg and Lauren Shuler Donner.
Shannon’s next high-profile gig is one of the leads in Guillermo del Toro’s Civil Rights-era monster movie The Shape of Water, and he will also play George Westinghouse opposite Benedict Cumberbatch’s Thomas Edison in The Current War.
Series star and producer Ryan Reynolds has taken to Twitter to dispel a rumor and make an announcement of his own by revealing that Zazie Beetz has joined the cast of Deadpool 2 as Domino! Domino’s mutant ability allows her to manipulate probability in her favor, making her a lethal mercenary just like Wade Wilson. Continue reading →
Even though Deadpool 2 doesn’t have a director anymore, 20th Century Fox isn’t slowing down one bit. Not only is the studio moving full steam ahead on this impending sequel with an empty director’s chair, they are already in the planning stages on Deadpool 3. And the movie will introduce the X-Force. Continue reading →
With Deadpool 2 now in the works, rumors and speculations abound on which superheroes will be joining the Merc with a Mouth and the actors who will be playing them. The biggest discussion right now, of course, concerns gun-toting, time-travelling Cable, a role that several actors are already being considered, and even campaigned, for. Continue reading →
In the Mutant Universe, there is a clearly defined scale accounting for the power level of the various superheroes, villains, robots, mutants and aliens that bum around, because of course there is. We geeks need something tangible to hang our terrible arguments about “who would win in a fight” on, which is exactly what this scale does. At the lower end of the spectrum you have the everyday shmoes – the comic book equivalent of us civilians – and at the very top of the scale is where you’ll find the so-called “Omega level” superpeople.
They are characters who were born with the X-gene and have had an almost limitless amount of power at their fingertips as soon as they left the womb (or even before, in some cases). So with that said lets start off our list! See if any of our top 10 hit your list! Continue reading →
