Thomas Wayne Will Be Played By Brett Cullen in DC’s JOKER

Actor Brett Cullen has replaced Alec Baldwin in the role of Thomas Wayne, the father of Bruce Wayne, in DC Entertainment’s Joker. Cullen previously played a Congressman in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises, so this isn’t his first Batman movie rodeo. He seems like a decent choice for the role. I like the thought of him in the role more than Baldwin. That was just alittle too weird.

Cullen joins Joaquin Phoenix in the title role, who we recently got our first look at in the film. He also joins Robert De NiroFrances ConroyMarc Maron, and Zazie Beetz. De Niro will play a reporter; Beetz will play a single mother who catches the attention of the Joker prior to his transformation the villain; and Conroy will play Joker’s mother, Penny.

The Joker Origin Movie in the Works at Warner Bros. and DC

The Joker Origin Movie in the Works at Warner Bros. and DC

The Joker origin movie in the works at Warner Bros. and DC

Warner Bros. Pictures and DC are in the early stages of developing at Joker origin movie, according to Deadline. The site says that The Hangover‘s Todd Phillips will co-write the script with 8 Mile‘s Scott Silver. Phillips will direct the movie, to be produced by Martin Scorsese and Phillips.

The Joker origin movie will be the first film under a new banner that Warner Bros. has yet to name, but which will expand the canon of DC Comics properties and create unique storylines with different actors playing the characters.

The Joker has previously been played by Jack Nicholson in Batman, by Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight, and by Jared Leto in Suicide Squad. The site adds that Leto will reprise the character in the Suicide Squad sequel and the Harley Quinn spinoff, Gotham City Sirens. This new film, however, will feature a different actor, possibly younger.

Also of note is the setting. Deadline claims that “the intention is to make a gritty and grounded hard-boiled crime film set in early-’80s Gotham City that isn’t meant to feel like a DC movie as much as one of Scorsese’s films from that era, like Taxi Driver, Raging Bull or The King Of Comedy.”

While it’s unknown when this Joker origin movie would be released, Phillips and Silver are already writing the script.

DC Comics Announces: Justice League Vs. Suicide Squad

It’s not just Marvel getting in on the ‘superteams duking it out’ stuff lately—DC is joining in on the fun with a newly announced event that is setting two of their current most popular teams, the Justice League and the Suicide Squad, at each other’s throats.

Revealed through Wall Street Journal, the event series—written by Joshua Williamson, with art from Jason Fabok—will see Batman decide once and for all that Waller’s Task Force X must be shut down permanently (presumably President Obama agrees with him?), calling in his Justice League allies to bring them in. Expertly edited to Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody,” director David Ayer’s love letter to the bad guys looks like a whole lot of fun. We’re wondering, though, how serious does this movie take these characters? The Queen makes it seem like “Not so much” which is the exact opposite of the tone we got from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which takes place in this same world.
