Disney Starting Development on MALEFICENT 2
According to Deadline, Disney has started developing a sequel to their 2014 Angelina Jolie fantasy film Maleficent. The studio has already hired screenwriter Linda Wolverton (writer of the first film) to write it, and it will obviously once again focus on the title character. The studio is hoping that Jolie will return to reprise her role, and they are keeping her in the loop in the writing process. There’s no guarantee that Jolie will return, but it would be kind of weird to follow through with the sequel if she doesn’t.
Chris Hemsworth Cast in GHOSTBUSTERS Reboot as the Receptionist
Chris Hemsworth (Thor) has been cast in director Paul Feig’s female Ghostbusters reboot, and he’ll be taking on the role of the receptionist. Dwayne Johnson to lead Big Trouble in Little China remake
It’s okay, Kurt Russell. Getting replaced by The Rock isn’t a dishonor by any stretch of the imagination—especially after San Andreas raked in almost $115 million worldwide for his best opening weekend ever. Dwayne Johnson is currently in talks to star in and produce a remake of the John Carpenter classic, Big Trouble in Little China, EW has confirmed. Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz, who wrote the sleek X-Men: First Class, are attached to pen the script. The Wrap first reported the development.
Naturally, Johnson would play Jack Burton, a trucker lured into the seedy, magical underworld in San Francisco’s Chinatown. The original, which starred Russell and Kim Cattrall, grossed a meek $11 million at the box office, but has become retroactively beloved.
Fox Is Rebooting THE LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN
20th Century Fox is looking to reboot the film adaptation of Alan Moore and Kevin O’Neill’s graphic novel The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. The original movie was released in 2003 and starred Sean Connery as Allan Quartermaine, but it turned out to be a dud. The original plan was to launch a film franchise based on the property, but it didn’t make enough money to warrant any sequels. A TV series was in development in 2013 with Green Lantern writer Michael Green on board as showrunner, and exec producer alongside Erwin Stoff. Fox made a put pilot commitment but the show was not ordered to series. Continue reading
