Female-Led Greatest American Hero Reboot Pilot Ordered by ABC

The reboot of The Greatest American Hero with a female lead gets a put pilot commitment from ABC

A reboot of the early ’80s TV series The Greatest American Hero has gotten a put pilot commitment from ABC, according to Deadline. The half-hour, single-camera comedy will feature Meera, an Indian-American woman as the lead. The reboot comes to us from Fresh Off the Boat writer/producer Rachna Fruchbom and Nahnatchka Khan’s Fierce Baby. 20th Century Fox TV will co-produce with ABC Studios. Fruchbom will write the script. She’ll produce with Mandy Summers from Fierce Baby as well as the original show producer Steven J. Cannell’s daughter, television director Tawnia McKiernan.

Meera will reportedly be a 30-year-old Indian-American woman from Cleveland, “whose talents include tequila drinking and karaoke and not much else. Then some aliens entrust her with a super suit to protect the planet, and the world has never been in more unreliable hands.”

Based on the ABC-TV series which ran from 1980 to 1983, The Greatest American Hero follows a nebbishy teacher who becomes a reluctant superhero after extraterrestrials give him a special suit with powers he can barely understand or control when he loses its instruction manual. The original stars William Katt, Robert Culp and Connie Sellecca. The LEGO Movie and former Han Solo movie directors were attached to a reboot of The Greatest American Hero back in 2014.

What do you guys think of the idea of a reboot of The Greatest American Hero with a female lead? Did you watch the original series back in the early ’80s with William Katt? Is the theme song now stuck in your head? We want to hear from you! Leave us your thoughts in the comments below

Brenton Thwaites (The GiverPirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales) has been cast in the role of Dick Grayson a.k.a. Robin in the upcoming live-action DC series Titans. He’s a pretty talented young actor and I didn’t expect an actor like him to end up in the role as he’s been in a bunch of big movies. This will be his first TV gig.

Director M. Night Shyamalan has started development on his upcoming film Glass, which will continue the stories he started with Unbreakable and Split. It’s pretty exciting to see that Shyamalan is actually able to make this happen! That twist ending at the end of Split when we saw Bruce Willis as David Dunn sitting in the coffee shop completely floored me! That was so freakin’ cool!

The Joker Origin Movie in the Works at Warner Bros. and DC

The Joker Origin Movie in the Works at Warner Bros. and DC

The Joker origin movie in the works at Warner Bros. and DC

Warner Bros. Pictures and DC are in the early stages of developing at Joker origin movie, according to Deadline. The site says that The Hangover‘s Todd Phillips will co-write the script with 8 Mile‘s Scott Silver. Phillips will direct the movie, to be produced by Martin Scorsese and Phillips.

The Joker origin movie will be the first film under a new banner that Warner Bros. has yet to name, but which will expand the canon of DC Comics properties and create unique storylines with different actors playing the characters.

The Joker has previously been played by Jack Nicholson in Batman, by Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight, and by Jared Leto in Suicide Squad. The site adds that Leto will reprise the character in the Suicide Squad sequel and the Harley Quinn spinoff, Gotham City Sirens. This new film, however, will feature a different actor, possibly younger.

Also of note is the setting. Deadline claims that “the intention is to make a gritty and grounded hard-boiled crime film set in early-’80s Gotham City that isn’t meant to feel like a DC movie as much as one of Scorsese’s films from that era, like Taxi Driver, Raging Bull or The King Of Comedy.”

While it’s unknown when this Joker origin movie would be released, Phillips and Silver are already writing the script.

Live-Action Ghost In The Shell (2017) will be a cult classic

So the live-action Ghost In The Shell movie came and went, and with it, the dream of seeing a high-quality Hollywood produced live-action anime, such as Akira or Battle Angel, took another big step backwards. Fans and critics were, for the most part, on the same page, as the film only made $40M in its first month in the US, and it’s Rotten Tomatoes score sits (at the time of this writing), at 46%. So the immediate reaction is to say that this movie is a bust. But that may or may or be the case. In fact, I am positive that in a few years, future critics and audiences will react more favorable to this film. Continue reading
