So the live-action Ghost In The Shell movie came and went, and with it, the dream of seeing a high-quality Hollywood produced live-action anime, such as Akira or Battle Angel, took another big step backwards. Fans and critics were, for the most part, on the same page, as the film only made $40M in its first month in the US, and it’s Rotten Tomatoes score sits (at the time of this writing), at 46%. So the immediate reaction is to say that this movie is a bust. But that may or may or be the case. In fact, I am positive that in a few years, future critics and audiences will react more favorable to this film. Continue reading

Proving That This is Actually Happening, Paramount Releases First Image Of Scarlett Johansson in ‘Ghost In The Shell’
The western adaptation of the anime awesomeness that is Ghost in the Shell has officially entered production with its first still from the film. Scarlett Johansson is not exactly busting out of her Black Widow stereotype, by still proving to be a stone-cold killer in bringing this comic book series to life!
The first released image shows us Johansson’s Major Matoko Kusanagi, the protagonist of the film and a one-of-a-kind human-cyborg hybrid. Her role in the movie is to investigate the death of an arms dealer, one year after the end of WWIV. Continue reading

SNL Black Widow Romantic Comedy Sketch with Scarlett Johansson
Marvel fans have been waiting to see the hero Black Widow get her own solo film, but I don’t think this is what they were looking for. Thanks to Saturday Night Live, we have a glimpse of what that movie might look like… as a romantic comedy. They made a hilarious parody trailer for Black Widow: Age of Me, and it follows the international assassin as she takes on an internship at Fashion Weekly magazine and starts a complicated romantic relationship with the new man in her life, Ultron. Scarlett Johansson Starts Shooting GHOST IN THE SHELL in 2016
A few months ago it was announced that Scarlett Johansson would be taking on the lead role in the live-action adaptation of Ghost in the Shell. There was a mixed reaction from fans, as some people thought the casting was great, while others were upset they cast a white girl in the role of a Japanese character.
While speaking with Collider, Johansson said, “It’s happening. It will be shooting the beginning of next year, so I think we start production January or February and it’s me and Rupert [Sanders], and that’s all I know.” Continue reading

Fans Petition Dreamworks to Replace ScarJo for Live-Action Ghost in the Shell
The controversy over the casting of Scarlett Johansson in the upcoming live-action Ghost in the Shell film continues. It’s now the subject of an online petition aimed at Dreamworks, the producers of the film, which urges them to consider recasting the role with an Asian-American actor.
As of this writing, the petition has 35,827 signatures out of a goal of 36,000.
