Wonder Woman To Begin Filming In November

wonderwomangalgadot

Wonder Woman producer Deborah Snyder (Zack Snyder’s wife) has now confirmed that filming for Gal Gadot’s solo film, which will be directed by Monster director Patty Jenkins (replaced Michelle MacLaren), will begin filming in November.

“But we still wanted a female director and we found Patty Jenkins, who had the right vision and the same vision as we had for the character,” Snyder said at Geena Davis Institutes’ Gender In Media event. “And we’re really happy to be going into production in November and it’s been a really great process. We tried to hire as many female people on the crew as possible.”

Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman solo film, also starring Chris Pine (Star Trek), will hit theaters on June 23, 2017.

King Kong and Godzilla to Throw Down for Legendary and Warner Bros.

king-kong-godzilla

This is some “holy shit” news. Legendary Pictures is making a major move that foretells a massive monster showdown. Deadline reports that the studio is moving its in-development King Kong picture, Kong: Skull Island, from Universal to Warner Bros. — the studio that is home to the new Godzilla franchise — in order to get all their monstrous ducks in a row for a shared monster universe leading to a new King Kong vs Godzilla battle movie.

Legendary and Warner Bros. parted ways last year, when Legendary partnered up with Universal. Legendary developed the King Kong prequel picture Kong: Skull Island was over at Universal, but is teaming up with their former co-production studio with an eye toward getting all their mega monster players under one roof. The report states that Kong: Skull Island and Godzilla 2 will be followed by an epic show down picture between the giant ape and the radioactive lizard.

godzilla-imageKong: Skull Island is currently still casting. Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson and Corey Hawkins are set to star, and last we heard Samuel L. Jackson, Tom Wilkinson and John C. Reilly were all in talks to fill major roles. Little is known about Godzilla 2 a this time, but the film is set for a June 8, 2018 release date. It’s also worth noting that Legendary and Warner Bros. are the studios that brought us Pacific Rim, and while Legendary frontman Thomas Tull has gone on record saying the Godzilla would never wander into the PacRim universe (and honestly doesn’t belong there given the drastically different tones), it’s fun to speculate now that they’re moving into realm of epic monster battles.

Godzilla 2 will supposedly feature some monster battles of its own, introducing Mothra, Rodan and King Ghidorah, but Kong and ‘Zilla are the kings of monster cinema, so you just can’t match the excitement of seeing those two go head-to-head. This also raises the interesting question of how King Kong will be depicted in the new films. If he’s going to square off against the Godzilla introduced in Gareth Edwards‘ 2014 movie, he’s going to have to be significantly sized up from previous incarnations, and he’ll need some serious strength too. The new Godzilla is an absolutely giant, nuclear-powered, fire-breathing fuckton of fury, and traditionally Kong is just a really big ape. Regardless of semantics, I’m genuinely excited by this prospect. While there are plenty of shared universes floating around in todays cinematic landscape, there’s a huge (and delightful) precedent for monster throw down movies, and it’s thrilling to think what a Kong vs Godzilla fight will look like with today’s technology.

What say you? Excited by the prospect of an shared monster universe? Ready to see these two battle it out? Curious how the hell Kong would stand a chance? Sound off in the comments below.

X-MEN: APOCALYPSE – New Leaked Image of Apocalypse Looks a lot Better

A couple of images from Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Apocalypse have hit the internet. It looks like they come from a post-production editing bay being used to work on the movie, but they didn’t come from Singer. The were posted by an X-Men news Twitter feed.

One of the images offers us a much better look at Oscar Isaac as Apocalypse. He actually looks a lot more like the villain in this image, so that’s encouraging. Maybe those original photos we saw of the character weren’t the completed version of what we will see in the movie. Continue reading

Chris Evans Willing To Extend His Captain America Contract With Marvel

Captain America

Chris Evans’ relationship with Marvel Studios has been viewed as a tenuous one. He was reluctant to sign up for the role of Captain America at first, and he’s been more vocal than his co-stars about looking forward to having more time for other projects when his contract is up.

However, Evans tells Collider that, if Marvel wants him to stick around, all the studio has to do is ask:

“Listen, if Marvel wants me they got me. I’ve never had such a relationship where you have such—I mean look at my resume, I’m used to being on set being like, ‘Ah is this movie gonna be terrible?’ Marvel just can’t stop making great movies, they do it in their sleep. Its wonderful directors and producers and actors and scripts, and it’s like a playground as an actor.”

Short version: Captain America is a big upgrade from Human Torch.

As to Evans’ initial hesitation about joining the Marvel Universe, he seems pretty confident that he ended up making the right decision:

“It’s so mind-boggling that I was so tentative in the beginning to jump onboard. What an asshole I would be if I hadn’t done this. I mean can you imagine? Kicking myself—I’d never forgive myself!”

In another recent interview, Evans said that he was “terrified” thinking about being finished with Captain America. Assuming Marvel Studios doesn’t have other plans for the star-spangled suit and shield, maybe a contract extension is in Evans’ future.
