Chewbacca Will Return in ‘Star Wars: Han Solo’ Spinoff
In the original Star Wars trilogy, Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and his wookie co-pilot Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew) were often inseparable, at each other’s sides through the duration of George Lucas’ beloved movies, and the current blockbuster Star Wars: The Force Awakens. In just over two short years, fans will get to see a much younger version of this smuggler in Star Wars Anthology: Han Solo, which is set for release on May 25, 2018. While Disney still hasn’t cast Han Solo quite yet, studio CEO Robert A. J.J. Abrams plays the Chewbacca Defense card – fans don’t buy it
Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens was met with almost universal praise upon its release, but it did not escape spurring some controversy among viewers. One scene that left a lot of fans scratching their heads was when the Millennium Falcon returned to the Resistance Base at the end of the film. Those paying attention will notice that Chewbacca exits the Falcon and awkwardly walks past Leia while tending to Finn. Leia then has an emotional hug with Rey. Due to this scene closely following the death of Han Solo, many fans questioned why Leia and Chewie did not embrace one another after the loss of someone that was so close to both of them.

Tony Dyson, ‘Star Wars’ R2-D2 Creator, Passes Away at Age 68
The Star Wars universe has lost an important figure, one who helped bring the franchise’s most beloved droid to life. BBC is reporting that Tony Dyson, who built the original R2-D2 robots for the 1977 sci-fi classic Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, has passed away at the age of 68. ‘Star Wars: Episode VIII’ Has Started Filming
Its release date may have just been pushed back, but production on the next proper Star Wars installment has gotten underway only a few weeks after originally scheduled. During an earnings call with investors (via EW), Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed that filming on Star Wars: Episode VIII is now underway with writer/director Rian Johnson, presumably in London where Star Wars has its soundstage base of operations.
Cameras for Episode VIII actually began rolling last fall, as Johnson and Mark Hamill ventured to the Irish location of Skellig Michael, glimpsed at the very end of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. They no doubt wanted to grab the necessary footage to pick up after the events of The Force Awakens before the weather took a sharp turn into winter, so they took part in what are called “pre-shoots,” or bits of photography done before principal photography has actually begun. ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Almost Had a Yoda Cameo
Star Wars: The Force Awakens went through quite a few rewrites and changes over the course of three years. And we’ve heard a lot about certain classic characters that almost made the cut. Jedi master Yoda may have gotten closest of all, but alas, most of his scenes were cut from the movie, except for a few quick snippets of dialogue. Yoda would have reappeared as a Force Ghost, just as he did at the end of Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi. But that idea was nixed early on in the process. The Force Awakens editors Maryann Brandon and Mary Jo Markey revealed to ET that the diminutive green warrior was being considered for the sequel. Lucasfilm Will Make More STAR WARS Saga Movies After EPISODE IX
Lucasfilm has already announced that they will be releasing at least two Star Wars films a year for many years to come. Chairman and CEO or The Walt Disney Company, Bob Iger, recently confirmed plans for additional Star Wars films. He told Newsbeat:
“There are five Star Wars films – four more with Episode VII: The Force Awakens – that are in varying stages of development and production. There will be more after that, I don’t know how many, I don’t know how often.”
I think most of us expected this, but it’s nice to have confirmation. Hell, Disney didn’t spend $4 billion to end the saga at Episode IX! As of right now, the studio is developing Rian Johnson‘s Star Wars: Episode VIII, Colin Trevorrow‘s Star Wars: Episode IX, Gareth Edwards‘ Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and Chris Miller and Phil Lord‘s untitled Han Solo movie.
