Uh oh. Arnold Schwarzenegger has read the script for Shane Black‘s The Predator and he says he didn’t like it! There was a part for him in the film but after reading the script he decided to not be a part of it. While talking to Yahoo! about the film he said:
“They asked me, and I read it, and I didn’t like it, whatever they offered. So I’m not going to do that, no. Except if there’s a chance that they rewrite it, or make it a more significant role. But the way it is now, no, I won’t do that.”
The Hollywood Reporter brings word that the filmmaking team of Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg will write, direct, and produce a big-screen adaptation of Robert Kirkman’s Invincible for Universal Pictures.
“For nearly a decade I’ve had to endure the ‘what about Invincible?’ question as fans have watched The Walking Dead grow into the multi-media monstrosity it has become over the years,” The Walking Dead creator said. “The answer was always that we were waiting for the right team to partner with. That team has arrived! The esteemed misters Goldberg and Rogen have proven themselves to be top-notch directors with a keen collective eye for stunning visuals after slumming it by writing hit after juggernaut hit.”
Kirkman added, “Invincible’s surprising, edgy, shocking, and oftentimes blood-soaked story couldn’t be in more capable hands. With the team of Rogen, Goldberg and Universal, I’m very confident this will be another superhero movie, in a long line of superhero movies that continues to prove that it’s a viable, thrilling genre that will keep people coming to the cinema for years to come.”
“No matter how much damage it causes our bodies, minds, and our most intimate relationships with those we love, we will not rest until Invincible is as great a movie as it deserves to be,” Rogen and Goldberg said.
In the series, which has been running continuously since 2003 thanks to Kirkman and artists Ryan Ottley & Cory Walker, Mark Grayson was a normal high school senior with a normal part-time job and otherwise normal life, except his father Nolan is the superhero Omni-Man, the most powerful superhero on the planet. At the age of 17, Mark begins to display superpowers, which come from his father being a member of the Viltrumite race, who, according to Nolan, pioneer the galaxy on a mission of benevolence and enlightenment.
Rogen and Goldberg made their feature debut with 2013’s This is the End and went on to direct The Interview. No strangers to comic book adaptations either, the pair have executive produced AMC’s Preacher, based on the Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon series, and are also developing an adaptation of The Boys for Cinemax.
The Expendables franchise appears to have lost its leading man today as Deadline reports that Sylvester Stallone has exited the big screen action series. Although a fourth Expendables franchise entry was being planned for 2018, today’s report indicates that disagreements between Stallone and and Millennium Films‘ Avi Lerner have led to the star stepping away.
Robert Rodriguez (Sin City, Machete) is now the frontrunner to direct the upcoming Escape From New York remake, according to TrackingBoard. There is no finished deal yet, but Rodriguez is reportedly interested. John Carpenter, who was the director on the original 1981 film will serve as an executive producer, and The Picture Compay’s Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman will produce. The script for the Escape From New York remake is from Luthor creator Neil Cross. The story will follow, “Col. Robert “Snake” Plissken during an 11-hour mission to find the villainous heir to an agrochemical and biotech corporation as a major hurricane approaches.”
Although Lionsgate‘s new big screen take on Saban‘s Power Rangers won’t hit theaters until tomorrow, the studio is already teasing a familiar face for the tentative sequel. The below Green Ranger motion poster was just posted to the franchise’s official feed!
On the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series, the Green Ranger was the alternate identity of Tommy Oliver (played by Jason David Frank). Throughout the franchise’s run, Oliver has returned as a number of different rangers, including the White Ranger, the Red Ranger and, most recently, the Black Ranger. While Oliver doesn’t appear in the new film, Green Ranger fans would be wise to stay in their seats during the new movie’s end credits.
Saban’s Power Rangers follows five ordinary high school kids who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove – and the world – is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover that they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so they will have to overcome their real-life issues and band together as the Power Rangers before it is too late.
The Power Rangers cast includes Dacre Montgomery (A Few Less Men) as Jason the Red Ranger, RJ Cyler (Me and Earl and the Dying Girl) as Billy the Blue Ranger, Naomi Scott (The 33) as Kimberly the Pink Ranger, Becky G (Empire) as Trini the Yellow Ranger, Ludi Lin (Monster Hunt) as Zack the Black Ranger, Elizabeth Banks (Pitch Perfect, The Hunger Games) as the villainous Rita Repulsa, Bill Hader (Saturday Night Live) voicing Alpha 5 and Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad, Godzilla) as Zordon.
Directed by Dean Israelite (Project Almanac), Power Rangers is written by John Gatins (Kong: Skull Island, Real Steel), Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama (Dracula Untold), Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller (X-Men: First Class, Thor), and Max Landis (Chronicle). Producers are Power Rangers creator Haim Saban, Brian Casentini, Wyck Godfrey, and Marty Bowen (The Twilight Saga, The Fault in Our Stars, The Maze Runner franchise).

After director Paul Feig‘s Ghostbusters reboot crashed and burned, I wasn’t sure if Sony Pictures would still want to move forward with their plans of building up the franchise. According to original Ghostbusters director and producer Ivan Reitman, It doesn’t sound like they’ve given up on it yet. In fact, Reitman is actively developing these films for the studio.
When talking to io9 about a Ghostbusters VR experience they are developing, Reitman opened up about his thoughts on the reboot and where the franchise is headed:
“We certainly would’ve loved to have a larger hit. But considering the last film was almost 30 years ago, it really did extremely well. I think the film cost too much, frankly, and that’s the real issue. I personally had other points of view in terms of where the film should go and it was kind of a continuous conversation with Paul [Feig] about that. But Paul was the filmmaker on this one and he’s a very talented director. I wanted to give him enough room to do the film he thought it should be.”
As far as what they’ve got cooking up for future films in the franchise, Reitman immediately brought up the animated film that was announced back in 2015:
“We jumped into an animated film [after the last movie] and we are developing live-action films. I want to bring all these stories together as a universe that makes sense within itself. Part of my job right now is to do that.”
There’s no information on these new Ghostbusters films or when they will come out, but the producer hopes that the animated movie will be released in 2019-2020. He said:
“It depends on on how fast we can get it all together. It’s hard to make an animated film.”
I actually don’t mind the fact that Reitman and Sony are looking to develop more Ghostbusters movies. I just hope that next time around that actually make a great movie. Hell, they can even bring back all the female Ghostbusters if they want, I just hope they have a better sense of story and character development next time around. And of course, cut back on the silly slapstick comedy antics.
I believe that with the right talent involved there could be another great Ghostbusters film one day. The big question is, will they get the right talent on board when they decide to move forward with these projects.
Christopher McQuarrie has revealed, via Instagram, that Superman star Henry Cavill (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, upcoming Justice League) has joined the Mission: Impossible 6 cast! He will join Tom Cruise in the Paramount Pictures and Skydance sequel, which will also see the return of Rebecca Ferguson, Simon Pegg, and Jeremy Renner. It was recently revealed that The Crown and Everest star Vanessa Kirby will have a role as well.
Production on the upcoming Mission: Impossible 6 is set to begin April 10 in Paris with McQuarrie, who previously helmed Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, once again writing and directing. McQuarrie noted in a recent interview that even more familiar faces from the franchise will be returning for the upcoming film.
McQuarrie’s return to the franchise marks the first time a director has helmed more than one Mission: Impossible film. Brian De Palma directed the original adaptation, which was followed by sequels directed by John Woo, J.J, Abrams and Brad Bird.
Mission: Impossible 6 is set to debut in theaters July 27, 2018.
Though we have no filming or release date for the long-promised Spawn reboot, writer/director Todd McFarlane has an update for everyone. McFarlane appeared in a Twitch video (via MovieWeb) from Emerald City Comic-Con in Seattle, Washington this weekend and spoke about the film. The video comes from a panel he did at the convention with Stan Lee, moderated by Clare Kramer (Buffy the Vampire Slayer). The film has been in development since 2009, and in 2013, McFarlane had said it might be a year out from filming. At the time he said, “It?’s not going to be a giant budget [film] with a lot of special effects. It?s going to be more of a horror movie and a thriller movie, not a superhero one.” Continue reading
