Marvel is developing a new TV series based on the comic “Cloak and Dagger”. The series is coming to Freeform network, which was previously known as ABC Family. (Which means it is owned by a certain corporation that also owns Marvel Comics and happens to rhyme with “Gisney.”) This news got fans of the property incredibly excited, and they should be! This is a great comic with great characters and it has the potential to be a great series…if it’s done right.
This is not to be confused with the Atari 2600 game, “Cloak & Dagger,” or the 1984 film, Cloak & Dagger, starring Henry Thomas and Dabney Coleman. I understand if you are getting your 1980s nostalgia all mixed up.

About nine months ago, Marvel Studios president and mega-producer Kevin Feige, the architect of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, said that based on the agreement he made with Sony Pictures to share the rights to Spider-Man, characters from the MCU “could” appear in Spidey’s new movies for Sony. At the time, we all assumed that meant that it was a given those crossovers would eventually happen, but Feige’s use of the word “could” meant there was still a chance — however small — that the MCU characters would be restricted only to Marvel Studios films.
Now, in a new interview with EW, Feige confirmed everyone’s original assumption: those MCU characters will, in fact, appear in Spider-Man’s solo films. Continue reading
Filming for Doctor Strange has been underway in New York City, and photographers got a really good glimpse of Benedict Cumberbatch and Chiwetel Ejiofor as Doctor Strange and Baron Mordo!
The first images that we had of the pair was back in February, but this is our best look yet, and they look fantastic. Hopefully, we’ll be getting a trailer for this soon. (Captain America: Civil War, maybe?)

Sony Pictures has revived plans for a Venom movie, unrelated to the upcoming MCU Spider-Man.
In a surprising turn of events, The Hollywood Reporter today brings word that Sony Pictures is once again looking at bringing Venom, the Marvel Comics antihero, to the big screen. According to the trade, however, this doesn’t sound like it’s going to be a Venom movie connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in any way. The trade notes that the new film is unconnected to next year’s Spider-Man, which is set to star Tom Holland as your friendly neighborhood webslinger. Continue reading

Marvel’s final Defender, Iron Fist, has been found with Game of Thrones actor Finn Jones taking on the role for the Netflix series.
Marvel and Netflix haven’t commented yet, but the news comes by way of Entertainment Weekly. The choice of Jones will be a disappointment to fans who were pushing for Marvel to add some diversity to their heroes by choosing an Asian-American actor for Danny Rand/Iron Fist, but … at least he’s not named Chris? In the wake of Deadpool‘s massive box office success, it shouldn’t be too long until we hear about an X-Force movie officially getting the green light and moving into production at 20th Century Fox. Kick-Ass 2 director Jeff Wadlow wrote a script a couple of years ago, and was supposed to be directing the live-action feature, but that never ended up happening. But Ryan Reynolds has spoken about X-Force as “a priority,” and considering how much money Deadpool made this past weekend, I’d guess Fox will push that plan through fairly quickly. Continue reading
