Netflix Working on New ‘Voltron,’ Guillermo del Toro’s ‘Trollhunters’

Netflix’s plan to double its original content by 2016 proved undoubtedly ambitious, and it seems DreamWorks Animation may help it happen. The two have partnered up to add some major names to Netflix’s original programming slate, including a new Voltron series, as well as Guillermo del Toro’s Trollhunters project. According to Variety, the new agreement between Netflix and DreamWorks will add both a number of original series and the studio’s feature films, as well as DreamWorks content to markets outside China. Among the new series, Netflix is said to be developing a “re-imagining” of the Voltron property, as well as del Toro’s Trollhunters, which “will unleash a new, fantastical world wrapped around two best friends who make a startling discovery beneath their hometown.” Not only that, but the deal also expands the marketplace for existing series The Adventures of Puss in Boots, Dinotrux, and Dragons: Race to the Edge, while new series will be developed off DreamWorks movies, past, present and future.Guillermo del Toro has his ladle in enough enough stews to give Trollhunters a unique flavor, but what should we expect from a new Voltron series?

When Marvel and Netflix failed to announce, well, just about anything about Iron Fist, the fourth show in its lineup that began with Daredevil and leads up to the superhero team-up mini-series The Defenders, the internet began to wonder about the show’s prospects. Reports started showing up about how the company didn’t know what to do with the character, and then how they were reportedly going to turn Iron Fist into a movie and give Jon Bernthal’s Punisher his own spin-off show to take Iron Fist’s place on the roster. The first season of Marvel’s Jessica Jones dropped on Netflix late last week, and many fans have already torn through every episode. There has been a ton of positive responses to it so far, with many saying it’s an even better show than Daredevil. Mike Colter’s Luke Cage shows up in the series and plants the seeds for his own series, and I suspect Krysten Ritter’s Jessica will at least make an appearance in his solo show, but will we see a second season of Jessica Jones before the eventual team-up series The Defenders? Punisher pictures from Daredevil Season 2

Daredevil Season 2 is currently in production, and today we have some photos from the set featuring Jon Bernthal as The Punisher roughing up a petty thug, or maybe a cop, who is obviously no match for him.

As you can see, Frank Castle isn’t sporting his classic look yet with the skull logo on his chest, but there’s no doubt that he will. I’m sure he won’t be drawing that kind of attention to himself everywhere he goes. I am looking forward to seeing what his battle costume does look like, though!

One thing is for sure: Benthal looks freakin’ badass in the role. That is the best casting decision they could have made! I would love to eventually see this character make his way to the big screen in the MCU. That goes for Daredevil too! Continue reading →

Rumored Villain for Marvel’s LUKE CAGE Series

Marvel Will Release a New Netflix Show Every 6 Months

MARVEL'S DAREDEVILThough the next Marvel film, Captain America: Civil War, won’t premiere until May, more Marvel heroes are coming to your streaming queue—and soon. Netflix announced at the Television Critics Association summer meeting on Tuesday that it will be rolling out a new Marvel superhero series every six months.

Marvel and Netflix teamed up to bring five separate shows to the streaming service, focusing on a group of comic book heroes called The Defenders, a street-level Avengers team. The first in the series, Daredevil, premiered in April. Jessica Jones will be the next superhero to get a Netflix treatment before the end of 2015, followed by Iron Fist and Luke Cage, according to the Associated Press. After each has starred in their own series, all four will join forces for a Defenders show.

The announcement comes as anticipation for Jessica Jones, the first female superhero to headline her own Marvel project, grows. “I’ve been coming to Comic-Con for 12 years, and I think a lot of fans here have been eager to see more women onscreen for a long time,” Dawn Keiser, a 30-year-old Californian told TIME at San Diego Comic-Con in early July. “I was really happy to see the characters Karen and Claire become these heroes on Daredevil, but I really can’t wait for Jessica Jones to be the hero of her own show.”

Krysten Ritter, star of Don’t Trust the B in Apartment 23, will portray the first major female character with superpowers in a Marvel Studios project. Though Captain America character Peggy Carter stars in a 1940s-set Agent Carter on ABC, she has no powers—nor does Black Widow, the only female Avenger in the films. The first Marvel female superhero movie, Captain Marvel, won’t hit screens until 2018.

If the tone of Daredevil is any indication, Jessica Jones and the other Marvel Netflix shows will be much darker and bloodier than the one audiences know from films like Iron Man and The Avengers.
