One of the biggest stories is that Ben Affleck finally, officially, confirmed that he’s directing a standalone Batman movie. The consensus is that even though Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman bombed, Ben Affleck received high marks in his portrayal of the Dark Knight. Back when Warner Bros. revealed their full slate of DC Comics films, no release dates were given for stand alone Superman and Batman movies, both of which are being planned with the latter currently being written by Geoff Johns and Ben Affleck. The Man of Steel himself, Henry Cavill, has spoken about it previously, citing that allowing the rest of the DCEU to expand around him on film would allow for a better use of the character in the future.

Early this year, a rumor popped up that actress Amber Heard would be playing the role of Mera in Warner Bros. and DC’s cinematic universe. In the comics, Mera is a badass warrior who becomes Aquaman’s wife. The rumor indicated that Mera would first appear in Justice League — Part 1 before playing the female lead in the Aquaman solo film.
