Michael Keaton Explains Why He Walked Away From The BATMAN Franchise

In many ways, Michael Keaton can be credited for the massive resurgence of Batman, for some fans he stands as their definitive Batman. Back in 1989, Keaton donned the hero’s cowl under Tim Burton’s direction, but he did not give the hero a third installment of the “Bat-chise.” Now, the star is speaking out on why he left Batman behind him.

In a recent interview with The Guardian, Keaton explained why he didn’t return for a third Batman film, and Keaton said his decision boiled down to the movie not being any good.

“[The film] just wasn’t any good, man. I tried to be patient, but after a certain point, I was like, I can’t take this any more, this is going to be horrible.”

“There was some really horrible taste in the 90s, and I probably contributed to that, unfortunately. It was a time of nouveau riche excess – everyone was known for their jets and their stuff. And I thought, I’m in this job for the long run, I don’t want this. And the truth is, I’m not boasting, but I was correct. There are a whole load of people who ran things that are long gone.”

Since Keaton walked away a long list of big Hollywood names have played the caped crusader. Val Kilmer,  George Clooney [and his nipples] had brief stints as the hero before stars like Christian Bale and Ben Affleck swore to protect Gotham. Affleck will soon reprise the iconic role in DC’s upcoming Justice League this November.

Female-Led Greatest American Hero Reboot Pilot Ordered by ABC

The reboot of The Greatest American Hero with a female lead gets a put pilot commitment from ABC

A reboot of the early ’80s TV series The Greatest American Hero has gotten a put pilot commitment from ABC, according to Deadline. The half-hour, single-camera comedy will feature Meera, an Indian-American woman as the lead. The reboot comes to us from Fresh Off the Boat writer/producer Rachna Fruchbom and Nahnatchka Khan’s Fierce Baby. 20th Century Fox TV will co-produce with ABC Studios. Fruchbom will write the script. She’ll produce with Mandy Summers from Fierce Baby as well as the original show producer Steven J. Cannell’s daughter, television director Tawnia McKiernan.

Meera will reportedly be a 30-year-old Indian-American woman from Cleveland, “whose talents include tequila drinking and karaoke and not much else. Then some aliens entrust her with a super suit to protect the planet, and the world has never been in more unreliable hands.”

Based on the ABC-TV series which ran from 1980 to 1983, The Greatest American Hero follows a nebbishy teacher who becomes a reluctant superhero after extraterrestrials give him a special suit with powers he can barely understand or control when he loses its instruction manual. The original stars William Katt, Robert Culp and Connie Sellecca. The LEGO Movie and former Han Solo movie directors were attached to a reboot of The Greatest American Hero back in 2014.

What do you guys think of the idea of a reboot of The Greatest American Hero with a female lead? Did you watch the original series back in the early ’80s with William Katt? Is the theme song now stuck in your head? We want to hear from you! Leave us your thoughts in the comments below

Brenton Thwaites (The GiverPirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales) has been cast in the role of Dick Grayson a.k.a. Robin in the upcoming live-action DC series Titans. He’s a pretty talented young actor and I didn’t expect an actor like him to end up in the role as he’s been in a bunch of big movies. This will be his first TV gig.

Force Friday II is the massive Star Wars merchandising extravaganza that launches starting at midnight Sept. 1. It gives the die-hard fans the chance to get their hands on some figures before everyone else.

THR’s Heat Vision got an exclusive look at a line of Hasbro’s Force Friday figures, including the company’s prestigious Black Series six-inch figures.

The first figure standout looks to be the First Order Stormtrooper Executioner figure. This one will be exclusively available at Target and retail for $19.99. This trooper’s duty is to “dispense final justice to those who feign loyalty to the First Order.” Fans are already speculating that Finn (John Boyega) will have to face them for deserting the First Order in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
