Ridley Scott Reveals the Title of His Next Alien Film and Starts to Spill Too Much Information

During a recent interview with Fandango, Alien: Covenant director Ridley Scott started letting all kinds of details fly about his plans for the Alien franchise. He started spilling so many details that the star of Covenant, Katherine Waterston, kept trying to cut him off to prevent him from saying anything more!

He reveals the title of the next Alien film he has planned; how there will be another film that will lead directly into his original Alien film; and says that if the movies do well, there will be five new Alien films total. Here’s how that conversation goes down:

“There will be another one before we kind of literally and logically, clockwise, back into the rear back head of [the original] Alien,” he said.

We asked Scott what the timeline looked like — would it be Prometheus, Covenant and then this next movie before we arrive at the events of the original Alien. That’s when the answer became a bit foggy as it appears he slips in the title for another movie we haven’t seen yet and positions it between Prometheus and Covenant.

“It will go Prometheus, Awakening, Covenant.. fairly integral where this colonization ship is on the way….”

Waterston cut in again to stop Scott from spoiling any more information. “You’re giving away too much!” she screamed. “But yes, there will be more after this. I think that was the question.” To which Scott replied, “If this is successful, and then the next one, and then there will definitely be three more.”

Damn! Scott was ready to reveal his whole plan for the franchise! Unfortunately, Waterston wouldn’t let him. At least we got the information that we did. Alien: Awakening seems like a solid title, and I’m really curious to see how his next film leads up to the events in Alien.

It’s awesome to see Scott excited about the Alien franchise again. Unfortunately, that means we’ll probably never get to see Neill Blomkamp‘s Aliens sequel. I just wish the studio would have let both projects roll forward. We are getting at least two Star Wars and Marvel films a year, why can’t Fox release two Alien films in a year?

Anyway, I’m excited for Alien: Covenant! I hope that it’s great and that Scott gets to make all the Alien films that he wants!

Future STAR WARS Films Won’t Rely on the Legacy Characters From the Original Trilogy

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was the first film in the franchise that didn’t rely heavily on the legacy characters from the original trilogy. Yeah, Darth Vader and Princess Leia both has small parts to play, but the story focused on completely new characters.

This is what the future of Star Wars films looks like… movies that will focus on new and different characters that won’t rely on the characters from the original trilogy. Rogue One co-writer Gary Whitta recently talked about what Lucasfilm’s future movie plans are with ComingSoon saying:

“I think you’ve already seen us get 90% of the way there with Rogue One. Yes you see Leia, yes you see the Death Star and Vader, because those are elements of that story and they belong there, you can’t tell that story without those characters. But for the most part, 90% of that story is completely new characters. Completely new planets and places you’ve never seen before. …. The next spin-off is ‘Han Solo,’ that’s another familiar character, but I think increasingly you’re going to see… One of the things we really want to do at Lucasfilm is create a universe and not keep relying on old legacy characters. We’ve got Rey and Finn and Kylo Ren, they’ve already introduced a new generation of characters. Whatever kind of Star Wars films they’re making 10 or 20 years from now, I don’t think they’re going to be relying on the same legacy story elements as we have in the past.

After seeing how great Rogue One was, I’m actually excited about the aspect of seeing new original Star Wars films that focus on new characters. With the standalone Han Solo film, possible Boba Fett film, and the rest of the saga films, I think it’s going to be awhile before we see Lucasfilm fully embrace this idea. I think a lot of their upcoming Star Wars Story films will focus on legacy characters. Whitta went on to say:

“I’m speaking purely as a fan. I obviously have no idea what their plans are for the franchise. I did my small piece of it, but it makes sense to me that you don’t want to keep telling the same story over and over again. You want to tell new stories.”

It’ll be interesting to see what Lucasfilm will be doing with their Star Wars films three to five years from now after Star Wars: Episode IX is done. That film will most likely bring an end to the Skywalker saga, and from there, Lucasfilm can start to really explore new characters in the Star Wars universe.

THE MATRIX Reboot Writer Says “No One Could or Should Reboot THE MATRIX”

A couple days ago the crazy, unexpected news hit that Warner Bros. was looking to reboot The Matrix. It never even crossed my mind at the time that anyone would ever attempt to reboot The Matrix, and it sounds like maybe that’s not the plan for the franchise after all.

In the initial announcement, we learned that The Incredible Hulk screenwriter Zak Penn would write a story treatment for the film. After he saw The Matrix fans respond negatively to the news of the reboot, he took to Twitter to set the record straight:

“All I can say at this point is no one could or should REBOOT the Matrix. People who know Animatrix and the comics understand. Can’t comment yet except to say that the words ‘reboot’ and ‘remake’ were from an article. Let’s stop responding to inaccurate news. If I were going to recast Keanu Reeves, I would cast Keanu Reeves.”

In his comment, he brings up the Animatrix anime anthology film. In case you don’t know, that’s a compilation of nine animated short films that detail the backstory of the Matrix universe, including the original war between man and machines that led to the creation of the Matrix. He also brings up the comics.

This could mean several different things. It could mean that the new Matrix film will be a prequel to The Matrix; or it could be a spinoff; a continuation of the story; or a completely different story with different characters set in the same universe.

One thing this statement makes clear is that the events that took place in the original Matrix trilogy will be a part of the mythology of whatever Warner Bros. and their creative team are planning. The one thing that I’m hoping for is that Reeves will make a comeback as Neo. I’d be cool with that.

2017 NYCC will not sell 3-Day or 4-Day passes

Eromanga Sensei Teaser Visual and Trailer Released!

Oreimo’s Fushimi Tsukasa and Kanzaki Hiro are back with another TV anime adaptation, thanks to A-1 Pictures! Eromanga Sensei will air from Apr. 8 and you can check out their latest promotional image below.

As displayed in the PV, the show’s opening theme will be “Hitorigoto” by ClariS while TrySail will provide the ending with “adrenaline!!”.

KANA-BOON To Sing Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Opening Theme

KANA-BOON’s “Baton Road” has been selected as the opening theme for Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, which airs from April 2017.

Boruto: Naruto Next Generations follows the adventures of Naruto’s son Boruto and builds on the success of the 2015 theatrical feature, Boruto: Naruto The Movie, for which KANA-BOON also provided the main theme song.

KANA-BOON are big fans of the Naruto franchise and have already collaborated with the series three times including the Naruto Shippuden opening theme “Silhouette”, the Boruto: Naruto The Movie theme “Diver”, and the PS4 game Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 opening theme “Spiral”.

You’ll be able to hear “Baton Road” and see the accompanying animation when the show airs for the first time on April 5!

A Second Season of Hozuki no Reitetsu Is Finally Coming!

The second season of Hozuki no Reitetsu ( Hozuki’s Coolheadedness ) was officially announced on Mar. 11 at the “Hell’s Encyclopedia in Roppongi” event! The anime continuation of Eguchi Natsumi’s work will resume in Oct. 2017.

Countless fans have been waiting patiently for this exact announcement since the first season came to an end in 2014 – but that’s no surprise considering the series’ popularity. Not only is Hozuki no Reitetsu serialized in Morning, but it’s also sold over 10 million copies since its first release in 2011!

Regarding the announcement, creator Eguchi commented, “I’m really pleased! From those on the staff to all of my readers, I truly thank everyone who’s made this possible. Personally, I hope everyone is moved and enjoys it as much as I do!” Hozuki’s voice actor Yasumoto Hiroki also commented, “Getting to work on this series will be a pleasure, but I’m also thrilled to experience the world of Hozuki no Reitetsu and everything that comes with it. Plus, I get to work alongside talented peers – it’s a wonderful feeling.”

To commemorate the upcoming arrival of this long-awaited season, a mini exhibition will be held at Tokyo’s BOOKMARK Asakusabachi from Apr. 22 to May. 7 featuring Hozuki no Reitetsu art. If you’ve been waiting forever for this news, you might want to treat yourself by visiting and give yourself a pat on the back for having your patience finally pay off!
