The GREMLINS Remake “Ran Out Of Steam”…For Now

Hollywood has been threatening to remake Gremlins for years, and it came pretty close to happening last year when Warner Bros. hired Dark Shadows writer Seth Grahame-Smith to pen the script. The new movie “was a completely different cast of characters, but acknowledging the events of the first two movies,” but luckily it looks like we won’t have to worry about that happening any time soon. EW spoke to the writer, and he offered an update on the project:

“I think we just ran out of steam,” Grahame-Smith says. “It’s one of those things where everybody got busy doing other things. It’s something I would love to come back to, but right now Steven [Spielberg]’s making two movies back to back and Chris Columbus is busy. We’re all taking a five-minute break on that.”

So it sounds like the concept is dead…for now. I can’t decide if that “five-minute break” comment is a promise or a threat – I guess it depends on if you’re actually looking forward to seeing a Gremlins movie in the modern era. I’m guessing you’ll see a lot of sites talking about how the Gremlins remake isn’t going to happen, but until these guys officially say that they’re giving up on the idea altogether, the threat is still out there. This announcement is cause for a minor celebration, but prepare to be disappointed if things rev back up in a year or two.

‘X-Files’ in talks with fox for reboot

Fox’s new agenda is looking a lot like their old one. Confirming some prior reports, the network’s leadership says they are seriously chasing a reboot of The X-Files and are possibly interested in bringing back Prison Break too (along with yet another edition of 24 as well — but that’s another story).

On The X-Files front, Fox chairman and CEOs Dana Walden and Gary Newman say they have been in talks with series creator Chris Carter about reviving the supernatural procedural, which was a major hit for the network from 1993 to 2002. The executives also revealed they hope to have original series stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson reprise their roles on the show.

One thing all three titles have in common is they’re properties of 20th Century Fox Television, which Walden and Newman ran prior to adding the Fox broadcast network to their plate last year.

“It’s true that we’ve had some conversations on X-Files,” Newman said. “We’re hopeful of being able to bring that back at some point.”

Walden added: “Gary and I both worked [at 20th Century Fox Television] through the entire run of The X Files. It was a great experience. We’ve maintained good relationships with Chris, David and Gillian. We’re very hopeful, but it’s hard. The actors are very busy. They have a lot going on. Chris has a lot on his plate, so it’s just trying to carve out the time.”

Amazon recently declined to make Carter’s new post-apocalyptic series project The After, so the writer-producer may be more open to revisiting his past. More problematic is that Duchovny has an upcoming NBC event series, Aquarius, while Anderson has a recurring role on NBC’s Hannibal. Both actors would presumably have to get contractually clear of their commitments to Fox’s rival before signing onto an X-Files relaunch.

Surprise Setting for KONG: SKULL ISLAND Revealed

Some new intel on Legendary Pictures’ Kong: Skull Island thanks to actor J.K. Simmons, who was recently cast in the film. During an interview with MTV, the actor reveals some interesting and surprising details on where part of the film will take place, and the era that the story is set in.

“When it first came to my attention, ‘There’s interest in you for a new ‘King Kong,’ I thought, ‘Okay… Why?’ But then I met with Jordan Vogt-Roberts, who’s going to be directing it and John Gatins, who’s writing and Tom [Hiddleston]. Jordan was just so passionate and so smart. It’s such an interesting, new take on it. It’s set in Detroit in 1971, which is where I grew up. We’re going to shoot it in Detroit during baseball season, so I’ll be able to go to Tigers games! There’s a lot to like about this movie!”

Of course, a major part of the film will also be set on Skull Island, which is located off the coast of Sumatra. But isn’t that cool? Detroit 1971…that will make for such a great setting! We’ve got a hell of a long way to go before we see anything for this movie, but so far things are coming together nicely. Especially with the possibility of Michael Keaton joining the production.

KONG: SKULL ISLAND will fully immerse audiences in the mysterious and dangerous home of the king of the apes as a team of explorers ventures deep inside the treacherous, primordial island. Legendary’s story honors the foundations of existing King Kong lore, but places it in an entirely new, distinct timeline.

The film is set for release on March 10th, 2017. As a huge fan of Kong, lets see how this all comes together! Are you excited for this ?

‘Beetlejuice’ 2, ‘Something Wicked,’ ‘Gremlins,’ vampires galore: Seth Grahame-Smith’s 2015 to-do list

Grahame-Smith is producing this two-film adaptation of King’s epic 1986 novel about a shapeshifting evil that feeds off the fear of children—most often in the form of a bloodthirsty clown known as Pennywise. Cary Fukunaga (True Detective) is directing and co-writing the first installment, which will focus solely on a group of kids who join forces to fight back against the malevolent force. A second film would pick up with the same characters as adults, returning home to discover It has resurrected.

The novel was previously adapted into an ABC miniseries in 1990, starring Tim Curry as the deranged, sharp-fanged clown (pictured above, floating).

“I think that if anything, [the new film] will bring back some of the viciousness of the book that they couldn’t do with the miniseries because it was for broadcast,” Grahame-Smith says. “I think it’s going to be very scary, but I also feel like you’ve got Cary who is going to direct these kids—and he’s incredible at casting, incredible at shooting. He’s incredible with tone and atmosphere. One of the things I wanted to do is be a part of one of the really good King adaptations. As we know, there is an echelon of King adaptations that are classics. There are some that are okay. There are some that we’d rather forget.”

Status: “We’re going to get a draft, what is supposed to be the shooting [script], any day now from Cary and his writing partner,” Grahame-Smith says. “We’re doing a deal for them to write the second movie. Our hope is to prep sometime in the next few months and shoot in the summer. That one is as much on the runway as we can possibly be. I know New Line is ready to go.”

THE THINGS THEY LEFT BEHIND
Grahame-Smith is writing another adaptation of a King story, a TV series based on this short story about a World Trade Center worker who evades the 9/11 terror attacks only to find relics of his friends and colleagues mysteriously appearing in his home. The TV drama, which Grahame-Smith will co-produce with Greg Berlanti (Arrow, The Flash), drops the 9/11 element and instead has the hero discovering random objects from people who died before their time, leaving unfinished business for him to help resolve.

Status: “I thought this could be a really cool X-Files, Stephen King-centric procedural show,” Grahame-Smith says. “We sold it to CBS. I just finished the first draft of the script and I’m doing notes now. Hopefully we get to make the pilot in the spring. Then, hopefully we get ordered to series and get to be on CBS next fall.”

No Patrick Stewart or Ian McKellen for X-Men: Apocalypse

It’s not exactly a surprise given what we know so far about Bryan Singer’s upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse, but Patrick Stewart confirmed today that neither he nor Ian McKellen would be reprising their respective roles as Charles Xavier or Erik Lehnsherr in the forthcoming mutant ensemble.

“I was learning quite a lot more about it last night,” Stewart tells Larry King (via Yahoo! Movies), hinting that he’s still maintaining a close connection to the franchise. “It is going to be looking very much at the earlier lives of all our characters. And so I don’t think we’ll be making an appearance.”

Confirmed to star James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Oscar Isaac and Nicholas Hoult (with more names expected to be confirmed shortly), X-Men: Apocalypse is scripted by Simon Kinberg, Mike Dougherty and Dan Harris. Said to be the conclusion of a trilogy started with X-Men: First Class and continued with X-Men: Days of Future Past, cameras will start rolling on the next adventure in Montreal beginning April, 2015 for a May 27, 2016 release.

It was also recently reported that the new film is looking to cast younger versions of Jean Grey (Phoenix), Scott Summers (Cyclops) and Ororo Monroe (Storm).

Inhumans – The MCU Expands into the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver are InhumansAgents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has seen the airing of its mid-season finale – and it went out with a bang! There were Easter-Eggs all over the place, but the most important one was that the character Skye from the series is indeed the character Daisy Johnson (or Quake) from the comic books. And this, in turn, revealed something even more extraordinary – that the Inhumans have already appeared, way before they will be seen on the silver screen (in 2018).A secret society, the Inhumans are a result of genetic experiments conducted by the Kree on the first humans. The aliens made those experiments since they were not evolving any longer and since they saw the potential the humans represented.

Robert Kirkman on The Walking Dead Companion Series

Robert Kirkman Calls The Walking Dead Companion Series ‘Startlingly Different’

Cameras are getting ready to roll on AMC’s upcoming companion series to “The Walking Dead” and EW caught up with series creator Robert Kirkman, who revealed, without too many details, that the series will be quite different from the regular series.

“I will say that this is going to be a show about family,” Kirkman said. “But it’s going to be a show about a different type of family that we haven’t explored in The Walking Dead thus far. So what we’re trying to do with The Walking Dead spinoff is keep the story as familiar as possible for people that love The Walking Dead, so you’ll get the kind of things that you expect from a Walking Dead story. But, at the same time, we’ll want to tell these stories in a completely different way with completely different people in a completely different setting that’s going to make for a fundamentally different show. I think the look and feel of The Walking Dead spinoff is going to be startlingly different.”

Kirkman went on to address the Los Angeles setting, which will provide an interesting contrast to the Atlanta location of the primary series.

“It’s Los Angeles. It’s a corner of the world that we have never explored in the comic book series. So, theoretically, something like this could be happening in Los Angeles in the comic book series, but we don’t show you this area of the country in the comic book series. So it fits within that world, but it is all new characters, all new events and all kinds of crazy stuff.”

Co-created by Kirkman and Dave Erickson, the series will take place in the same zombie apocalypse depicted in “The Walking Dead” albeit in a different location and potentially at a different point in time. Erickson will serve as the showrunner for the new series, which will be executive produced by Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd and David Alpert. Adam Davidson will direct the pilot episode which sees Cliff Curtis will lead the companion series alongside Kim Dickens. They’re joined by Frank Dillane and Alycia Debnam-Carey.

FOX is Reportedly Not Happy with Josh Trank’s FANTASTIC FOUR Reboot

 Uh, oh! It sounds like 20th Century Fox isn’t very happy with what Josh Trank has done with his Fantastic Four reboot. The news comes from Bleeding Cool, who says that some people within the studio are calling the film “Chronicle 2 rather than Fantastic 4,? and it’s not what the studio wanted to see. On top of that, one of the senior executives at the studio told the site that the movie was “a mess.”

Well, that’s not good. Of course, many of you seemed to figure that this is where Fantastic Four was headed, so I’m sure some of you aren’t surprised by this news.. X-Men: First Class director Matthew Vaughn recently said that he saw the movie, and that it was simply “good.” It didn’t seem like he was enthusiastic about it though.

The report goes on to say that the studio is demanding reshoots, and that they are freeing up millions of dollars to make that happen. They also say that the sets are already being rebuilt in Louisiana.

If this is all to be believed, then Fantastic Four could end up being a terrible film. If the movie turns out to be as bad as it sounds, the franchise might die altogether. That is, until Marvel Studios gets their hands back on the property. I think they are the only studio that fans will put their trust in at this point with these characters.

This didnt sound good from the start of it!  from the actors to the extreme secerts and  no news about the  movie!  i am not surprised  but me  being a marvel  fan!  i will see it anyway!  lol  what are your thoughts after reading this article?
