MEN IN BLACK Being Rebooted as a New Trilogy
Men in Black is a trilogy that probably should have just ended after the original movie. The third film was better than the second one, but still — it didn’t seem like the filmmakers really had much to say after the first movie, which was more of a star vehicle for Will Smith and a showcase for what, at the time, were pretty impressive special effects.
In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, MIB producers Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald confirmed that not only is there a reboot in the works, but there are bigger plans for the franchise to continue on:
You produced Men in Black. Has there been talk of reviving that franchise with the new Sony regime?
PARKES: We’re in the middle of it. It’s very active.
Is Will Smith going to be part of it?
PARKES: Most likely no.
MACDONALD: It will be reinvented as a trilogy.
THR failed to ask them whether this newly reinvented trilogy would be the potential crossover with the 21 Jump Street movies, but I’m sure Sony wouldn’t think twice about linking both of those franchises together if it meant they could make money on three more films. Alone, Men in Black and Jump Street sequels probably wouldn’t do that well (the current narratives of both have been played out), but combined, curiosity might be enough to get people to come see what the heck a crossover between them would look like. If development is indeed “very active,” we should probably be hearing something about this in an official capacity from Sony soon.
Remakes of ACE VENTURA, THE EXORCIST, and MAJOR LEAGUE are on the way
Morgan Creek Productions has put its library of 78 films up for sale, and if the deal goes through with a potential buyer, the production company is set to retain the remake rights to Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, Major League, The Exorcist, Young Guns, and Flying Tigers.
I’m sure you can see where this is heading. Morgan Creek’s CEO told Deadline that they’re selling the rights to the library in order to make money to fund more movies, but it seems like at least some of those movies will be remakes of Ace Ventura, The Exorcist, and Major League; of the five available options, those are the three currently in development there.

John Wick 2 Filming Begins This Fall!
Thunder Road confirmed as part of the announcement of their upcoming Outlaws Inc. film, that John Wick 2 filming will begin this fall. A sequel to 2014’s critically-acclaimed revenge thriller, John Wick 2 will feature Keanu Reeves reprising the title role along with directors David Leitch and Chad Stahelski and screenwriter Derek Kolstad. John Wick 2 will be released through Lionsgate’s Summit Entertainment and will be produced by Thunder Road’s Basil Iwanyk, who also produced the first film.
“With such tremendous fan and critical support for ‘John Wick,’ we knew that there was still so much more of this story to tell,” Lionsgate’s President of Acquisitions and Co-Productions said earlier this year. “We are thrilled that Keanu, David and Chad have re-teamed with us and promise to bring audiences even more excitement the second time around.” Continue reading

Vincent Cassel To Play The Villain in BOURNE 5
Matt Damon recently offered up some details about the upcoming Bourne 5, in which he’ll return to reprise his role as Jason Bourne/David Webb under the direction of Paul Greengrass. We still don’t know a ton about what the movie will be about, but since filming is set to begin extremely soon, it was inevitable that we’d start to hear more about who will be joining Damon in the cast.We already know that Ex Machina star Alicia Vikander is playing one of the female leads, Julia Stiles is returning as Nicky Parsons, and Tommy Lee Jones has joined up too, reportedly as a high level CIA officer. Viggo Mortensen was at one point rumored to be the film’s villain, but now Variety is reporting that Vincent Cassel has signed on in the role of an assassin trying to track and kill Bourne.
Cassel is the latest in a line of baddies that includes Clive Owen, Karl Urban, and Edgar Ramirez in the original trilogy, and he has a perfect mixture of European style and physicality that should make him a great addition to this franchise.
Bourne 5 hits theaters on July 29th, 2016.

Vin Diesel Says xXx 3 Starts Filming This December
A year after The Fast and The Furious made him a star, Vin Diesel tried to kickstart another franchise with xXx, a film in which he played a former stuntman/extreme sports nut contracted as a secret agent by the NSA. It was as ridiculous as you’d imagine — I recall there being a lot of grinding down handrails — and Diesel went off to make The Pacifier while Ice Cube came in for xXx 2: State of the Union.
But Diesel, ever the franchise man, wants to return to his roots and after announcing he would be back for another sequel, it appears production is close to getting underway. In an Instagram post, Diesel says the movie — once called xXx: The Return of Xander Cage, though we’re not sure if that title remains or not — starts filming this December.
League Of Extraordinary Gentleman Reboot Will Be Female-Centric
Looks like the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is getting a makeover.
