John Lasseter Taking Leave of Absence From Pixar Amid “Missteps”

“It’s never easy to face your missteps, but it’s the only way to learn from them,” the executive stated.

Disney Animation head John Lasseter is taking a leave of absence from Pixar after acknowledging “painful” conversations and unspecified “missteps,” he wrote Tuesday in a memo to staff, obtained by The Hollywood Reporter.

Lasseter’s statement arrived as THR was preparing a story detailing alleged misconduct by the executive at Disney/Pixar.

There was almost a Batmobile Cameo in CARS 3

Cameos are nothing new in Pixar’s Cars Universe, but they almost got a little bit batty in the latest installment, Cars 3.

In a recent interview with Screen Junkies, director Brian Fee said that in an early draft of the film, Lightning McQueen almost ended up going to a Hollywood party that would have been full of movie stars, including two different generations of Batmobiles. That scene didn’t make the cut but it came pretty close. Fee said:

“At one point, part of the story took place in LA and we had a scene where McQueen went to a Hollywood hills party and it was full of actors, and we had the old Batmobile and the new Batmobile talking to each other at a party.”

Fee doesn’t explain exactly how much the Batmobiles would have been in the movie, but it would have been interesting to hear what they were talking about with each other. Would they merely be movie cars that are sharing movie production stories or would they actually be the property of Batman, or two different Batmen?

What do you guys think, would you have enjoyed seeing the iconic Batmobile as a cartoony cars character or did we all dodge a bullet?

Disney Infinity Series Cancelled, Disney Pulls Out of Game Publishing

Disney Infinity Series Cancelled, Disney Pulls Out of Game Publishing

The Walt Disney Company announced today during their second quarterly earnings for 2016 that the fan-favorite Disney Infinity game series has been cancelled and the company has “discontinued their self-published console games business.” They confirmed that going forward their strategy will be to focus their video game content on licensing the games to other developers and publishers.

Despite the staggering numbers run up by blockbuster movies such as Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Captain America: Civil War, Disney’s second-quarter revenues and profits came in below analysts’ expectations for the first time since March 2011. As a result, overall profit and revenue, while each increasing, missed Wall Street’s expectations, a rarity for Disney. Shares of Disney fell about 6 percent in after-hours trading, to about $100.85. Continue reading

Pixar’s FINDING DORY Has a Trailer and Poster

Disney has released the first trailer and poster for Pixar’s upcoming film Finding Dory, which as most of you already know is a sequel to Finding Nemo. The sequel will be released 13 years after Finding Nemo, but the story itself picks up only six months after the events from the first film when Dory suddenly starts to remember certain things about her life. In the trailer, these memories first start to manifest themselves in her sleep, and she starts sleep swimming.

The story follows Dory as she embarks on a journey to find her mom and dad. This leads her to an ocean sanctuary facility where wounded animals are treated before they are re-released into the wild. It’s here that she meets lots of new characters like an octopus, who is missing a leg, and a beluga whale named Bailey, who thinks he has suffered a head injury because of the big bump on his head that is supposed to be there.
