Marvel Studios Phase 3 Update

Now that Phase 2 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has officially reached its conclusion with the release of Marvel’s Ant-Man, we have new details on what to expect in Phase 3!

Ant-Man had a fine opening weekend, but I don’t think it did the type of box office numbers the people at Marvel Studios were likely hoping for. That means that an immediate sequel may be less likely than it would have been otherwise, which could be disappointing for fans who were hoping to quickly see Evangeline Lilly’s Hope Van Dyne character don the Wasp suit and take action alongside Paul Rudd’s title hero. Our new hero, Scott Lang, will don the Ant-Man suit with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength. The Ant-Man Prequel Comic Reveals Peggy Carter Connection

We learned last fall that Hayley Atwell is set to make an appearance in Marvel Studio’s upcoming “Phase Two” capper, Ant-Man. Rumors at the time suggested that the Peyton Reed film will feature a flashback in which Hank Pym meets with the founding members of S.H.I.E.L.D. Today, Newsarama has posted several pages from Marvel’s official comic book tie-in prequel to the film, revealing a surprising working relationship between Pym and an older Peggy Carter. As you can see from the page below, Peggy appears to be training with Pym using a very similar method to the one she employed to test Steve Roger’s vibranium shield in Captain America: The First Avenger. Does this mean that Michael Douglas’ Pym will have extensive ties to S.H.I.E.L.D.? Only time will tell, but it’s certainly looking likely. Continue reading →
