6 Big Questions Raised in STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS, With Theories That May Answer Them

I’ve seen Star Wars: The Force Awakens three times already, and it won’t be the last time I see it in theaters. It’s such an awesomely entertaining movie, but by the end of it, we were left with just as many questions as were answered.

After talking to friends about the film, I came up with a list of six of the biggest questions I had for the film. I tried to find information on them, and then offered up my own theories on what it means, or what we could see in future films.

Obi-Wan and Yoda are secretly in Star Wars: The Force Awakens

There were more old friends in Star Wars: The Force Awakens than we may have realized.

Those who saw the film this weekend (and those who haven’t may want to stop here) know that midway through the movie Daisy Ridley’s lonely scavenger Rey has a vision, a dream-like flashback sequence after she discovers Luke Skywalker’s long-lost lightsaber in the basement of Maz Kanata’s castle.

As Rey touches it, she is hit with an impressionistic wave of images and sounds that depict a cloaked Luke Skywalker in mourning, reaching out for support (or to comfort) R2-D2 beside a fire. She sees bodies scattered in a rainstorm at the feet of Kylo Ren and the masked and menacing Knights of Ren. She sees herself as a young girl, being left in the coarse hands of junk dealer Unkar Plutt on the desert world of Jakku. Continue reading

Star Wars Sets New Box Office Record, Might Become Highest Grossing Film Ever

Second Nexus

As expected, Star Wars: The Force Awakens blasted its way past its box office competition at hyperspeed, holding the top spot with an opening weekend gross of $247,966,675.

The film vaporized a multitude of records set by previous box office juggernauts, including Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, Jurassic World, and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.

Though it appears Jurassic World will hold on to its “Largest Saturday” title, The Force Awakenscrushed records for ticket sales in December on a single day and December opening weekend sales. The Force Awakens also easily snatched the title of fastest film to earn $100 million — what took Jurassic World two days, Star Wars did in just one.

The reason The Force Awakens did not surpass Jurassic World for the largest opening weekend worldwide is because the former did not open in China.

It is likely that the latest Star Wars installment will unseat Avatar as the largest all-time grossing film. Continue reading

Unused Storylines For THE FORCE AWAKENS

Star Wars: The Force Awakens went through various stages of story development. There are a lot of different ways the story could have gone. Thanks to screenwriter Michael Arndt, we now have some information on a different direction the film could have gone. The writer was working on the film long before J.J. Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan took over.

During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Arndt revealed his original vision for the story and why it didn’t work. Here’s what he had to say (spoilers ahead): Continue reading
