Sam Raimi Wants Another Shot At The Marvel Universe

spider-man 3

Spider-Man 3 is not the worst superhero movie, or really even the worst Spider-Man movie. It’s even got its endearing touches; Parker the dork trying desperately to look evil, but instead coming up with a dumb emo haircut remains one of the funniest gags in the entire series. But it’s just too much plot packed into too little time, and too much melodrama. And Sam Raimi, to his credit, owns up to his part, but he’d love a chance to make it right.

I messed up on the third one. I think they’re so complete now, Marvel. They probably don’t need me anymore. But if they needed me? I’d love to.

Really, what we need here is Raimi on a Marvel Netflix series. No, really; it doesn’t come up as often as it should, but Raimi’s a prolific TV producer with his friend Rob Tapert, and in fact Daredevil‘s showrunner, Steven S. DeKnight, worked with Tapert and Raimi on the last two seasons of Spartacus. Raimi would be perfect for, say, the Moon Knight series fans are beginning to beg Marvel for, or to finally deliver an adaptation of Nextwave. Really, who wouldn’t want to see Sam Raimi siccing broccoli men on a bunch of second-rate superheroes?

THE MIGHTY THOR #1 – Preview

The_Mighty_Thor_1_Coipel_Variant.jpg
There are enemies lining up to take a shot at the new God of Thunder, and while they might think themselves a force to be reckoned with, Jane Foster isn’t really concerned with them. At the heart of this newest Thor is the battle going on in her own body as she struggles with the cancer attempting to take her mortal form. A premise like that is certainly compelling, and the team of Jason Aaron, Russell Dauterman, and Matt Wilson hope you feel the same way and stick around for the ride. I’ll at least be giving the book a try. Continue reading

Thanks to actor Daniel Brühl, though, we now have a bit of new information regarding the villain that he’ll be playing in the story. Continue reading

Marvel Announces SPIDER WOMEN #1

Marvel’s three Spider-Women are getting their own crossover, appropriately titled Spider-Women. Starting in issue #1, the trio of Silk, Spider-Gwen, and Spider-Woman will be forced to work together to survive and get back to their own worlds, but according to Jason Latour (writer of Spider-Gwen), that isn’t going to be so easy at first.

“I think what’s intriguing about the three of them is that they’re really just getting to know one another. But as far as the initial dynamic—Jessica is definitely the big sister who’s a little frustrated by how much these girls don’t know about being superheroes.”

We know Thor: Ragnarok would be a dark film. After all, the comic book story arc features an apocalyptic battle that the Realm of Asgard has experienced over and over and over again. Ragnarok is a cycle of death and rebirth.

The sequel is being written by Christopher Yost and Craig Kyle, and according to Birth.Movies.Death., the script is the darkest one yet for Marvel, which apparently is one of the reasons why they brought on Taika Waititi to direct it. The site says that the studio felt he could “bring a touch of lightness” to the film. Continue reading

During a recent Q&A that director James Gunn held on Facebook, he offered some updates regarding Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. There’s nothing major revealed, but he did tease a few things. The director confirmed that casting on the film is almost complete and that they will shoot the film for 10 months in Atlanta starting in February 2016.

When asked about the characters who will be introduced in the film, he revealed that there will be at least one new character:

“I’m not going to give names and I won’t give numbers either, but there will be at least one new character in Guardians of the Galaxy.”

As for Adam Warlock’s involvement in Guardians of the Galaxy and whether or not the character could play a part in Avengers: Infinity War, he said:

“You guys gotta wait and see… Everything’s going to be different in the ‘Infinity Wars.’ I’m a lot more concerned with ‘Vol. 2’ than I am with ‘Infinity Wars.’ The way the movie [’Vol. 2’] is structured and made – it really is a story unto itself. It’s not about leading up to anything else. It’s about the Guardians and their lives.”
