Jeff Goldblum’s Grandmaster in THOR: RAGNAROK is The Collector’s Brother

There was one other fun piece of new revealed at Comic-Con this past weekend that I wanted to share. During the Thor: Ragnarok panel, Jeff Goldblum revealed an interesting piece of information regarding his character The Grandmaster.

He shared that The Grandmaster is the brother of The Collector (Benicio Del Toro) in Guardians of the Galaxy, which is a cool little connection that I wasn’t expecting. They aren’t brothers in the comics, but I like that they’ve done it for the MCU, it just adds a nice little dynamic. Goldblum went on to explain and threw in a bit more interesting information:

“We’re elders of the universe. We came about shortly after the Big Bang. We’re the oldest living creatures in the universe. Grandmaster and my brother, Collector. I rule on this planet Sakaar and I put together games. I put together the great, great match between Hulk and the new Thor. “

Marvel has tweaked a few things with The Grandmaster in the MCU, but from what I’ve seen everything works, and I’m totally fine with any changes they’ve made. I love how the different corners of the MCU are connecting to each other and I’m sure there are more connections to come as we move closer to the fourth Avengers film.

I have no idea if we’ll ever see The Grandmaster and The Collector together on the big screen in the MCU, but I hope it eventually happens!

We Might See a More Verbal Hulk in THOR: RAGNAROK

About a month ago, Mark Ruffalo was talking about how the Hulk will be portrayed in Thor: Ragnarok. At the time, he said, “The Banner/Hulk consciousness is beginning to meld a little bit.” Throughout the course of the films we’ve heard the Hulk say little things like “puny God,” but it sounds like the character might be more verbal in the upcoming Thor movie. During an interview with HitFix, director Taika Waititi said that this certain element of the Hulk is still being discussed. Continue reading

Mark Ruffalo thoughts of THOR: RAGNAROK

Thor: Ragnarok got a lot of attention a few months ago for reportedly being Marvel’s darkest movie yet, but with more recent aspects like the movie’s new director, how Odin is going to be treated, and the desire for more comedy in the film, so far it sounds a lot more lighthearted than its title indicates (Ragnarok is the Norse apocalypse). A lot can change between now and when the movie goes into production (and we’re obviously only hearing about small elements at a time, not the whole picture), but the latest statement from Mark Ruffalo — who will co-star as Bruce Banner/The Incredible Hulk opposite Chris Hemsworth’s title hero — seems to be the latest thing that points to the movie being a little lighter than we expected. We just learned  that Bruce Banner/Hulk might appear in Thor: Ragnarok. Now we have some additional information about the tone and another character that might appear in it.

We know Thor: Ragnarok would be a dark film. After all, the comic book story arc features an apocalyptic battle that the Realm of Asgard has experienced over and over and over again. Ragnarok is a cycle of death and rebirth.

The sequel is being written by Christopher Yost and Craig Kyle, and according to Birth.Movies.Death., the script is the darkest one yet for Marvel, which apparently is one of the reasons why they brought on Taika Waititi to direct it. The site says that the studio felt he could “bring a touch of lightness” to the film. Continue reading
