New Mutants, Deadpool 2, and Dark Phoenix Release Dates Revealed

Following their reveal that the next four Avatar movies are set to arrive starting in 2020, 20th Century Fox has revealed three more release dates for some of their fan-favorite properties. The first is the long-awaited New Mutants movie, which will debut on April 13, 2018, followed by the highly-anticipated Deadpool 2 on June 1, 2018, and Dark Phoenix on November 2, 2018.

In addition, the studio has announced Shane Black’s The Predator has been delayed from its February 9, 2018 release date to August 3, 2018.

New Mutants hails from director Josh Boone with a cast set to include Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones) as Wolfsbane, Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch) as Magik, Nat Wolff as Cannonball, and James McAvoy as Professor Charles Xavier. The film is set to open against one of Universal’s rebooted monster movies.

Professor X to Appear in NEW MUTANTS, Which Starts Filming in 2017

Here’s a small update about the future of the X-Men movie franchise. During the press junket for X-Men: Apocalypse, writer/producer Simon Kinberg told Collider that a familiar name is going to show up in Josh Boone’s New Mutants movie:

“Right now, as the movie exists, Professor X would be a part of a New Mutants movie.”

Deadpool did a sly job of helping set up the X-Men spinoff New Mutants. It introduced Negasonic Teenage Warhead as part of the team, and gave us a look at their uniforms without ever mentioning the Marvel outfit by name. Simon Kinberg Provides Updates on a DEADPOOL Sequel, WOLVERINE 3, NEW MUTANTS, and More

Writer/producer Simon Kinberg has become 20th Century Fox’s go-to guy when it comes to the studio’s Marvel superhero films, and he’s involved with so many properties he’s also become one of the movie press’s go-to sources of information about all of those project since he’s constantly out promoting films he’s worked on.

Fox has closed a deal with The Fault In Our Stars director Josh Boone to co-write and direct The New Mutants, a standalone spin-off that expands its X-Men movie universe. The series, already part of the X-Men Comics universe, introduces a new crop of mutant characters born with special powers. Boone will co-write with Knate Gwaltney.
