The Graphics Technology of Fallout 4 by Bethesda

(Note: the following is a repost from Bethesda.net).

The hardware we play games on continues to advance at a rapid pace with exciting new graphics features. Our Creation Engine has evolved to incorporate this new technology in order to empower the artists and designers at Bethesda Game Studios to create an immersive new world. The tech team here is closely aligned with the art team, and together we carefully selected each individual feature based on specific artistic and performance goals we wanted to achieve in creating this world. Nothing is what it seems in the new Halo 5 trailer

Last week, we saw Master Chief die, his little face light blinking out sadly amongst the rubble of a ruined city. Today, we see him rise from the impromptu grave in a new TV trailer, giving a nice hint as to why he’s suddenly Galactic Enemy Number 1 (with the rest of his Blue Team squadron taking up positions 2 through 4), and even the game’s new Revive mechanic. That’s efficient marketing, you guys! Continue reading

Creative Assembly bringing total Halo Wars 2 to Xbox One and Windows 10

Halo Wars, the Xbox 360 RTS that pit humans and Covenant against one another in top-down strategic battles, is getting a sequel bound for Xbox One and Windows 10 devices. What’s more, it’s being developed by Creative Assembly, the studio behind the Total War franchise.

Although no gameplay was shown of Halo Wars 2, we got a quick glimpse at a UNSC soldier (possibly a Spartan) being pulled away from danger as a Brute (who looked and sounded quite a bit like Halo 2 villain Tartarus) grins wickedly. “Run, little demons,” he taunts.

You’ll be able to wipe that smile from his toothy face in fall 2016.

Black Ops 2 is now the most-wanted Xbox One backwards compatible game

If Xbox fans could add any one game to the Xbox One backwards compatibility list, it would be Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. Treyarch’s 2012 shooter has officially outpaced Red Dead Redemption as the most-requested Xbox 360 game on Microsoft’s official backwards compatibility survey page, with more than 77,000 votes at the time of this writing. ‘Silent Hills’ To Be Purchased By Microsoft As Xbox One Exclusive

SilentHills_Pause

Rumors are spreading around that Microsoft is in talks with Konami to purchase the rights for Silent Hills, a deal that is said to cost billions! The deal is being rushed now in the hopes that if it goes through, Microsoft can announce the title as an Xbox One exclusive at this year’s E3, a move that would potentially skyrocket sales for the console.

Evidence that points to this being a reality is that the video received an anonymous tip from a source that has provided them with reliable information in the past. Additionally, the removal of P.T. from the Playstation Network might have been a show of good faith by Konami to ensure its exclusivity on the Xbox One platform.

Please remember that this is solely to be taken as a rumor until we have heard otherwise. Continue reading

Xbox One is bringing games to HoloLens

Hololens

Today at GDC 2015, Microsoft pledged the future of HoloLens to gaming as it confirmed that it will be bringing games to the headset through Xbox One.

“Gaming and entertainment is going to be critical” for HoloLens, said Xbox boss Phil Spencer. Microsoft considers HoloLens as a massive platform for games that will be built across Xbox One and Windows 10.

“We see this as a full Windows 10 device with holographic capability,” added Spencer, who also mentioned that the HoloLens APIs will be made available with Windows 10 gaming SDK.

As far as what we’ll end up seeing available on HoloLens through the Xbox One, it’s anyone’s guess. However, Spencer did make it clear that some hefty first-party muscle is behind the initiative. It’s very possible that we could see the likes of Master Chief through the AR headset in the future.

‘Rock Band’ is back with ‘Rock Band 4’: headed to Xbox One and PS4 in 2015

Remember way back in 2009? Times were simpler then: Pittsburgh’s Steelers were Super Bowl champions; Tiger Woods was caught having an affair; and I was playing a lot of Rock Band. You probably were too. Many millions of you were, anyway, and the plastic peripheral market was booming. In a few short years, the world went from zero to dozens of plastic guitars, keyboards, mics and drums per household, all in the name of games like Rock Band and Guitar Hero. House parties quickly turned into Rock Band parties with surprising frequency. It was only another few short years before those games, and the peripherals they required, fell off a cliff. That was 2010, when Rock Band 3 launched. Continue reading
