Director Matt Reeves Offers a Brief But Optimistic Update on THE BATMAN

Matt Reeves has been deep into the development of The Batman for Warner Bros. and after a fan recently asked how it was coming along, the director offered a brief but enthusiastic response.

Elijah Pierson @elijahPierson

I’m sure people ask you all the time about The Batman, who will be in it, what it’s about, etc. But I bet no one asks HOW it is going on The Batman. So, how is it going on The Batman?

Really, really well, thanks! I could not be more excited! ?

The last we heard from Reeves, he said, “I am outlining, I have the story worked out and I am outlining.” It was then revealed later that the studio was looking to start shooting the film in 2019, which means we won’t see the next Batman movie in theaters until 2020 or 2021.

As we’ve previously reported, he’s looking to do a dark noir-style film that will focus on the detective side of the Dark Knight, which I’m excited about seeing! If all goes well, Reeves has an idea for a story arc that would span over the course of a trilogy of films.

THE BATMAN Movie Will Begin Production in 2019

It looks like The Batman may not be suiting up in 2018, that’s according to director Matt Reeves after he debunked rumors suggesting he might be walking away from Warner Bros.’ upcoming Batman movie.

According to Heroic Hollywood, the movie won’t begin production until 2019 and that’s because Warner Bros. already has three other DC Films set to shoot this year. Shazam is in production now. Wonder Woman 2 will begin next followed by the Joker origin story movie.

Ben Affleck Confirms He’s Not Leaving The Batman Role and He’s Excited to Work with Matt Reeves

Yesterday a rumor surfaced that Ben Affleck‘s Batman would be gracefully ushered out of the DCEU. Well, that rumor is false. Affleck confirmed today during the Justice League panel at Comic-Con that he is not leaving the Batman role. In fact, he’s thrilled to be a part of it and he’s excited to work with director Matt Reeves on The Batman. He said:

“I am the luckiest guy in the world. Batman is the coolest part in any universe, Marvel DC, anything–I’m so thrilled to do it. Its fucking amazing. I still can’t believe it. Everyone at the studio tells me I’m their Batman and I believe it. And Matt Reeves? I’d be an ape on the ground for Matt Reeves. Im blown away and its an exciting time in the DC Universe. I’m excited to be Batman.”

That doesn’t sound like the kind of guy who plans on leaving the role of Batman anytime soon. He’s stoked to be a part it! I’m glad he’s not leaving. I actually really enjoy Affleck in the role of Batman and it’s great to know that this iteration of the character will continue to be explored in future films.

THE BATMAN Director Matt Reeves Says The Film Will Be Influenced By Alfred Hitchcock

Ever since Matt Reeves stepped into the director’s chair for The Batman, there’s been no concrete information on what we can expect from the film. Today, however, we learned from the director that his film will be influenced and inspired by the films of the great Alfred Hitchcock. If any comic book film could fit in with Hitchcock’s filmmaking style, it’s Batman!

THE BATMAN Script Will Be Rewritten From Scratch

Shortly after director Matt Reeves signed on to helm The Batman, a report surfaced explaining that the only way he was going to take the gig was if he got to make the movie his way. He wanted full creative control. We’ve already speculated that he would re-build the film from the ground-up and now it looks like that’s what’s actually happening. According to /Film, ‘the screenplay for The Batman is being rewritten from the ground up.”

There was already a completed screenplay in place and ready to go if Ben Affleck stayed on to direct, but it seems like that script is being thrown out the window. So, any of those rumors we’ve previously heard regarding the story of the film are no longer a part of the film.

The original script was written by Affleck, Chris Terrio, and Geoff Johns. The studio and everyone involved was said to be happy with the script and the one thing we knew about it for sure was that Batman would be facing off with Deathstroke in it.

I personally think it’s great that Reeves is starting from scratch with fresh eyes. Reeves has proven himself to be a great director and I believe he’ll actually get this production in order and make sure to give fans the badass Batman film we are all hoping for. This is good news, people! This means whatever trainwreck was in play before is now getting a fresh new start with Reeves at the helm. If there was any worry about The Batman, it’s gone now.

The movie is also being delayed because of Reeves’ commitment to finish up Rise of the Planet of the Apes, which he’ll be working on through June.

Matt Reeves Decides He Doesn’t Want to Direct THE BATMAN

Last week news broke that Rise of the Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves was in talks to replace Ben Affleck as the director of The Batman. It was expected that he would take the gig but in the end, he opted to drop out of the running.

The new comes from Variety, but there are no reasons given as to why he decided to not pursue it. The report just says that “talks have broken down” between the director and the studio and “negotiations have stopped”.

According to an inside source, WB is still intent on making the film by “whatever means necessary.” Continue reading

Some Fans Want Kevin Smith to Direct THE BATMAN and the Filmmaker Responds

Last night news broke that Ben Affleck stepped down as the director of The Batman for the good of the film. The director’s chair is now wide open for someone to come in and lead the film into glory or failure. After Affleck dropped out, some fans immediately started to rally behind Kevin Smith for the job. The guy has a long history with comic books and even wrote the limited series “Batman: The Widening Gyre”. He has also recently been directing episodes of “Supergirl” and “The Flash” for The CW. Deathstroke Actor Joe Manganiello Explains Why Fans Are Going to Love Ben Affleck’s THE BATMAN

There’s been some of negativity surrounding Ben Affleck’s upcoming new Batman film because of a rumor stating that the script has some “serious issues” and that the studio doesn’t care because the movie is going to make money anyway. That’s a terrible mentality to have, but I seriously doubt Affleck shares those beliefs because the guy only makes quality movies that he believes in, and I don’t think he is going to make a shitty Batman film.

Deathstroke actor Joe Manganiello was recently a guest on former pro wrestling announcer Mark Madden’s podcast and talked a little bit about Affleck’s take on the Dark Knight and why fans are going to love it. Continue reading
