You might have heard about Spider-Verse before – probably something about how crazy it is, or who cameoed where, or a few new characters. But if you don’t follow the comics, it probably all sounds a bit confusing. Here’s a brief catchup on what you’ve missed, and what it means for Spidey’s comic future. (Possible SPOILERS)
Back in October, Marvel Comics announced an all-new Secret Wars series would be taking place in 2015 and would later reveal that the story’s “Battleworld” would be made up of different stories from all throughout the Marvel canon. It’s been a mess over at Sony Pictures for the last few months, and know one knows exactly what the hell they plan on doing with their Spider-Man franchise. The future of the superhero is up in the air, but it looks like they still plan on moving forward with that Sinister Six spin-off film, which is being developed by Drew Goddard (The Cabin in the Woods). The studio recently posted this image teasing Sinister Six on their official International Facebook page:
The English translation of the text in the image (thanks to ComicBook.com) is, “We have plans for you … #Spider-Man.” I’m not sure why they would post this if they weren’t still planning on making the movie. Last year, Sony gave Sinister Six a release date of November 11th, 2016. I wonder if they still plan on trying to get the movie done by then.
I’m a fan of Goddard’s work, and I’d like to think that he could pull off an awesome Sinister Six film. It really could be good if the studio executives don’t try to screw it up with their terrible ideas of what they think a good super villain movie should be.
The Vulture and Doctor Octopus are the only two characters represented in the image, and as you know they were also teased at the end of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which also included Electro, Rhino, and the Goblin. Now, I assume since they “have plans” for Spider-Man, that the web-slinger will also be in the movie. As I’ve said before, it would be hard to make a movie with a bunch of Spider-Man villains without Spider-Man. It’s just not sounding like Andrew Garfield will be involved this time around.
I do have another theory about what this might mean. Maybe this is for the previously announced Amazing Spider-Man 3, and instead of crowding a movie with six villains, they are only going to focus on Vulture and Doc Ock as the main antagonists. That kind of contradicts everything that we’ve heard surrounding the superhero up until this point, though.

Yesterday, a rumor spread claiming that Sony Pictures had made a deal with Marvel Studios for the character of Spider-Man to appear in Avengers: Infinity War. It came from solid sources from the folks at Latino Review, but now Sony has officially gone on the record to deny the claim. Sony reps told the people at CBR that it was an “old rumor” with “no validity whatsoever.”
Thanks to our friends at Latino Review, we have some potentially mind-blowing details for what we will see happen in Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and more. The details also include the inclusion of Spider-Man. The deal between Marvel and Sony has reportedly gone through.

If you’ve been reading Dan Slott’s Spider-Verse saga over at Marvel Comics, you know this “Crisis on Infinite Spider-Men” has combined pretty much taken every iteration of ol’ Web-head and joined them into one epic adventure. But one specific introduction has just blown my mind.
In The Amazing Spider-Man #12, a group of Spider-heroes have collected a variety of their counterparts from a variety of Japans, including the Marvel Mangaverse Spidey as well as Yu Komori, the protagonist of the 1970s’ Spider-Man manga. But there is a third — Takuya Yamashiro, star of the Japanese live-action Spider-Man TV show from the ’70s, better known as Supaidman. And he brought a friend.
Yes, Supaidaman’s giant robot Leopardon just set foot in the official, 616 universe to join forces against Solus, a villain determined to take out every Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man in every reality. I won’t say how it goes, but I will say this — writer Dan Slott and artist Olivier Coipel are doing the Lord’s work over there.
