Will Marvel Launch Phase 4 with a NEW AVENGERS Movie?

It’s no secret that Marvel plans way in advance for the movies that they make. They are looking at least three or more years into the future for what they want to give their fans. They are constantly in discussion, so there’s always a chance that little bits of info on those discussions are going to leak out. We’ve seen it happen before, so why wouldn’t it happen again?

The studio is currently heavily focused on completing Phase 2 with Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Avengers: Age of Ultron. They will then move into Phase 3, starting with Ant-Man, which is the only officially announced film at this point, but Doctor Strange will most likely be a part of it as well. I’m excited to see what else they end up announcing, but according to a report from Unleash the Fanboy, Phase 4 of Marvel’s plan might kick off with a New Avengers movie.

The site claims to have a source at Disney who had this to say,

“It’s so incredibly early in the process, but unless Robert [Downey Jr.] makes an insane deal with these guys, they’re going with New Avengers.”

Downey Jr. is currently signed up to do two more Avengers films, but after that he may not return to reprise his role as Tony Stark. It will be interesting to see what they do with the character when Downey Jr. calls it quits. I’ve heard they would replace him to keep Stark in the films, but we’ll see.

The site goes on to ask their source if the New Avengers story arc will follow the comic book series Avengers: Disassembled which left the superhero team in a Diaspora until they re-assembled as the New Avengers. I know that the comic arc includes Spider-Man and Wolverine, but don’t expect them to show up in any Marvel-produced film.

So when [they] asked if the movie would feature that comic arc or if they will just include a new team of heroes, the source said,

“Well, you’ve heard the recent casting announcements. They’ve got a ton of great guys. Paul Rudd. Michael Douglas. Aaron Taylor-Johnson. Whoever they choose for Doctor Strange and the other new guys in Phase 3. They’ve got a lot of great guys to lead the new phase of the team. But that’s all I say.  It’s really early.”

As of right now this is all just a rumor so treat it as such. The site does have a track record of getting solid intel, though. It will be interesting to see what Marvel does end up doing with Phase 4, but it makes sense that at some point they would bring us a New Avengers film.

J.J. Abrams Talks about STAR WARS Secrecy

As you might imagine, there is a ton of secrecy surrounding Disney and Lucasfilm’s Star Wars films. They are so intense with the security that director J.J. Abrams doesn’t even get to see sunlight when working on the script for the film.

During an interview with the Daily Telegraph Abrams explained that,

“My office… I’m working on the Star Wars script today and the people in my office have covered up all my windows with black paper. I guess they wanted to make sure no one could see what I was doing. it seems rather extreme.”

But it’s an extreme to which they are willing to go to protect what they are working on. What they don’t seem to get is that no matter how many windows they black out, leaks can come from within the orginization itself. He went on to talk about the digital age, saying,

“I do think there’s something about the digital age that is increasingly dehumanising us. We’re in this very weird place where we’re being pulled into experiences that aren’t really experiences at all. When you’re printing something on a Chandler & Price letterpress, even though it might take a long time and it’s imperfect, isn’t that the point?”

He then went on to say,

“We’re living in a moment of instant information and a sense of entitlement to that information. But I think it’s nice to remember that there’s nothing wrong with a sense of anticipation.”

One day everything we will want to know about the new Star Wars films will be revealed. In the mean time, it’s incredibly fun to talk about the rumors and what we want to see from the return of the classic sci-fi franchise. I have to say that blacking out the windows seems pretty ridiculous though.

STAR WARS REBELS – New Details and Character Revea

There’s still so much we have to learn about the new Star Wars Rebels animated series, but so far everything that has been revealed looks and sounds awesome! Thanks to executive producer Dave Filoni, we now have some new details on the series, including the reveal of a new character.

While talking to MoviePilot.de, Filoni says the series will see the return of classic Star Wars ships and that the tone of the series will be different from The Clone Wars.

“We will see many things that are famous to Star Wars, but have not appeared on screen in a while. Star Destroyers, TIE Fighters, and Stormtroopers – basically the Empire is back and that is a big change, since, for many years, we have only seen the Republic in action. The tone of the series is also different. The Clone Wars got very dark as we headed towards the end of the war and the downfall of the Jedi. Star Wars Rebels brings back the banter and faster pace that the original films were famous for.”

I kind of liked the dark tone of The Clone Wars, but I’m sure there will still be some dark elements amongst the banter. The villain they have seems like he could be a pretty terrifying dude. Filoni went on to talk about the setting for the series and the new planet Lothal.

“Rebels takes place in the Outer Rim. The audience typically thinks of Tatooine as the place where Luke Skywalker grew up, when the Outer Rim is mentioned. We are on a more civilized planet, and one that profited from the Empire’s existence in the beginning. Most of the stories take place on the planet Lothal, which is a grass planet with large monolithic stones on the surface. The look comes from some Ralph McQuarrie concept paintings that were done for the original Star Wars films. We tried to make Lothal look and feel like a planet that would have been in the original film trilogy. It’s alien, but you feel like it’s someplace that you could visit on Earth geographically. Hoth, Tatooine, and Endor are all like this, so we think it fits in well.”

The only confirmed character of the series until today has been the villain The Inquisitor, but Filoni has new revealed a character named Chopper, who happens to be a droid.

The highly anticipated series is set between the events of Episode III and IV — “an era spanning almost two decades never-before explored on-screen. It takes place in a time where the Empire is securing its grip on the galaxy and hunting down the last of the Jedi Knights as a fledgling rebellion against the Empire is taking shape.”

GOTHAM: The Penguin Will Be First Batman Villain

This Batman-inspired TV series Gotham is sounding like it’s going to be a hell of a series. It’s shaping up nicely, and the rumors that are circulating have been exciting. It was recently revealed that Sons of Anarchy‘s Donal Logue has been offered the role of detective Harvey Bullock. Today, thanks to El Mayimbe from Latino Review, we’ve learned that the first villain that will be introduced from Batman’s rogues gallery will be Oswald Cobblepot, a.k.a. The Penguin! Apparently, they are currently on the hunt for an actor in his twenties to take on the role.

This is just one of several villains that will be introduced in the series. It will be cool to see who they end up casting in these villainous roles. The series will focus on James Gordon, a young Bruce Wayne, and the villains that he will grow up to fight.

“The show won’t have a bunch of characters you’ve never heard of. We see Detective Gordon, before he’s a commissioner, all the characters you know, Bruce Wayne, the Penguin, all of them. It’s Gotham teetering on the edge, and we see what makes these characters become who they are, [like] Catwoman. It’s an operatic soap that has a slightly larger-than-life quality to it.”

GODFATHER 2 Is Joss Whedon’s Model for AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON

In a recent interview, Joss Whedon explains that The Godfather Part 2 is his ‘guiding star’ for Avengers: Age of Ultron. He also explains that Captain America: The Winter Solider will affect the events of his Avengers sequel, but also says that you wouldn’t have to see Captain America to get what’s going on in the Avengers storyline. Here’s what he had to say to AlloCiné.fr,

“The events of Captain America [The Winter Soldier] will definitely affect the world of Avengers 2. But at the end of the day, I have to make my movie assuming that people will only have seen the first one, or possibly not even seen the first one. I can’t assume that everybody went to see Thor [The Dark World], Captain America, and Iron Man 3 in-between. I have to go from one movie to the next and be true to what’s happened [in the previous movies], but not be slavish to it. […] The model I’m always trying to build from, or my guiding star, is The Godfather: Part II where a ton has happened in-between and it’s a very different movie [from Part I], but you don’t need any information. It’s there in the film about what’s happened since, what’s different, and why is this a different film; why is it a different kind of structure, and why is it darker. It’s all there, you’re in the vernacular of the first movie and you’re just ready to pick up in this new place, and hopefully that’s what will happen with my movie. Obviously I’m talking about one of the greatest films ever made (The Godfather: Part II)… I hope mine will be good, but that is my guiding star.”

The Godfather Part 2 is one of my favorite movies of all time, and the fact that that Whedon is using it as his inspiration for his next film is encouraging. I’m sure Age of Ultron is going to turn out incredibly well and will make fans incredibly happy. It’s set to be released on May 1st, 2014!

An analysis of “Paradise by the Dashboard Light, Part 2?

There really isn’t much wiggle room when it comes to interpreting the Meat Loaf classic rock opus, “Paradise by the Dashboard Light.” It is a cautionary tale about a seventeen-year-old boy who makes a rueful, life-altering decision in order to satisfy his virginal libido. The song, like many 70?s classic rock songs, is divided into three parts. Part one describes the beginning of the date night, as the singer is all happy-go-lucky. But in part three, the singer is regretful and miserable and prays for the end of time. The transition between these polar opposite emotions occurs in part two, where the girl (sung by Ellen Foley) issues an ultimatum, “Before we going any further… will you love me forever? … Will you make me your wife?” The boy tries to stall and dodge the question, “Let me sleep on it,” but the girl will have none of that and presses for an answer.

The real reason why the song is so beloved is the spoken word bridge at the start of part 2. It is a fictional baseball play-by-play account announced by famed New York Yankees announcer Phil Rizzuto. In the background, we hear the couple engaged in some heavy foreplay. There is no mistaking that Rizzuto’s words are 100% euphemism for sex. The songwriter, Jim Steinman uses the common (in America) baseball euphemism to describe the progression of the couple’s make-out session. For his part, Rizzuto always claimed that he had no idea what his role was really about in this song until he heard the finished product.

As a metaphor, the bridge makes perfect sense. But no one has ever taken this at face value. Let’s do a thought experiment and imagine that Phil was broadcasting a real-life major league baseball game. If we do, we would conclude that the song is even more brilliant that it’s given credit for; since the baseball events are so absurd and full of so many errors by everyone involved – from the players, to the coaches and managers, that the baseball sequence is also a metaphor for the monumental errors in judgement that the boy is going to commit all for the sake of sexual pleasure. New FANTASTIC FOUR Reboot Plot Synopsis

Director Josh Trank has said the synopsis is false and that it’s not true.

“that synopsis is definitely not the synopsis or anything close to the synopsis. i don’t know who put that out. byyee.”

A new plot synopsis for the Josh Trank-directed reboot of Fantastic Four has been leaked thanks to a casting call. I’m not sure how happy fans are going to be with it though, as it looks like they changed the origin story of the classic superhero team. If you are looking for another reason to rant about the upcoming reboot, then this should give you some fuel.

“The Fantastic Four’ will tell the story of two very young friends, Reed Richards and Ben Grimm. After an event transforms the boys, they find themselves empowered with bizarre new abilities. Reed becomes a scientific genius who can stretch, twist and re-shape his body to inhuman proportions. Ben becomes a monstrous, craggy humanoid with orange, rock-like skin and super strength. However, the two end up being owned by the government and used as weapons. But after they mature, two others with powers come into the picture – Sue Storm “The Invisible Girl” and Johnny Storm “The Human Torch.”

This is very different from any origin story I’ve ever seen for the Fantastic Four. There’s a chance that this may not be what we see in the final product, but it will be really interesting if it is. I definitely wasn’t expecting to see this from the movie. That could be a good thing, or it could be bad. I guess we’ll just have to see how it turns out.

As far as the casting and where it currently stands, Michael B. Jordan will be playing Johnny Storm. Miles Teller, Game of Thrones’ Kit Harington, and Richard Madden are up for Reed Richards. Kate Mara and Saoirse Ronan are in the running for Sue Storm.

Apparently, production of the film is supposed to start in a few weeks, so we can expect some official casting announcements in the near future.

The movie is scheduled to be released June 19th, 2015.

BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN: Details on Batman’s Second Suit

If you’ve paid attention to the words Kevin Smith has used to describe the Batsuit that director Zack Snyder showed him, you probably have some sense of the general color scheme Ben Affleck will be wearing as the Caped Crusader in Batman Vs. Superman. Smith called the version he saw Affleck modeling “a very familiar Batman,” but that it “didn’t look like any of the cinematic Batmans that have ever gone before.” He also added that it’s “the suit you all wanted to see.” Reading between the lines, you can guess that this is either a grey/black or grey/blue suit that we’ve grown up seeing in the comics, but never on the big screen.

Our friends at Latino-Review have a possible description of not one, but TWO suits that Affleck will wear in the film. Marvelous Dave had this to say earlier this week:

“The more interesting thing I’ve heard is that Batman will actually wear 2 batsuits in the film, but where as Grey-and-Blue has already been designed and Affleck has worn it, the second Batsuit is more armored like the one in the Dark Knight Returns and Kingdom Come comics.”

As stated above, the primary suit will likely be (barring some last minute change) grey-and-blue. As far as the armor goes, El Mayimbe revealed more details on that suit yesterday. He prefaces the info by saying “because of the ultra secretive nature surrounding the movie, it’s insanely difficult to confirm the following so take with a grain of salt.” You’ve been warned, so take the info as it is.

“According to the source, the plating is silver/white. The plates are attached to a black undercloth. The plates doesn’t cover his entire body. We see the black undercloth at the joints. Supposedly, it looks incredible. Equally, or maybe even better-looking than the other suit and it’s leagues above and beyond Bale’s suit from what I’m told.”

Again, this is early info so the suit/suits are subject to change. With the rumor being that Warner Bros. pushed the release date of the film back to 2016 in order to shoot the film back to back with Justice League, it’s a definite possibility that the suits could go through changes to better fit with other characters that will be introduced in both films.

Mark Ruffalo Wants an Eco-Friendly HULK Movie

I’m sure one day Marvel will get around to making another Hulk film, but it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen any time soon. Maybe not until Phase Four or even Five. In a recent interview with Total Film, Mark Ruffalo was asked about the possibility of a standalone Hulk movie, and if it happens he would like to see an eco-friendly type movie. Here’s what he said,

“As artists we have an ability to reach a lot of people in a deep way, and we have a responsibility. What we have to do as storytellers is to take science and make it relatable. I think we have to tell the story of the positive and what we’re going to try to do. Give them alternatives but don’t make it a polemic.

“I’m in The Avengers, but if you took my screentime it would come to about ten minutes, along with the 12 other people I’m sharing the screen with, so my input’s kind of limited on that. But if we get to a standalone Hulk movie, I’ll have a much better chance to do that. I’m just learning now how to find my voice and bring it into the studio world.”

The next time we see the Hulk will be in Avengers: Age of Ultron, which is set to be released on May 1st, 2015. Personally, I’d love to see a live action version of Planet Hulk, but that may never happen. What other Hulk storylines would you like to see brought to the big screen?

Mark Ruffalo Comments on Avengers: Age of Ultron Script

Though he’s campaigning for his own solo film, the next time we get to see Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/The Hulk will be in 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. Speaking with MTV, Mark Ruffalo was asked about the script for the highly anticipated sequel and said: “I would say that it’s better, it’s cooler, it’s more awesomer. It’s a little bit darker, but also really has Joss Whedon’s incredible witty and sly sense of humor.”

Ruffalo also added that Banner “gets to do such great stuff” in the sequel. Check out the full video below.
