SMURFS Gets a Reboot and Genndy Tartakovsky Is Back for HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA 2

http://static.squarespace.com/static/51b3dc8ee4b051b96ceb10de/t/5320b7cfe4b0db5158a6721b/1394653137721/smurfs-gets-a-reboot-and-genndy-tartakovsky-is-back-for-hotel-transylvainia-2?format=750w

Those Smurf movies didn’t do so hot. The good news is Sony Pictures Animation has decided not to make a Smurfs 3. The bad news is they plan on rebooting the whole franchise and starting fresh.

The studio has hired Shrek 2 and Gnomeo & Juliet director Kelly Asbury to helm the animated film that is said to include all new designs and environments. Deadline also reports that it “will focus on the origins of the little blue creatures,” and that new film will “be closer to creator  Peyo’s original artwork.”

A Smurfs 3 would probably do just as well as a Smurfs reboot at the box office. I guess maybe they think taking out the live-action aspect of the film will make it more appealing to audiences. The first two films brought in a combined $910 million worldwide, so it makes sense that they would want to stay on the money train and make another one. I just won’t be seeing it.

The studio will release the reboot on the August 2015 date they had planned to release Smurfs 3.

It was also announced that Sony Pictures’ animation is bringing back Genndy Tartakovsky to direct Hotel Transylvania 2, which will be released in September 2015. Adam Sandler will be back to star, and he is co-writing the script with Robert Smigel. Tartakovsky is also developing Sony’s CG Popeye pic and his own original idea, which is described as a “fantastic journey through one boy’s imagination.”

CBS Sets Mega 3-Season Renewal for ‘The Big Bang Theory’

Big Bang Theory
Sheldon and Leonard will be geeking out on CBS for years to come thanks to a mega three-season renewal pact that CBS has struck with Warner Bros. TV for “The Big Bang Theory.”Deal for primetime’s No. 1 comedy runs through the 2016-17 season, shoring up a cornerstone of CBS’ schedule. “Big Bang” has logged its highest ratings to date this season, its seventh, averaging 19.79 million viewers and a 6.1 rating/19 share in adults 18-49.

Warner Bros. TV is also in the midst of contract renewal negotiations with key cast members Jim Parsons, Johnny Galecki, Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting and others.

“Big Bang” is the brightest star in Chuck Lorre’s constellation of CBS comedies. Lorre and Bill Prady co-created the series and exec produce with Steven Molaro, who has been showrunner for the past two seasons.

“Comedy is a big part of our schedule, and ‘The Big Bang Theory’ is the biggest comedy force on television,” said CBS Entertainment chair Nina Tassler.

“This multiyear deal further strengthens our network’s position for future seasons and marks another chapter in the great partnership CBS enjoys with Warner Bros. Television for delivering audiences the best in comedy. We’re proud to work with and showcase the incredible talents of Chuck Lorre, Steve Molaro and this amazing cast every week,” she said.

Although “Big Bang’s” license deal with CBS expired after this season, there was never any drama about Warner Bros. TV shopping the show to other networks or rumors about a standoff over license fee negotiations. The show has been wildly profitable for the studio in syndication since 2011.

Financial details of the renewal were unclear, but CBS is undoubtedly covering all production costs on the series as well as adding a premium on top given that “Big Bang” is such a ratings dynamo.

Take a First Look at NBC’s Constantine!

CONSTANTINE-First-Official-Image__140313145124-575x862As mentioned on Monday, NBC’s new DC Comics series “Constantine” is shooting its pilot this week and the first photo from the set has turned up at Slates For Sarah, a special site dedicated to the memory of Sarah Elizabeth Jones, who tragically lost her life last month while working as a camera assistant on the Greg Allman biopic Midnight Rider. Four Actors Up for Doctor Doom in FANTASTIC FOUR

The casting for Josh Trank‘s Fantastic Four reboot continues with four actors up for the role of the villain Doctor Doom. Those actors include Domhnall Gleeson (About Time), Toby Kebbell (Wrath of the Titans), Eddie Redmayne (Les Miserables), and Sam Riley (On the Road).

These are all fine young actors, and I seriously think that any one of them would be awesome as this villain. Whoever ends up being cast will join Jamie Bell (The Thing), Michael B. Jordan (The Human Torch), Kate Mara (The Invisible Woman), and Miles Teller (Mr. Fantastic).

The Fantastic Four is set to be released on June 19th, 2015. Of the actors listed above, who would you like to see take on the role of Doctor Doom?

Jason Sudeikis Cast as Fletch in FLETCH WON

Warner Bros. is planning to reboot the classic 1980s Fletch comedy franchise and they are looking to cast Jason Sudeikis in the iconic role famously played by Chevy Chase. The movie is called Fletch Won, and it’s the first in a planned series of films the studio is hoping to make.

The Fletch movies are based on the Gregory McDonald mystery novels that center on an investigative reporter named I. M. Fletcher. I’ve never read any of the books, but the movies that Chase made were freakin’ hilarious. I can only hope that the new films will be just as funny.

I think Sudeikis will be great in the role, but it will be hard to outdo what Chase did. According to THRFletch Won is an origin story described as “a gritty action comedy with heart and more tonally in line with McDonald’s novels than the Chase movies.”

The studio has been trying to get this film off the ground for awhile, but they brought in David List, Steve Golin, and Michael Sugar to write the script, and apparently everyone likes what they’ve seen. They are now looking for a director to bring it to life.

GOTHAM TV Series – Official Logo and Detailed Synopsis

FOX has released the official logo design and detailed plot synopsis for their upcoming Batman inspired series, Gotham. This show is sure to be a hit. I absolutely love what they are doing with the story and these characters. I’m so freakin’ excited for this! You can read through all of the awesome details below!

Everyone knows the name Commissioner Gordon. He is one of the crime world’s greatest foes, a man whose reputation is synonymous with law and order. But what is known of Gordon’s story and his rise from rookie detective to Police Commissioner? What did it take to navigate the multiple layers of corruption that secretly ruled Gotham City, the spawning ground of the world’s most iconic villains? And what circumstances created them – the larger-than-life personas who would become Catwoman, The Penguin, The Riddler, Two-Face and The Joker?

“Gotham” is an origin story of the great DC Comics super villains and vigilantes, revealing an entirely new chapter that has never been told. From executive producer/writer Bruno Heller (“The Mentalist,” “Rome”), “Gotham” follows one cop’s rise through a dangerously corrupt city teetering on the edge of evil and chronicles the birth of one of the most popular super heroes of our time.

Growing up in Gotham City’s surrounding suburbs, James Gordon (Ben McKenzie, “Southland,” “The O.C.”) romanticized the city as a glamorous and exciting metropolis where his late father once served as a successful district attorney. Now, two weeks into his new job as a Gotham City detective and engaged to his beloved fiancée, Barbara Kean (Erin Richards, Open Grave, “Breaking In”), Gordon is living his dream – even as he hopes to restore the city back to the pure version he remembers it was as a kid.

Brave, honest and ready to prove himself, the newly-minted detective is partnered with the brash, but shrewd police legend Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue, “Sons of Anarchy,” “Terriers,” “Vikings,” “Copper”), as the two stumble upon the city’s highest-profile case ever: the murder of local billionaires Thomas and Martha Wayne. At the scene of the crime, Gordon meets the sole survivor: the Waynes’ hauntingly intense 12-year-old son, Bruce (David Mazouz, “Touch”), toward whom the young detective feels an inexplicable kinship. Moved by the boy’s profound loss, Gordon vows to catch the killer.

As he navigates the often-underhanded politics of Gotham’s criminal justice system, Gordon will confront imposing gang boss Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith, The Matrix films, “HawthoRNe,” Collateral), and many of the characters who will become some of fiction’s most renowned, enduring villains, including a teenaged Selina Kyle/the future Catwoman (acting newcomer Camren Bicondova) and Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor, “The Walking Dead,” Another Earth).

Although the crime drama will follow Gordon’s turbulent and singular rise through the Gotham City police department, led by Police Captain Sarah Essen (Zabryna Guevara, “Burn Notice”), it also will focus on the unlikely friendship Gordon forms with the young heir to the Wayne fortune, who is being raised by his unflappable butler, Alfred (Sean Pertwee, “Camelot,” “Elementary”). It is a friendship that will last them all of their lives, playing a crucial role in helping the young boy eventually become the crusader he’s destined to be.

“Gotham” is based upon characters published by DC Comics and is produced by Warner Bros. Television. Heller wrote the pilot, which will be directed and executive-produced by Emmy Award nominee Danny Cannon (the “CSI” series, “Nikita”).
