That ‘Jumanji’ Remake Officially Has A Release Date

Yup, Sony is officially remaking “Jumanji” — and it’s your 2016 Christmas present. If you’re of the anti-remake mindset, that news may make you as angry as a troop of monkeys destroying a kitchen. But then again, it’s hard to deny that the 1995 fantasy movie could benefit from some better CGI in the remake.

On Wednesday, Sony Pictures released its film slate through 2019 with release dates for 16 new films, including the new Jumanji, Bad Boys 3 and “4,” and a new date for Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters. News of a Jumanji remake first broke in 2012 when Sony announced plans to update the Robin Williams fantasy film for the present. Now you can expect to see a modern revamp of the movie on Christmas Day in 2016 — here’s to hoping they release an updated version of the board game as well. Continue reading →

Sony Sets A Date For THE DARK TOWER

Earlier today, the folks at Sony announced release dates (and a few release date tweaks) for a slew of upcoming titles. Sixteen, all told, and a few of them are actually pretty big deals! Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters got moved up a week next July, a Jumanji remake was inexplicably announced for Christmas of next year, Edgar Wright’s Baby Driver ended up with a Spring Break release date in 2017, and – in what may well be the most elaborate bit of trolling BMD’s Stephen King fans have ever seen – The Dark Tower was dated for January 13, 2017.

Sony says the Dark Tower movie – ostensibly the first in a whole series of Dark Tower movies – will hit theaters in about a year and a half.

Allegedly, The Dark Tower opens on January 13th, 2017.

Spider-Gwen Comic Can’t Create New Characters Because Of Sony—Or Can It?

Denzel Washington’s ‘The Equalizer’ to Get Sequel

Sony has officially announced a sequel to the Denzel Washington thriller “The Equalizer.”

Rumors of an “Equalizer” follow-up began months before the R-rated auctioneer opened in September, but it was the film’s strong box office results and home entertainment sales that ultimately pulled the trigger on the second installment.

Washington is expected to reprise his role as vigilante Robert McCall in “Equalizer 2.”  Continue reading →

Marvel’s Vendetta against Fox Continues; Comic Writers No Longer Allowed to Create New X-MEN Characters; FANTASTIC FOUR Comics to End Next Year

While Sony Pictures and Marvel might be able to work out a deal to bring Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the bitter rivalry between Marvel and 20th Century Fox continues. Fox owns the screen rights to X-Men and Fantastic Four, and Marvel has retaliated by undermining those properties.  According to Marvel Comics writer Chris Claremont [via Bleeding Cool], the company has forbidden the creation of new X-Men characters because those characters could then be used by Fox.
