George Lucas Reveals Original Star Wars: Episode VII Plan, Alex Ross Comic Cover Debuts
We now know that as far back as August 2011 there were rumblings of more “Star Wars” movies in the pipeline, and when Disney announced they would acquire Lucasfilm in October 2012, they made it official. Now, in an interview with USA Today, the maestro himself George Lucas revealed that he originally thought of developing “Episode VII” himself and release it in May 2015 before selling off the company. Spider-Man’s Giant Robot Just Became Official Marvel Comics Canon
If you’ve been reading Dan Slott’s Spider-Verse saga over at Marvel Comics, you know this “Crisis on Infinite Spider-Men” has combined pretty much taken every iteration of ol’ Web-head and joined them into one epic adventure. But one specific introduction has just blown my mind.
In The Amazing Spider-Man #12, a group of Spider-heroes have collected a variety of their counterparts from a variety of Japans, including the Marvel Mangaverse Spidey as well as Yu Komori, the protagonist of the 1970s’ Spider-Man manga. But there is a third — Takuya Yamashiro, star of the Japanese live-action Spider-Man TV show from the ’70s, better known as Supaidman. And he brought a friend.
Yes, Supaidaman’s giant robot Leopardon just set foot in the official, 616 universe to join forces against Solus, a villain determined to take out every Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man in every reality. I won’t say how it goes, but I will say this — writer Dan Slott and artist Olivier Coipel are doing the Lord’s work over there.
Spider-Verse: Learn About All 38 Spider-Men, Women, Animal, Ghost, Alien, Mutant, and Armored Variants
Spider-Man is arguably the most popular Marvel character. He was the top costume among boys this Halloween with 2.6 million dressing as their beloved web-slinger. Because of the popularity of the character and how long he’s been around, many different variants have been created. To keep these different Spider-Men, women, monkey, pig, ghost, alien, mutant, and armored characters from clashing, Marvel has wisely put many of them in completely separate realities/universes.
Artist Dell’Otto created a banner with 38 of them, which I believe is all of them. Imgur user Mmmasian has created a gallery that breaks down every single one of them. This is an incredible resource and something you’ve gotta dedicate sometime to reading.
The Maestro Returns and Peter Parker is Married Again for Marvel Comics Summer 2015
Another day, another announcement for summer 2015 from Marvel Comics! As they’ve been doing for the past few weeks now, Marvel has announced the reemergence of two more famous storylines for their next event, first the Hulk-centric “Future Imperfect” and second (via EW) Spider-Man appears to be “renewing his vows.”
Originally published in 1992, “Future Imperfect” saw The Hulk go up against an alternate version of himself called the Maestro. Originating from the far future of his own timeline, Maestro lives in a world ravaged by nuclear war which has even further enhanced his gamma irradiated body but also driven him mad in the process.
The “Renew Your Vows” teaser is more interesting given the bizarre circumstances of Peter Parker’s marriage and family life in general. Parker married longtime love interest Mary Jane Watson in 1987?s The Amazing Spider-Man Annual #21, and they remained married until the very controversial “One More Day” storyline where it was dissolved following a deal with Mephisto. As for the little girl, could we be seeing the return of the young May Parker or is all of this taking place in an alternate universe?
In keeping with the other Marvel Comics announcements, these teasers appear to be tied to specific characters like the previously announced Civil War and Spider-Man, Age of Ultron Vs. Marvel Zombies and the titular robot, Years of Future Past and Kitty Pryde, Planet Hulk and Captain America, Armor Wars and Iron Man, House of M and Magneto, and countless others. The prevailing theory is that all of these comics will spin out of the recently-announced Secret Wars comic, but Marvel still has yet to confirm what it all means. Why Wolverine Can’t–And Shouldn’t–Come Back (Spoilers)
Warning: If you have not read “The Death of Wolverine #4” yet, do not read this article.
The Wolverine is dead, and he’s never coming back.
No, for real. The Death of Wolverine #4, out this week, put the final coda on Logan. And Like editor Mike Marts suggested in past interviews, Marvel sealed an airtight lid on Wolverine’s fate.
This is no metaphor. Wolverine’s death came via an adamantium bath, which when cooled, formed into the indestructible alloy. As Wolverine brought the killing blow to the creator of the Weapon X program, the adamantium sealed into a permanent cocoon.
When you sit down and really consider it, this fate doesn’t come with much of a backdoor. Once solidified, we all know that adamantium is unbreakable and impenetrable. The only thing that could breach it, The Muramasa blade, is out of the picture. Wolverine broke the mystical sword into several pieces and buried them in secret locations—information that now joins Logan in the grave.
But, even if someone could even crack open the adamantium encasing Wolverine, the man inside would just be a corpse. Death-by-adamantium does quite a number on the mortal body, and as we’ve known for months now, Wolverine is only a mortal. At the very least, he died by asphyxiation. The sentient virus from the microverse that countered Wolverine’s healing factor is still coursing through his lifeless body. And there’s no cure for it. It even stumped Reed Richards, Marvel’s brightest mind, as he struggled to find a treatment in Death of Wolverine #1.
This is comics, however, so there’s no argument against the fact that Marvel could conjure a solution multiple solutions in an instant. But it would feel beyond contrived. The publisher dug deep to find the most-fail proof deathtrap available for James Howlett. Imagine how much deeper they would have to dig to yank him out of it? Not only would it be a disservice to the readers who invested in Wolverine’s death march, but it would also come as a slap in the face to the character. He had finally made peace with his mortality. By striking every classic “Wolverine” moment off his bucket list—like fighting Sabretooth, donning the Patch persona one last time, and ending the Weapon X program that made him The Wolverine in the first place—he didn’t have much left to do but peacefully pass.
In the end, fate even granted the Wolverine his final wish. As he drew his final breathe, he watched the sun peacefully set. His arc came to a close, and it would be nothing short of a gimmick to reopen it.
JEM AND THE HOLOGRAMS Movie Has a 2015 Release Date
Universal Pictures revealed today that director Jon M. Chu‘s live-action Jem and the Holograms movie will be released on October 23rd, 2015. There’s a lot of buzz surrounding this movie, because there’s a lot of fans out there who grew up watch the 1980s Hasbro animated series.
The story “centers on an orphaned teenage girl who becomes an online recording sensation. She and her sisters embark on a music-driven scavenger hunt — one that sends them on an adventure across Los Angeles in an attempt to unlock a final message left by her father.”
The cast for the film includes Nashville actress Aubrey Peeples as the lead character Jem; Disney’s A.N.T. Farm’s Stefanie Scott as Jem’s sister, Kimber; Pretty Little Liars actress Aurora Perrineau will play Shana; and The Fosters‘ Hayley Kiyoko will take on the role of Aja. Juliette Lewis and Molly Ringwald also have roles in the movie that haven’t been revealed.
Chu is known for directing some Step Up movies, a couple of Justin Bieber documentaries, and G.I. Joe: Retaliation. I’m not really a fan of anything that he has done, but this seems like the kind of film that he would do well with.
