Earlier this morning, an unauthorized paparazzi shot of the ladies of Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters was making the rounds, so Feig did the right thing and went ahead and released an official shot of his cast in full costume.
Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones, Kristen Wiig, and Kate McKinnon look great in their updated outfits (and a much nicer Ecto-1 than the one we saw earlier this week). I know a lot of people are still angry that this movie is happening, but I have a feeling it’s going to be a lot of fun. Give him some sugar, baby, because Ash has returned after a 22-year-haitus from fighting deadites. And we’ve got your first groovy image of Bruce Campbell back as Ash right here.
Yep, Campbell will once again be playing everyone’s favorite dim-witted warrior when Starz resurrects the Evil Dead franchise this fall with 10 episodes of Ash vs Evil Dead. As you can tell from the image above, Ash (who is still a stock boy) is once again ready to face his demons, and this time he’s got two folks to help him get the job done in fellow Value Stop employees Pablo (Ray Santiago) and Kelly (Dana Delorenzo), seen above.
So what has Ash been up to for the past two decades? “Not much!” says Campbell. “He was perfectly happy doing basically nothing: telling lies about how he lost his hand in bars late at night. That was basically his MO. So, he’s not really the guy who should be dealing with this right now. But…he is. He’s our guy!”
He’s also the guy who yet again is accidently responsible for unleashing the evil dead back upon the world. “He’s the only one stupid enough to really tamper with those spirits,” says Sam Raimi, who directed the first episode of the new series. “And he does. But he’s also still a really good monster fighter. So, he’s also going to be kicking some deadite buttocks, if you’ll pardon the French.”
“It’s The Searchers with carnage and mayhem,” adds Campbell of the newest chapter in the Evil Dead saga. “I’m relegated a little bit into the John Wayne mode these days with my team—the young, virile, evil fighters who will pair up with Ash and take on this nemesis: this never ending, ever evolving nemesis.”
Writer and director Josh Boone has been hard at work developing the big screen adaptation of Stephen King’s The Stand. It looks like the project has expanded into something even more spectacular. AMC has released a promo video showcasing several of the shows that will be airing on the network in 2015. That includes our first look at some footage from “The Walking Dead” companion series “Fear the Walking Dead”. The characters that we get to see in the footage include Cliff Curtis as Sean, Kim Dickens as Madison, and Frank Dillane as her troubled son Nick, running like a bat out of hell. Continue reading
The big screen adaptation of Stephen King’s It continues to move forward with the casting of Pennywise the Clown. The coveted role of of the evil clown previously played by Tim Curry in the 1990’s TV movie goes to Will Poulter (We’re the Millers, The Maze Runner), which is a very interesting choice that I didn’t see coming. He’s a great actor, but I have no idea if he’s right for the role.
True Detective director Cary Fukunaga is helming the two-part film, which follows a group of outcast kids, who called themselves the “Losers Club,” and come together to take on the murderous monster that’s terrorizing their small town. In the process, they have to face down and battle their own personal demons.
This is such an amazing story; it’s one of the best King has ever written. With Fukunga on board to bring it to life, I know it’s in good hands. I trust he knows what he’s doing with this casting. He obviously has a certain vision for Pennywise, and it was previously reported that he was looking for the perfect actor to take on the role. It looks like they found him in Poulter.
Sources tell Variety that “Fukunaga could not say no after being blown away by Poulter’s audition for the part and felt he was the right choice for the role.” They went on to say that Poulter “is more than capable of taking on the character especially after his work on New Regency’s The Revenant, starring Leonardo DiCaprio.”
The Revenant is directed by Alejandro Gonzalez Innaritu, and Poulter plays a robber who leaves DiCaprio for dead after he is mauled in the wilderness by a bear. People who have seen early footage from the film feel that the young actor is more than ready to take on a villainous dark lead like Pennywise.
Fukunaga has been very vocal in interviews saying that his most recent script will stay true to the original story while also giving the film an updated look. The first movie will focus on the protagonists of the story as kids, and the second one revolves around them as adults.
The report says that Fukunaga has scripts done and ready to go for both films, and Poulter will star in both of them. I can’t wait to how this is going to turn out.
Another beloved manga is apparently getting a US makeover. Adam Wingard, the cult director behind indie genre gems The Guest and You’re Next, has signed on to direct Death Note, an adaptation of a horror manga being developed at Warner Bros. Continue reading
