Scarlett Johansson in Talks for Jon Favreau’s JUNGLE BOOK

Director Jon Favreau and Disney are pressing forward on their journey to develop a live-action big screen adaptation of The Jungle Book. They are looking to cast both Scarlett Johansson and Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o (12 Years a Slave). The two actresses are currently in negotiations with the studio.

If cast they will join Idris Elba (Thor) who is the only other person cast in the film at this time. He will be playing the villain Shere Khan, the man eating tiger in the live-action/CGI hybrid movie. Nyong’o would play Rakcha, a mother wolf who adopts Mowgli, Johansson would voice the character of the second villain of the film Kaa, the python who hypnotizes other animals and then eats them. The still have yet cast the lead character Mowgli.

Warner Bros. is also developing a a Jungle Book project with Andy Serkis set to direct. I’m definitely more excited for Favreau’s version, and so far it looks like he’s putting together a great cast. The movie is set to be released on October 9th, 2015.

THE HOBBIT: THE BATTLE OF FIVE ARMIES, tittle confirmed!

Peter Jackson has officially announced that the third and final film in the Hobbit trilogy will be called The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. It was originally supposed to be called The Hobbit: There and Back Again, and about a week ago a rumor hit that the movie wold be called The Hobbit: Into the Fire, but that obviously didn’t stick.

Below you’ll find the official announcement from Jackson’s Facebook page. In it he explains the reason behind the title change.

Inside Information…

Our journey to make The Hobbit Trilogy has been in some ways like Bilbo’s own, with hidden paths revealing their secrets to us as we’ve gone along. “There and Back Again” felt like the right name for the second of a two film telling of the quest to reclaim Erebor, when Bilbo’s arrival there, and departure, were both contained within the second film. But with three movies, it suddenly felt misplaced—after all, Bilbo has already arrived “there” in the “Desolation of Smaug”.

When we did the premiere trip late last year, I had a quiet conversation with the studio about the idea of revisiting the title. We decided to keep an open mind until a cut of the film was ready to look at. We reached that point last week, and after viewing the movie, we all agreed there is now one title that feels completely appropriate.

And so: “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies” it is.

As Professor Tolkien intended, “There and Back Again” encompasses Bilbo’s entire adventure, so don’t be surprised if you see it used on a future box-set of all three movies.

Before then however, we have a film to finish, and much to share with you. It’s been a nice quiet time for us—Jabez and I happily editing away in a dark cave in Wellington—but those halcyon days are quickly coming to an end. It will soon be time to step into the light. Expect to see and hear much about The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies in the coming months.
And there’s also The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug Extended Cut, which we’re in the process of finishing, with over 25 mins of new scenes, all scored with original music composed by Howard Shore.

Jem and the Holograms Movie! first image!

Although the project was only announced a month ago, the Jem and the Holograms movie is already moving forward and, in an appropriately truly outrageous move, has just revealed the first image from the Jon M. Chu film along with the names of the core cast. Aubrey Peeples will play Jem, Stefanie Scott will play Kimber, Hayley Kiyoko will play Aja and Aurora Perrineau will play Shana. Check out the tease of all four below!

Created by Christy Marx, the original “Jem and the Holograms” series was a joint collaboration from Hasbro, Marvel and Sunbow Productions. It began airing in 1985 and ran for three seasons, following the adventures of the titular Jem, the musical superstar alter ego of a young woman named Jerrica Benton who, with the help of a holographic computer called Synergy, is able to clandestinely perform rock concerts with her friends.

WARCRAFT – First Photo from the Set!!

Moon director Duncan Jones is deep into production on his epic big screen adaptation of Warcraft. Jones is the guy in the photo above, and as you can see he’s watching a couple of his actors on the monitors while they shoot a scene.

I don’t play World of Warcraft, I just don’t have the time to get sucked into that fantasy world. But, I am extremely excited for this movie! I loved the test footage that was screened at San Diego Comic-Con, and I trust that Jones is going give us something amazing. When talking about the his reaction he read the script for the first time Jones said, “It’s about both sides. It’s going to be red and blue.” He then explains that he wants the movie’s audience to “feel for the Orc heroes as much as they do the Human ones.” It will be interesting to see what kind of story he tells with this.

Warcraft stars Ben Foster, Travis Fimmel, Paula Patton, Toby Kebbell, Rob Kazinsky, Dominic Cooper, Daniel Wu, Clancy Brown. The film is set to open up on March 11th, 2016.

EVOLVE – New Trailer

When you watch the first part of this trailer, from Goliath’s perspective, you get a sense of the raw power he possesses, and the constant cat and mouse game that is played throughout a match. After viewing Goliath’s point of view initially, it was easy to forget how tense a match can be when playing as one of the various soldiers tasked with taking him down. In the interactive trailer you can switch between all 4 of the various classes to get a taste of what a match feels like, but just watch the poor trapper’s cam to see just how quickly a hunter can become prey in the world of Evolve.

 
Within 2 seconds the monster pounces, pummeling him to near death. That kind of intensity seems to permeate the entire match, and is one of the many reasons that Evolve is one of my most anticipated multiplayer games of the season. You can catch some additional screens below from Turtle Rock Studio’s upcoming title, and make sure to watch the entire trailer when you get a chance. It’s great stuff, and the commentary seals the deal.

Avengers: Age of Ultron Ant-Man

There’s been some Marvel movie talk going on recently. Director Joss Whedon is out there talking about Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Marvel studios president Kevin Fiege is talking about Ant-Man.

In an interview with Empire Magazine Whedon talks about the main villain in Age of Ultron saying that he’s “having a blast” with him. He goes on to discuss the movie, throwing all of these different superhero characters together, and Ultron.

“I fiercely dislike the idea of just throwing in more people for the sake of doing that, but last time I had all of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes versus one British character actor, and I needed more conflict. I’m having a blast with Ultron. He’s not a creature of logic – he’s a robot who’s genuinely disturbed. We’re finding out what makes him menacing and at the same time endearing and funny and strange and unexpected, and everything a robot never is.”

The director is currently shooting the film in the United Kingdom, and he discusses the location, and how it’s being utilized for the film.

“The number of different looks and textures and moods we’re getting from the British locations is stupid awesome. Because this, palette-wise, is very different. I’m trying to make a different film. Because why would you make one movie twice? That seems weird.”

I just love that he used the phrase “stupid awesome.”

In a seperate interview with the same magazine, Feige went on to talk about Ant-Man and how the development of that movie changed the direction they were taking The Avengers.

“We changed, frankly, some of the MCU to accommodate this version of Ant-Man. Knowing what we wanted to do with Edgar and with Ant-Man, going years and years back, helped to dictate what we did with the roster for Avengers the first time. It was a bit of both in terms of his idea for the Ant-Man story influencing the birth of the MCU in the early films leading up to Avengers.”

I love how they are thinking about all that interconnection stuff while they are developing their films. The fact that they are putting in the effort to make the continuity flow should make fans happy. They could easily take the lazy way out and not deal with it like all the other studios with superhero franchises. He then talks about what we can expect to see in the Ant-Man movie.

“It was two things – a story Edgar wanted to tell that we’ll see with Michael Douglas and Paul Rudd, and now we’re 11 films in, it’s looking at the characters we’ve already introduced who already have the technology and the brains to do…certain things [Laughs].

Look at that origin of the petty crook who comes into contact with a suit and does his best to make good, and then look at someone like Paul Rudd, who can do slightly unsavoury things like break into people’s houses and still be charming and who you root for and whose redemption you will find satisfaction in.”

BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN: Cyborg added to cast!

The DC Comics character Cyborg is going to be in Batman Vs. Superman, and according to Variety Warner Bros. and director Zack Snyder have cast Ray Fisher in the role. The reason you don’t recognize the name is because he’s mostly known for his theater roles including the Broadway play Fetch Clay, Make Man in which he played Muhammad Ali.

According to the report Cyborg, whose real name is Victor Stone, will have “a much more significant role as Warner and D.C. develop more films related to the Justice League universe, sources confirm.” The actor will join Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot and Jesse Eisenberg in the movie. There’s been some talk already hinting that Cyborg could be in the sequel. In a previous interview with Cavill he expressed his excitement in seeing the character introduced in the franchise.

“On the extras on the Blu-ray, we’re going to get the opportunity to see Zack’s references to other aspects of the DC Universe. There’s one obvious one which is now particularly obvious because of our next installment, which is involving Batman as well. We see Bruce Wayne Enterprises on the satellite in space. We also see some references to LexCorp. I actually have no further knowledge of this next story, but there’s a good chance Lex is going to be introduced soon or at some stage.  What really intrigued me was Dr. Emil Hamilton’s connection to S.T.A.R. Labs. Cyborg I think would make a wonderful character and an incredible bridge between both superhumans and humanity in a different way toBatman.  So I don’t know where he’s going to come in or if he’s going to come in, but that’s one I’m particularly excited about. Other references I’m not too sure on, but we’ll see where those lead. Those with keen eyes will see them.”

Marvel Comics Plans the ‘Death of Wolverine’ This September

Marvel Comics (via EW) has announced this morning that come this September, everyone’s favorite X-Man won’t be around any longer, as the legendary Wolverine will be kicking the bucket. Already robbed of his healing factor in the monthly “Wolverine” title, the events of the past year will come to a head in a four-issue mini-series titled “Death of Wolverine” from writer Charles Soule and artist Steve McNiven.

“For a long time, no matter who Wolverine was battling, he’s been the eternal victor,” executive editor Michael Marts said. “He almost always comes out on top. Now he finally comes up against an adversary that he cannot win against, he cannot fight. What does that mean for this character who’s been around for hundred years?”

“He’s reflecting on his own life as he’s reflecting on his own death,” Soule said about the character. “We wanted to have the reader do that at the same time. In each issue, we’re focusing on a different aspect, or a different quintessential Wolverine.”

The first issue will be released on September 3rd with the remaining three issues to hit stands for the rest of September. Check out the first page of the first issue, along with the cover art, below!

How Disney Turns Boba Fett into a Hero?

None of them have been officially announced yet, but it’s a good bet that everyone’s favorite intergalactic bounty hunter Boba Fett is one of them.

Now, Boba Fett is a deadly menacing character that you don’t want to cross. He’s a villain in the Star Wars universe, and is also one of the greatest villains ever created for film. I think it’s safe to assume that all Star Wars fan love him, and that’s because he’s a freakin’ badass.

There’s a rumor going around that Disney and Lucasfilm have been discussing the character, and that they don’t know how to adapt him for the big screen. Why? Because he is considered a dark and deadly individual, and Disney isn’t known for their “Dark” and “Deadly” movies. Here is what MakingStarWars.net reports was discussed in a recent “secret” meeting.

“Lucasfilm wants Boba Fett to remain menacing and scary but we have to make him the hero of the film and it is a real challenge.”

There’s no guarantee that this statement is true, but it does raise an interesting concern for the studio. This is something that the studios are going to have to deal with if they do give the character his own film. We already have a backstory for the character given to us in the Star Wars prequel. Part of that included watching his dad’s head get cut off by Mace Windu. That’s something that’ll screw a kid up! There’s so much that happened between then and Empire Strikes Back though to work with, and the sky’s the limit to what kind of story that they want tell.

I don’t think it would be that hard to make him an anti-hero. He’s a bounty hunter, so he would take a job from anyone for money. They all don’t necessarily have to bad. For example, what if he found himself in a situation that involves finding a little kid who was kidnapped, and hunting down the kidnappers. Even though he’s a dangerously savage character, a job like this could show us different emotions from him that we’ve never seen before. Maybe he could relate to what the kid is going through, with his own past experiences. This is just one example of several examples that could be used to bring some humanity into the character, and still be able to keep him threatening.

Hell, Disney seems ok with making villain movies anyway! They have Maleficent coming out, as well as a Cruella DaVille film in development, and even Wreck-it-Ralph was a bad guy… sort of. I personally think that Maleficent is one of the most insane and evil villains ever though, so if they can give that character a movie, I don’t see why they couldn’t find a way to deal with the Fett. Maleficent is way a darker character than Fett is, but Fett is definitely cooler.

The movie is either being written by Simon Kinberg or Lawrence Kasdan. Either way, I’m sure they are collaborating with each other though on whatever Star Wars projects they have been given to work on. If they haven’t been able to figure out how to make a Boba Fett movie yet, I’m sure they will. And when they do I’m confident that they will keep that hardcore evilness within him. That’s something you just can’t take away from Fett. if they do the fans will tear Disney and Lucasfilm apart. They don’t want to piss off the fans.
