Casting Breakdown for Supergirl TV Series Reveals New Details

https://i2.wp.com/cdn1-www.superherohype.com/assets/uploads/2014/09/supergirl-header2.jpg?w=584

Back in September, it was revealed that not only was a “Supergirl” TV series in development but that CBS had ordered a series commitment for DC Entertainment’s latest series. Now, TVLine brings word on the first casting breakdown for the show that not only points to this version of Kara, but also a new character created for the show.

According to the outlet, the producers are searching for “Caucasian females, age 22 to 26, to play 24? for the role of Kara Zor-El or Kara Danvers (a reference to the “Linda Danvers” version of the character no doubt) as she will be called on Earth. The site notes that  “as the series’ mythology goes, Kara at age 12 was sent from her dying home planet of Krypton to Earth, where she was taken in by the Danvers, a foster family who taught her to be careful with her extraordinary powers. After repressing said skills for more than a decade, Kara is forced to bust out her super moves in public during an unexpected disaster. Energized by her heroism for the first time in her life, she begins embracing her abilities in the name of helping the people of her city, earning herself a super moniker along the way.”

Another character included in the breakdown, though, is Kara’s foster sister Alexandra “Alex” Danvers, who is described as “Kara’s gorgeous, brilliant, science-minded foster sister. Growing up, Alex was partly jealous of her sibling yet also fascinated by her abilities, prompting Alex to learn as much as she could about alien anthropology, sociology and culture. Today, Alex works for a secret government organization and, alongside her heroic sis, will face many challenges, both mundane and super.”

Greg Berlanti of “Arrow” and “The Flash” will be teaming up with “Chuck” and “No Ordinary Family” producer Ali Adler to write and executive produce the series.

Possible Plot Details for THE MUMMY Remake Revealed

After seeing what Universal Pictures did to Dracula in Dracula: Untold, I’m not really all that excited about what they plan on doing with the rest of their monster franchises. The studio is creating a connected universe for all of these creatures, and they aren’t really off to a good start. That movie was retroactively fit into this universe.

The next movie they release in the series will be The Mummy, which is being directed by Alex Kurtzman. Up until this point we’ve known very little about the direction that they are going to take the movie, but some rumored plot details have surfaced at Superhero Movie News. This gives us a sense of what we could expect to see.

The story follows Navy Seal Tyler Colt and his mission in the Iraqi dessert to find a group of terrorists hiding out in a bunker. To him and his teams[sic] surprise the terrorists within the bunker turn out be nothing more then[sic] some grave robbers who have all magically died. Upon entering the bunker Tyler and his team also succumb to some mystical forces out of their control. They soon realize the bunker they have infiltrated is actually a centuries old tomb. Mayhem erupts as all the Navy seal members start turning on one another and are captivated by the forces within the tomb. Tyler is the only one to make it all the way deep within the tomb alive to find an Black Iron Sarcophagus[sic]. It’s marked with Egyptian symbols like the Ankh and Eye of Horus. Here Tyler is entranced by the forces to open up and release what is inside. But after placing his hand onto the sarcophagus he is immediately stabbed in the palm with a star shaped symbol. From then on his mind is cursed with visions of Ashurbanipal, King of Assyria…..The Mummy.

X-Wing, Tie Fighter Are FINALLY Getting Re-Releases

X-Wing, Tie Fighter Are FINALLY Getting Re-Releases [Update: Out Now]

Jeez, it only took decades, but two of the finest space combat games – not to mention best Star Wars games – of all time are about to get a re-release.

Special downloadable versions of both X-Wing and Tie Fighter will soon be released on Good Old Games. They’ll be $10 each.

For that price you’re getting not just the special editions of the games (which had slightly higher resolutions and improved sound, as well all of both games’ expansions), but more importantly they’ll be editions of the games that will run on a modern PC without the need to tinker.

The Special Edition offered here, includes Star Wars™: TIE Fighter and Star Wars™: TIE Fighter – Defender of the Empire, both in the 1994 and 1998 versions!

The Special Edition offered here, includes Star Wars: X-Wing Collector’s CD-ROM and both Tour of Duty expansions: Imperial Pursuit and B-Wing.

It’s crazy that it’s taken this long. These games were two of the giants of PC gaming in the 1990s, and from the mission design to the combat still hold up very well today. If you’ve never played either of them, but keep hearing people like me blabbing on about how fucking fantastic they were/are, this is going to be $10 well spent.

Note that the announcement of both games comes via a GoG forum notice, which spilled the beans a little early. Similar postings reveal other classic Lucasarts games will also be coming to GoG, such as Fate of Atlantis, KOTOR and Sam & Max (though of course they’re exciting, since they’ve long been available on services like Steam).

Given the timing of the posting, it looks like both X-Wing and Tie Fighter will be available as early as tomorrow.

Both games are now out. You can get X-Wing here, and Tie Fighter here.

Avengers Roster Confirmed To Be Altered By End Of Age Of Ultron

Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has confirmed that the Avengers roster will be changed by the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron.

The confirmation came in a statement where Feige was equating the Avengers films to Marvel crossover event comics.

“The Avengers films, ideally, in the grand plan are always big, giant linchpins,” says Feige. “It’s like as it was in publishing, when each of the characters would go on their own adventures and then occasionally team up for a big, 12-issue mega-event. Then they would go back into their own comics, and be changed from whatever that event was. I envision the same thing occurring after this movie, because the [Avengers] roster is altered by the finale of this film.”

This lines up with rumors that have suggested a new team of Avengers will be revealed in the film’s post-credits scene, possibly a splinter team aligned with Captain America ahead of the upcoming Civil War.

Of course, the addition of Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch to the team by the movie’s end would constitute an “altering” of the team’s lineup, but it seems like he’s hinting at something more than simple expansion.

Avengers: Age of Ultron opens in theaters May 1, 2015.

Marvel in Negotiations with Benedict Cumberbatch to Play DOCTOR STRANGE!

http://static.squarespace.com/static/51b3dc8ee4b051b96ceb10de/t/544e9a09e4b0399666bb2e95/1414437387072/Marvel%20in%20Negotiations%20With%20Benedict%20Cumberbatch%20to%20Play%20DOCTOR%20STRANGE!1?format=500w

It looks like Marvel has finally chosen an actor to playDoctor Strange in the Scott Derrickson directed film. After years of rumors, lists and speculation, Deadline reports that Benedict Cumberbatch is their man!

Over the last four years, there have been eighteen actors rumored for the coveted role, and Cumberbatch was among them. Joaquin Phoenix was in discussions for the part for awhile, but the talks eventually fizzled and the actor dropped out. Marvel had to go back to square one when that happened. Now they are back on track and ready to move forward.

The report says that the studio is about to start the negotiation process, which means both parties are interested in sealing the deal. Deadline also says they expect the deal to close, so I guess we can too.

Doctor Strange is based on the character created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, and he made his first appearance in 1963’s “Strange Tales” #110. Strange was a brilliant neurosurgeon, but after a car accident, he loses the precision in his hands, and he goes on a quest to regain his former skills. This leads him on a path to becoming the “Master of the Mystic Arts.”

Ever since Cumberbatch was first rumored to be up for the Sorcerer Supreme,  Are you excited to hear that Cumberbatch will be playing Stephen Strange?

Gripping Red Band Teaser for Rupert Wyatt’s THE GAMBLER

http://static.squarespace.com/static/51b3dc8ee4b051b96ceb10de/t/5447fb69e4b062003adea7a1/1414003573958/?format=750w

Did seeing Mark Wahlberg as a (pretty lame ass) inventor running around with robots and his over sexualized underage daughter in Transformers: Age of Extinction leave a bad taste in your mouth? You can either cleanse that palette by grabbing a bite at Wahlburgers, or you can watch this intense teaser trailer for the actor’s new film The Gambler. The red band teaser sets up a really promising, high-stakes drama. Director Rupert Wyatt looks to have done an amazing job on his first feature since walking away from the Planet of the Apes franchise he successfully rebooted with Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

Paramount Pictures is placing their bets on this new film, and hoping to walk away with some Oscars. They’ve got some pretty good odds too. The script for the remake of the 1974 James Caan film comes from screenwriter William Monahan, who took home an Academy Award for adapting the The Departed, the film that earned Wahlberg an Oscar nod for Best Supporting Actor. They’ve also got a stellar supporting cast whose roles are explained in this official synopsis:

Jim Bennett (Academy Award®-nominee Mark Wahlberg) is a risk taker. Both an English professor and a high-stakes gambler, Bennett bets it all when he borrows from a gangster (Michael Kenneth Williams) and offers his own life as collateral. Always one step ahead, Bennett pits his creditor against the operator of a gambling ring (Alvin Ing) and leaves his dysfunctional relationship with his wealthy mother (Academy Award®-winner Jessica Lange) in his wake. He plays both sides, immersing himself in an illicit, underground world while garnering the attention of Frank (John Goodman), a loan shark with a paternal interest in Bennett’s future. As his relationship with a student (Brie Larson) deepens, Bennett must take the ultimate risk for a second chance…

The Gambler rolls into theaters December 19th (USA).

James Cameron on His Big Contribution to TERMINATOR GENISYS

http://static.squarespace.com/static/51b3dc8ee4b051b96ceb10de/t/54458849e4b026d1c3c79d1a/1413843019718/james-cameron-on-his-big-contribution-to-terminator-genysis?format=750w

A few months ago, Terminator creator and mastermind James Cameron revealed that he was loosely attached to the upcoming Terminator Genisys film. It was just an advisory role for him, but it seems like he played a decent sized role in developing the story that we are going to see unfold. In a recent interview with Deadline he reveals what what his big and awesome contribution was.

“I wasn’t interested in producing it or working on it actively, but I did want to put in a good word for Arnold. I pointed out that the outer covering (of the Terminator) was actually not synthetic, that it was organic and therefore could age. You could theoretically have a Terminator that was sent back in time, missed his target, and ended up just kind of living on in society. Because he is a learning computer and has a brain as a central processor he could actually become more human as he went along without getting discovered.”

That’s such a damn cool concept, and it explains how Schwarzenegger comes back as an older cyborg. In a separate interview with Empire, the director talks about why he’s not worried about this new Terminator movie.

“It’s not my problem! It’s like being a grandparent, the kids come over and you can send them back! When I walked away from the franchise, I had to do it with the sense that I can invest in emotion. To me, it’s all upside, because if it’s good, it’s good for Arnold [Schwarzenegger], my friend Laeta [Kalogridis] and if it’s not good? It doesn’t bother me personally.”

He does say that he hopes it will turn out to be a great film, though.

“I’m hoping it’s great. I’d like them to get it right, and based on the script that I read there’s a pretty good chance that it could. It looks like it could be fun.”

As a fan of this franchise, that’s encouraging to hear. That statement actually boosts my excitement for the movie a little bit. On another note, there’s a chance that one day the rights to the Terminator franchise will revert back to Cameron, and if that happens, the director isn’t counting out the opportunity to come back and reinvent the franchise. Here’s what he had to says:

“I haven’t really thought that far ahead yet. I’ve got plenty of time to think about it. It might be fun to completely re-invent the franchise. A lot has to do with what happens with it in the meantime, people may have Terminator fatigue.”

As long as Cameron is the one making the Terminator films I won’t have “Terminator fatigue.” Terminator: Genisys stars Emilia Clarke as Sarah Connor, Jai Courtney as Kyle Reese, Jason Clarke as John Connor, Dayo Okeniyi as Danny Dyson, and Arnold Schwarzenegger, who returns as T-800. The movie also includes Doctor Who’s Matt Smith and G.I. Joe: Retaliation’s Byung-hun Lee. The film will be released in theaters on July 1st, 2015.
