Stephen King Explains Why He Hates THE SHINING

https://i1.wp.com/static.squarespace.com/static/51b3dc8ee4b051b96ceb10de/t/523cb1e7e4b097504acd02d4/1379709419445/stephen-king-explains-why-he-still-hates-stanley-kubricks-the-shining-header.jpg?resize=462%2C343

It’s no secret that Stephen King doesn’t like Stanley Kubrick‘s big screen adaptation of The Shining. Even 33 years after the film’s release nothing has changed. King still hates the film, and in a recent interview with the BBC, the master of horror explains why.

“[It’s] cold, I’m not a cold guy. I think one of the things people relate to in my books is this warmth, there’s a reaching out and saying to the reader, ‘I want you to be a part of this.’ With Kubrick’s The Shining I felt that it was very cold, very ‘We’re looking at these people, but they’re like ants in an anthill, aren’t they doing interesting things, these little insects.’

He didn’t really seem to care for Jack Nicholson‘s portrayal of Jack either:

“Jack Torrance in the movie, seems crazy from the jump. Jack Nicholson, I’d seen all his biker pictures in the ’50s and ’60s and I thought, he’s just channeling The Wild Angels here.”

King got The Wild Angels movie mixed up with Hells Angels on Wheels. It’s not big deal, I just wanted to point that out in case there was any confusion because Nicholson wasn’t in Wild Angels. King then went on to talk about how much he disliked Kubrick’s depiction of Wendy.

“Shelley Duvall as Wendy is really one of the most misogynistic characters ever put on film, she’s basically just there to scream and be stupid and that’s not the woman that I wrote about.”

I personally think Kubrick’s Shining is a freakin’ great horror film, and even though it was different from the book, I still thought it was amazing. I liked it just as much as the book, but in different ways. I can understand why King wouldn’t like it though, it was his baby, and Kubrick just did his own thing.

What do you think, does King makes some good points here?

Ridley Scott Gives Updates on BLADE RUNNER and PROMETHEUS Sequels

http://static.squarespace.com/static/51b3dc8ee4b051b96ceb10de/t/54230017e4b0b61107537f6a/1411579928301/ridley-scott-gives-update-on-blade-runner-and-prometheus-sequels?format=750w

Director Ridley Scott is currently preparing to direct his two big sci-fi fi sequels, Blade Runner 2 and Prometheus 2. While speaking to Yahoo about his upcoming movie, Exodus: Gods and Kings, he also offered an update on the other two projects.

The last we heard on Blade Runner 2 was that the director said the script was “damn good,” and that he would shoot the film when he’s done with The Martian. Here’s what he had to say in his most recent interview:

“It’s on the charts, can’t say when that would be yet, because of [Ford’s] thing with ‘Star Wars’. It’s a sequel – it’s what happens next. It’s quite surprisingly clever.”

I  would like to see another film,  lets see what happens. He went on to give a more detailed update on Prometheus 2 saying:

“Right now, as we speak, it’s being written. I’ve had 15 drafts evolving. I definitely want to do that again because I really enjoyed doing Prometheus.”

Well, that’s interesting. He’s had 15 drafts of the scripts so far… I’m not sure if that’s a good or bad thing. He went on to address the mixed reviews of Prometheus and the lack of recognizable monsters, saying:

“The beast is done. Cooked. I got lucky meeting Giger all those years ago. It’s very hard to repeat that. I just happen to be the one who forced it through because they said it’s obscene. They didn’t want to do it and I said, ‘I want to do it, it’s fantastic’. But after four (he has conveniently forgotten the ‘AvP’ movies), I think it wears out a little bit. There’s only so much snarling you can do. I think you’ve got to come back with something more interesting. And I think we’ve found the next step. I thought the Engineers were quite a good start.”

As for what audiences can expect to see in the sequel, he said:

“You’ll probably have to go with [Noomi Rapace’s Elizabeth Shaw] and [Michael Fassbender’s android David] without his head. Find out how he gets his head back on!”

I disliked prometheus.  Was not happy with the storyline  or the  plot or the ending!  I expected more  I know many were disappointed with it as well!  I hope they can fix alot of this in the new movie!

Watch: ‘Popeye’ Is Pipe-Less, Tattoo-Less in Sony Animation Test

Popeye1Sony has given audiences an early look at Genndy Tartakovsky’s “Popeye.”

CGI-animated test footage, which won’t appear in the film, shows a pipe-less, tattoo-less Popeye fighting Bluto to save his beloved Olive Oyl. The clip follows a behind-the-scenes video of Tartakovsky at work adapting “Popeye” for the bigscreen and discussing why he was “destined” to make the film.

The cast hasn’t been announced yet so Tartakovsky used temp voices for the test footage.

After starting his career in TV animation with “Dexter’s Laboratory” and “Samurai Jack,” Tartakovsky made his feature film directorial debut in 2012 with “Hotel Transylvania.” He’s also directing a sequel for the film (also from Sony Pictures Animation), which will bow on Sept. 25, 2015.

Meanwhile, “Popeye” hits theaters in 2016.

X-Men Spinoff ‘Deadpool’ to Hit Theaters Feb. 12, 2016

Deadpool Ryan Reynolds X-Men Origins WolverineThe talkative mercenary character, also known as Wade Wilson, was created by artist Rob Liefeld and writer Fabian Nicieza. He first appeared in print in 1991.

If Reynolds does reprise his role in the film it would mark his first superhero project since “Green Lantern,” which floundered at the box office in 2011.

On Thursday, Fox also took “Assassin’s Creed” out of its Aug. 7, 2015, slot and moved its “Fantastic Four” reboot into the date from June 19. The studio did not set a new date for “Assassin’s Creed,” based on a Ubisoft videogame and starring Michael Fassbender.
Additionally, the studio moved its young-adult drama “Paper Towns,” adapted from the John Green novel, from July 31, 2015, to June 19.

“Deadpool” is the fourth film to be set for the Feb. 12, 2016, date along with Lionsgate’s “Gods of Egypt,” Universal’s untitled animated pets project and Warner’s romantic comedy “How to Be Single.”

SUPERGIRL TV Series Lands at CBS

http://static.squarespace.com/static/51b3dc8ee4b051b96ceb10de/t/541c5a05e4b0d5fed943fc3c/1411144200653/supergirl-tv-series-lands-at-cbs?format=750w

That Supergirl TV series we’ve been hearing about that is being developed by Arrow‘s Greg Berlanti has landed at CBS. According to Deadline, the deal closed last night, which is only one day after the project was taken out to the broadcast networks. They must have put together an impressive package, but Supergirl really does have the makings of a successful show if done right.

The series will center on Kara Zor-El, Superman’s cousin, “who was born on the planet Krypton and escaped amid its destruction years ago. Since arriving on Earth, she has been hiding the powers she shares with her famous cousin. But now at age 24, she decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be.”

The character was previously played by Laura Vandervoort on The CW’s Superman origin series Smallville. I’m happy to see that the new DC Comics series is moving forward, and I’m really curious to see how they bring the character to life in it.

Disney Casts Pete in PETE’S DRAGON Remake

http://static.squarespace.com/static/51b3dc8ee4b051b96ceb10de/t/541ca78be4b000f167feb89c/1411164045051/disney-casts-pete-in-petes-dragon-remake?format=750w

It was announced last year that Disney would be remaking their classic live-action animated hybrid film, Pete’s Dragon. The production has taken a step forward today with the casting of a young actor named Oakes Fegley who will play Pete in the story. They’ve also cast Oona Laurence, who will play Pete’s friend.

David Lowery (Them Bodies Saints) is set to direct from a script he co-wrote with Toby Halbrooks. According to Variety, the story will be a reinvention of the 1977 film, and it will obviously revolve around Pete and his best friend Elliot, who happens to be a dragon. The first movie was also a musical, but this new film won’t include that musical aspect. With the technology we have today to bring these fantasy creatures to life, I’m curious to see what the design will look like for the dragon.

I haven’t watched Pete’s Dragon since I was a little kid. I can barely remember it, so maybe it’s time I sit down and watch it with the kids.

I was a fan i would like to see what can be done with this to upgrade it!

That DEADPOOL Movie We Are All Excited About Will Be PG-13

http://static.squarespace.com/static/51b3dc8ee4b051b96ceb10de/t/541dc87de4b09b50ed9c4ef6/1411238014267/that-deadpool-movie-we-were-all-excited-about-will-be-pg-13?format=750w

Earlier this week it was officially announced that FOX will release the long-awaited Deadpool movie on February 12th, 2016. This is something fans have been waiting to see for years, and it’s exciting to know that it’s actually going to happen, but that comes with a price.

Apparently, the reason FOX gave the movie the green light was because the script was re-purposed by director Tim Miller to fit a PG-13 rating. The studio wouldn’t have made the movie otherwise. The news comes from In the latest edition of Schmoes Know‘s “Meet the Movie Press” podcast, and this is what was said:

“I heard from the director that they finally figured out the script, and it was right before this was announced, that they figured out, and you guys are all gonna hate this, they figured out how to make it PG-13. And therefore ‘not lose its soul,’ and that’ a quote, of the script so that they can make it.”

I know this is a total bummer because we all know that Deadpool is a very rated ‘R’ character, and it’s hard to imagine that they can fully realize this character in PG-13. Hell, even Wolverine hasn’t been fully realized on film yet! He’s a rated R character too. Even if Marvel owned the rights to Deadpool, though, it’s not like they would make a rated R Deadpool movie, especially since it’s a Disney brand. FOX was really our one shot at that rated R film we were all hoping for, but it’s not going to happen. This hasn’t been confirmed, but knowing the history of trying to get this movie made over the last few years it makes sense that this would be the case.

I’m still excited for the movie, just not as much as I was. They say it won’t lose “its soul” in the process, but they obviously had to make sacrifices to tone it down for a PG-13 rating. If you look on the bright side though, at least we are going to get to see a Deadpool movie. In the end you just have to ask yourself… would you rather have no Deadpool movie or a PG-13 Deadpool movie?

New flash and arrow action figures!

You’re gonna have to wait 7 months if you want this Flash action figure

It’s only a couple more weeks until The Flash lands on The CW – and we’re pretty excited for it. But if you were looking forward to having the TV version of Barry Allen kicking around on your shelf or on your desk… you’ll be waiting a while. A while that’s totally inappropriate for a toy based on the fastest man alive.

DC unveiled it’s host of 2015 toy solicitations for preorder today, among them this fabulous 6.75″ scale figure of Grant Gustin’s Flash:

You're gonna have to wait 7 months if you want this Flash action figuret’s a really nice figure, capturing not just the look of the show’s suit brilliantly, but Gustin himself. But why on earth is it not coming out until April 2015, far after The Flash’s first season has ended, instead of, you know… when it’s on TV and people are excited about the Flash?

What makes it more bizarre is the fact that the same figure was given a sneak presale at San Diego Comic Con earlier this year to tie in with The CW’s screening of the Pilot episode at the Convention. So instead of having a Flash figure out when The Flash is running on TV (and hopefully continuing to be as good as it looks), toy fans can only get themselves a mini Barry Allen of their own either months before the show is on, or months after. Bravo, DC. Bravo.
