Halo TV series confirmed, as Xbox programming announced!

Just as Netflix thought they had the whole ‘produce-high-quality-entertainment-and-distribute-it-yourself-online’ market sewn up, Microsoft come in and blow a hole in their plan a giant ringworld wide. The computing giant has announced that not only will we soon be seeing the Steven Spielberg produced Halo TV series, but a whole lot more besides.

The company has just revealed their first lineup of ‘Xbox Originals’ – their answer to the original entertainment programming of Netflix – and revealed that they intend to offer what they call ‘interactive entertainment’, as opposed to the passive, sedentary sort of stuff we’ve been raised on up till now.

The most exciting part of the announcement for most was likely the confirmation a Halo TV adaptation will indeed soon be on its way – the Spielberg produced series has already been rumored to have acquired Neill Blomkamp as a director. We’ll also definitely be seeing that Ridley Scott produced animated adaptation, too, apparently – which is now looking like a feature film rather than a TV series.

There’s other exciting news, though – Jonathan and Simon ‘Searching for Sugar Man‘ Chinn will bring a series of documentaries, Signal to Noise, “about technology’s impact on the world” to the new media platform, including one that will be of particular interest to fans of famously lost Atari cartridges.

Soccer fans will get Every Street United, a reality series focusing on street-soccer players. Music fans will be seeing two live streams of footage from Bonnaroo in June. Robot Chicken fans will have a new series featuring 3D animated characters, named Extraordinary Believers.

There’ll be shows competing more directly with Netflix and the like, too. The Jash project, an as-yet-unnamed comedy show starring Sarah Silverman and Michael Cera is sure to set many hearts a-flutter. Humans, a UK co-produced adaptation of a Swedish series to do with life-like robot servants will be similarly eagerly anticipated, and with comparisons to both The Killing and Downton Abbey easily raised, it’ll be hoping for similar crossover success.

And biggest of all? The creative team have teased that we might yet see franchises like Gears of War, Fable and Forza Motorsport come to the screen.

It’s all big, potentially industry re-defining news. There’s no doubt that a major games player like Microsoft entering the television market will be of serious concern to the likes of Netflix, HBO and the already struggling major networks – and if they can lead off successfully with as established and long-awaited a franchise as Halo, who knows what they could go on to do?

It also allows us to begin to ask some big questions about the Halo adaptation itself. Can we expect to see Spielberg (and possibly Blomkamp) heavily involved, or will they take on a more advisory role? Could the ‘interactive entertainment’ Microsoft is pitching allow us to feel as though we’re genuinely part of a television series for the first time – perhaps even integrating a simultaneously launched game? And, of course, who will take on the – presumably largely just a voice part – of Master Chief? Since the hero could well be entirely hidden by armor for much of the series, can we expect to see a major name take on the part?

Are Disney planning on turning Boba Fett into a hero?

When you think Boba Fett, what comes to mind? Bounty Hunter – definitely. Horrible death in a Sarlacc pit – depends on who you ask. Awesome suit – absolutely. Hero? Not so much.

If rumors coming out of Disney are to be believed, however, the legendary Mandalorian’s spin-off movie could pitch him as being very much on the heroic side of anti-hero. Disney are reportedly having trouble with making the character suitably dark, whilst also an accessible leading man, which may lead to a more heroic Fett.

Makingstarwars.net quotes a Disney insider as saying:

“Lucasfilm wants Boba Fett to remain menacing and scary but we have to make him the hero of the film and it is a real challenge.”

All of which could turn out to be much ado about nothing – the popularity of Judge Dredd, Wolverine and even Han Solo proves that a darker hero is possible, and Loki hasn’t exactly struggled within the Marvel Universe for being a villain – but would certainly fit with a lot of fears regarding the ‘Disney-fication’ of the much loved Star Wars franchise. Should we expect to see Boba Fett hogtied to a more moral bounty hunting lifestyle than we’ve been expecting?

What do you think about making bobba fett into a good guy? we want to know!

Warner Bros. Reportedly Developing 9 Additional DC Comics Movies

Warner Bros. Reportedly Developing 9 Additional DC Comics for the Big Screen

This weekend The Wall Street Journal dropped a bombshell on us when they revealed that director Zack Snyder would be stepping behind the camera for the long-rumored Justice League movie, which will follow the upcoming Batman vs. Superman. Now, in a piece on Warner Bros.’ attempts to cash in on their DC properties, the outlet reports that the company has nine additional films based on DC comics in development for the big screen.

Among those titles are the big screen adaptations of Sandman with Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Fables with A Royal Affair director Nikolaj Arcel attached. What the remaining titles could be remains to be seen. Wonder Woman? Aquaman? Another attempt at Green Lantern? It seems unlikely, but perhaps the studio will announce something at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. What DC comics do you want to see on the big screen?

WB’s next DC-based film, Batman vs. Superman, is scheduled for release on May 6, 2016.

It’s no secret that Sony Pictures is looking to expand their big screen Spider-Man Universe and have already set The Cabin in the Woods‘ Drew Goddard to write and direct the bad guy ensemble, The Sinister Six. Now, we’ve got our first hint as to exactly which supervillains are likely to be included in the lineup!

As The Sinister Six spins out of the events of this week’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2, please be aware the following update contains minor spoilers.

Although The Amazing Spider-Man 2‘s post-credits are dedicated to teasing the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past, the credits themselves are fully grounded in the Spidey-verse. Sony and Shazam have today revealed a special promotion whereby users can Shazam the end credits song to have a copy of the credits (minus the titles) delivered to their mobile devices. We’ve done exactly that and captured the six different teaser images that you can inspect below.

From the looks of things, The Sinister Six lineup is likely to include the Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, Rhino, Vulture, Kraven the Hunter and Mysterio (or, perhaps, the Chameleon).

You can check out the images in motion yourself by Shazaming the end credits song, “It’s On Again,” by Alicia Keys (featuring Kendrick Lamar) when you check out The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in theaters Thursday, May 1.

Trailer for Bungie’s DESTINY features 7-Minutes of Cool Gameplay

Bungie released a new PS4 trailer for their epic looking new first-person shooter Destiny, and it features 7-minutes of really gameplay footage. I’ve been hearing from a lot of sites that the game is boring, but I think it looks like it will be fun to play. I enjoy playing these types of games so I won’t let the bad press sway my excitement for it.

Destiny is set seven hundred years into the future in a post-apocalyptic setting following a prosperous period of exploration, peace and technological advancement known as the Golden Age. In a universe where humans have spread out and colonized planets in the Solar System, an event known as “the Collapse” saw the mysterious dissolution of these colonies, the end of the Golden Age, and mankind teetering on the brink of extinction. The only known survivors of the Collapse are those living on Earth, who were saved by “the Traveler”, a white, spherical celestial body whose appearance centuries before had enabled humans to reach the stars. The Traveler now hovers above the last remaining human city, and its presence allows the “Guardians of the City”—the last defenders of the human race—the ability to wield an unknown power.

Upon mankind’s first attempt to repopulate and reconstruct after the Collapse, it is discovered that hostile alien races have occupied mankind’s former colonies and civilizations and are now encroaching upon the City. The player takes on the role of a Guardian of the City, and is tasked with investigating and destroying these threats before humanity is completely wiped out.

Destiny will hit shelves on September 9th for PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.

ASSASSIN’S CREED Movie Moves Forward with a Director

New Regency has slowly been moving forward with Ubisoft’s big screen adaptation of Assassin’s Creed that is set to star Michael Fassbender. They are currently in talks with Justin Kurzel to direct the film. Kurzel recently directed an adaptation of Macbeth, which starred Fassbender. The actor obviously enjoyed working with him, and I’m sure he’s using his producing power to help him get the gig.

I have no idea how good of a director Kurzel is, He hasn’t done much, and I’m not familiar with anything that he has made. The last thing we heard about the project was that writers Bill Collage and Adam Cooper (Accepted) were brought on to write a script that would weave together the tale for the freerunning assassin.

Even though the film has a director, it’s been said that Ubisoft will maintain control of key elements of the movie’s creative direction. I’m sure the studio will want to stay close to the story of the video game, which centers on a bartender who is captured by a secret corporation with ties to the Knights Templar, and learns his ancestors were trained assassins. He’s then sent back in time to kick some ass and retrieve historical artifacts.

Other directors that were up for the job included Daniel Espinosa (Safe House) and Garreth Evans (The Raid). Oh, how I wish Evans would have been the one to direct this movie. It’s really sad that it won’t happen, he could have done amazing things with Assassin’s Creed. Hopefully Kurzel has what it takes to make this movie awesome.

What are your thoughts are you a fan?

Is there a future for an x-men tv show?

Some of the shows that are being developed for TV these days are just as awesome as what we are seeing in the movies. Sometimes the series are even better. The stuff we see on TV is getting bigger and better with shows like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Arrow, Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead and The upcoming four Marvel Netflix series. It seems like FOX could easily throw a live-action X-Men series into the mix if they wanted too. I’m actually surprised that it hasn’t been done already.

In a recent interview with collider X-Men screenwriter and producer Simon Kinberg says that the studio is figuring things out when it comes to a TV series, but he does say that it makes sense.

We’re still in this place of figuring out what the future of the franchise will be, but when you look at S.H.I.E.L.D. to some extent and what Marvel is doing now with Daredevil and other shows on Netflix, it makes sense to tell some of these stories in TV. Partly because there’s just not enough screens to do all these characters, and also because the serialized format of comic books is better suited for TV.  Because that’s it, every week you come back to the same characters different story, and in comic books every week it’s the same characters, different story.

I think what [Fox is] seeing now is with the proliferation of new kinds of visual and special effects, there’s a way to make these stories that doesn’t cost $300 million every time you have to make a huge movie.

I think an X-Men series would be incredibly cool. There are so many directions that they could take the show. It doesn’t sound like it will happen anytime soon, but the studio would be stupid if they didn’t do it. I would like to see a weekly show done what are your thoughts on this idea?

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2: The Development of The New Suit

MTV was able to do an interview with costume designer Deborah Lynn Scott about the new suit in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. I liked elements of the previous suit like the texture, the inset web, and pattern design. While the old suit was received with largely mixed reactions, the new one is far more iconic and loved instantly by nearly everyone due to the key improvement of the eyes.

Scott Via MTV:
“The eyes are the major difference in the costume,”

“The brief from Marc was to make them as large as possible,”

“Having said that, you have to work within the framework of Andrew Garfield’s head.”

“We found that some of our eye designs would make him look concerned or angry, just in the slightest bit,”

Jose Fernandez of Ironhead Studios and his team created about 25 to 30 suits for the film.

I’m sure we’ll see minor modifications to the suit in future films that show Peter Parker’s internal evolution as a hero.  Iknow i am a  huge  fan of  spider-man and i know  that the  first suit was a major disappointment for me!  I am liking  what the  did with the #2  suit  lets see how it  goes!

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 opens in America Friday, May 2nd.
