Star Wars Heads to Marvel Comics in 2015

In a move that many fans have been anticipating since The Walt Disney Company acquired Lucasfilm in 2012, Marvel announced today that Star Wars comic books will return to the Disney-owned publisher beginning in 2015, the same year that will see the release of J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: Episode VII.

Marvel Comics first began publishing an ongoing Star Wars series when the original George Lucas film hit theaters in 1977. For the next nine years, Marvel followed the adventures of Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia and Han Solo in an ongoing series that filled the gaps between each big screen adventure, even continuing for a while after the events of Return of the Jedi.

Although the move offers new possibilities for the license, some fans may find saying goodbye to Dark Horse Comics a more somber affair. Dark Horse has published Star Wars comics since 1991, launching with the saga sequel Dark Empire, which picked up post-Jedi.

“Dark Horse Comics published exceptional Star Wars comics for over 20 years,” said Carol Roeder, director of Lucasfilm franchise publishing, Disney Publishing Worldwide said in a press statement, “and we will always be grateful for their enormous contributions to the mythos, and the terrific partnership that we had. In 2015, the cosmic adventures of Luke, Han, Leia and Chewbacca will make the lightspeed jump back to Marvel, to begin a new age of adventures within the Star Wars universe.”

“We here at Marvel could not be more excited to continue the publication of Star Wars comic books and graphic novels,” said Marvel Worldwide Publisher and President, Dan Buckley. “The perennial brand of Star Wars is one of the most iconic in entertainment history and we are honored to have the opportunity to bring our creative talent pool to continue, and expand Star Wars into galaxies far, far away.”

“We’re incredibly excited by this next chapter in the Star Wars saga,” said Andrew B. Sugerman, executive vice president of Disney Publishing Worldwide. “Bringing together the iconic Lucasfilm and Marvel brands to tell new stories will allow us to continue to thrill lovers of the original Star Wars comic books and entertain generations to come.”

Plans for new Star Wars comics are almost certainly tied to the December 18, 2015 release of Star Wars: Episode VII. Check back for further details on both as soon as they become available.

Katee Sackhoff Wants STAR WARS and Harley Quinn Roles

In a recent interview with Total Film, Battlestar Galactica‘s Katee Sackhoff talks about how much she would like to play Harley Quinn in a new Batman film, saying, “I think I might give away my firstborn to have an opportunity to play Harley Quinn.” She would be awesome in the role, and if they ever bring Quinn to life on the big screen, I hope she gets the part!

She also goes on to talk about Star Wars, what it means to her, and wanting to get involved with the new films being developed,

“Star Wars meant everything to me growing up. Star Wars was, I mean, it was the first time I remember seeing three movies that all kind of went together. It was just an amazing final understanding of what a trilogy was…I was absolutely obsessed, I mean I wanted to be… The sad thing is, I never wanted to be Princess Leia, I always wanted to be Han Solo! [laughs] I’ve never really been drawn to these female roles, but I think that The Clone Wars was so much fun for me to play, I mean a warrior….If J.J. would listen, I would play a rock in the Star Wars movies. I think that they’re fantastic, I think that he’s a great choice, and I’m excited to see what happens in that world.”

I think she would fit in the world of Star Wars just fine. Sackhoff also talks about wanting to play Wonder Woman, and what it was like for her auditioning for the TV series,

“I’d love to play Wonder Woman. I remember auditioning for the Wonder Woman television show and being told that I wasn’t the Wonder Woman type, but if I wanted to play the best friend, I could audition for that. And I remember thinking to myself, ‘You obviously haven’t seen my work!”

They must not have seen her work! As you all know the role of Wonder Woman has been filled by Gal Gadot in the upcoming Man of Steel sequel, and it doesn’t look like Sackhoff will ever get the chance. But who knows what will happen with Harley Quinn or Star Wars? Either one of those would be great if it happened.

IRON MAN 3 – Hot Toys Starboost Armor Collectible Figure

Hot Toys has revealed their latest collectible action figure for Iron Man 3! It’s the Starboost Mark XXXIX armor, and it’s the one a lot of fans were most excited to see in action, but then nothing really happened with it, and now it’s destroyed. It makes for an awesome action figure though!

The Starboost (Mark XXXIX) suit has stood out from the crowd since its introduction in Iron Man 3. Its cool space suit design with mixture of white, gold, and black colors has helped turned it become a fan favorite among all the armors from the “House Party Protocol”.

The Dark Knight: Batman Armory with Bruce Wayne & Alfred

Captain America: The Winter Soldier Debuts Four New Stills

Following Empire‘s just revealed Captain America: The Winter Soldier new cover designs, the magazine has brought online four new stills from the upcoming Marvel Studios film. Check them out below!

Captain America: The Winter Soldier will pick-up where Marvel’s The Avengers left off, as Steve Rogers struggles to embrace his role in the modern world and teams up with Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, to battle a powerful yet shadowy enemy in present-day Washington, D.C.

The April 4 release stars Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Robert Redford, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Cobie Smulders, Frank Grillo, Georges St-Pierre, Hayley Atwell, Toby Jones, Emily VanCamp and Maximiliano Hernández.

Marvel has released the first official photo from James Gunn‘s The Guardians of the Galaxy. The photo features the main characters in the film, played by Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, and Vin Diesel. Just so you know, this movie is going to be awesome!
