HBO is prepping to go into production on their adaptation of Michael Crichton‘s 1973 film, Westworld. J.J. Abrams is producing the series, and the pilot episode is being co-written and directed by Jonathan Nolan. The cable network has also just cast Anthony Hopkins and Evan Rachel Wood in the new series. The thriller is described as a “dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the future of sin.”

Hopkins is set to play Dr. Robert Ford, “the brilliant, taciturn and complicated creative director, chief programmer and chairman of the board of Westworld, who has an uncompromising creative vision for the park — and unorthodox methods of achieving it.” As for Wood, she will take on the role of Dolores Abernathy, “the quintessential farm girl of the frontier West — who is about to discover that her entire idyllic existence is an elaborately constructed lie.”

The fact that they got Hopkins is fantastic! It just shows you the potential that this series has. I’m a fan of the original movie, and I’m confident that this series will be even better. It’s got such a solid team of talent behind it.

The original flick centers on a robot that malfunctions and creates havoc and terror for unsuspecting vacationers at a futuristic, adult-themed amusement park.https://i1.wp.com/static.squarespace.com/static/51b3dc8ee4b051b96ceb10de/53d02d30e4b01edbad4baca8/53d02d32e4b0dfd1510a4891/1406151992225/evan-rachel-wood-photo.jpg?resize=392%2C296

Xbox Entertainment has released four photos from their digital series Halo: Nightfall. They features actor Mike Colter, who plays the lead character Agent Locke. This character will also play a major role in the upcoming video game Halo 5: Guardians.

According to Variety, Colter plays “an agent with the Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI) whose team is sent to investigate terrorist activity on a distant colony world and are eventually drawn to an ancient, hellish artifact during their search.”

The series is being directed by Sergio Mimica-Gezzan (Falling Skies, Battlestar Gallactica) from a script by Paul Scheuring (Prison Break). Colter had this to say in statement:

“The script was incredibly gripping. It introduces an intriguing and mysterious world that I wanted to know more about… My favorite experience thus far would be shooting a scene in Belfast where I’m chasing an enemy who poses a serious threat to the people Agent Locke has sworn to protect through the city. The scene is an action-packed sequence that involves some cool special effects and a lot of coordination with the stunt team to fulfill the director’s vision. I can’t wait to see how it turns out.”

Ridley Scott and David Zucker are executive producing the project, and it will be released before the end of 2014. https://i0.wp.com/static.squarespace.com/static/51b3dc8ee4b051b96ceb10de/53cebf97e4b060480078e469/53cebf98e4b0a5fdf5e7c6d7/1406058469650/hr_Halo_Nightfall_2.jpg?w=584https://i0.wp.com/static.squarespace.com/static/51b3dc8ee4b051b96ceb10de/53cebf97e4b060480078e469/53cebf98e4b0eb57e5fc9a4a/1406058393641/hr_Halo_Nightfall_3.jpg?w=584https://i1.wp.com/static.squarespace.com/static/51b3dc8ee4b051b96ceb10de/53cebf97e4b060480078e469/53cebf98e4b0ffc87f7fc2d1/1406058393904/hr_Halo_Nightfall_4.jpg?w=584

GOTHAM Will Include Older Harvey Dent and Hugo Strange

https://i1.wp.com/static.squarespace.com/static/51b3dc8ee4b051b96ceb10de/t/53ce88dde4b0e7d8eb42da42/1406044391085/hugo_strange_by_scotchlover-d5gy4xu.png?w=584

We can now add a couple more characters to the list of villains that we will see in Gotham. So far we have Catwoman, Penguin, Riddler, Poison Ivy, and Joker making appearances, but now it looks like Doctor Hugo Strange will be included along with an older version of Harvey Dent.

IGN had an opportunity to talk to show runner Bruno Heller about the series, and this is what he had to say regarding Strange andArkham:

“Hugo Strange is going to pop up because we’re going to start dealing with how Arkham was created and why Arkham was created in the way that it was so, yeah, absolutely. It’s a Season One thing because in our telling of it the way Arkham was created and the why and how is one of the causes of the particular criminal climate in Gotham that allowed Batman to happen. The revolving door of Arkham is both a brilliant narrative device because it allows you to — you don’t have to kill people off, you can just put them in cold storage — but if you’re telling the story from the start you kind of have to explain, ‘What the f***? Why don’t you make that place a place people don’t escape from?’ We’re going to explain why it is the way it is and Hugo Strange is a big part of that.”

Strange is a great character, and I’m really excited that he is going to play a decent sized role in the series. I’m curious to see how they are going to handle this whole aspect of the world of Gotham. As far as Dent goes, he explains:

“We’re playing Harvey Dent slightly older. He’s more Gordon’s age in this telling. One of the things to avoid in order not to tell a high school story — which would be great, but it’s a different show on a different network at a different time that I would not be a part of. But he will go back to school and villains will be part of that world.”

what are you thought about how the charcater is being handled?  we want to know!

The Hollywood Reporter brings word this morning that “True Blood” star Deborah Ann Woll has joined the cast of “Marvel’s Daredevil” in a significant role, that of Nelson & Murdock secretary and love interest Karen Page!

Scenes Cut From Walking Dead Premiere for Being Too Violent?

Is the Season 5 premiere of The Walking Dead so violent and disturbing that some scenes have been cut?

This seems to be the case after an interview with star Steven Yeun – AKA Glenn – in which the actor claimed some scenes were so shocking, he wasn’t even sure if they were even legal:

Said Steven:

I remember a couple of scenes I would look over at what was going on in the scene and I would be like, ‘What the eff? What are we doing? How is this legal? It’s grounded and real, too; it’s not like torture or gore for no reason. It’s literally, that is what would happen and we are trying to show it. It would not work on network television, let me tell you that.

This is not the first time we’ve heard about the brutality of the Season 5 premiere. Only last week Lauren Cohan, AKA Maggie, made similar statements about the episode, saying some of the scenes were “so disturbing” she didn’t think they’d make it onto TV.

We already witnessed some seriously shocking scenes in The Walking Dead Season 4, probably none more so than Rick’s attack on Joe’s throat:

However, after hearing what Steven and Lauren have said about the violent nature of the upcoming premiere, I’m starting to get worried that the censors will get their hands all over the episode and cut all the controversial stuff out. If, as mentioned, the violence is not gratuitous but rather serves the story and is grounded in realism, then I think it should be kept in.

This is an amazing show  from the  character development to the stories within!  the effects are spectacular! and its only a tv show!  I would  hope  that the show  would  stay on the  course its following and  not have to  cut  parts  because its too violent!  I can only  hope  things  work itself out!

American Gladiators is getting rebooted

https://i1.wp.com/cdn.bloguin.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/94/2014/07/aglad.jpg?resize=318%2C218
I guess you could call this a re-reboot, but American Gladiators is getting rebooted for a second time. The show initially made its return in 2008 for two seasons, but fell off the schedule despite a strong debut.

The new American Gladiators has been inspired by NBC’s summer success with American Ninja Warrior, and has been called “a little darker, more intense, more series” by executive producer Arthur Smith. Smith also called the reboot “post-apocalyptic”, and said that it adds elements from The Hunger Games and mixed martial arts.

When you look at all that…is this reboot going to resemble American Gladiators at all, or is it just going to have the same name? From what Brown is describing, this seems like some sort of athletic reality show that has “American Gladiators” slapped onto it. A sportsy, fighting-based version of the Hunger Games really isn’t American Gladiators at all, which was billed as a competition between “regular people” and the massively built Gladiators. This just seems like an attempt to continue to cash in on a nostalgia trip without really capturing the original spirit of what you’re trying to convince people you’re paying tribute to.

New Info on PACIFIC RIM Animated Series

https://i1.wp.com/static.squarespace.com/static/51b3dc8ee4b051b96ceb10de/t/53bee2c1e4b076716d347e3c/1405018832067/pacific-rim-gypsy-danger-sideshow-collectible-statue.jpg?w=584

Guillermo del Toro not only announced a sequel to Pacific Rim, but an animated series as well. In a recent interview with Collider, the filmmaker talks about the series and what it will entail. The series is still very early in development, but he offered up some details on the premise and the timeline saying:

“It’s a great set-up and a link between the first movie and the second movie.  It really enhances the mythology of the characters; we have cameos of characters from the first movie, but mostly it’s a new set of characters.  New jaegers, except for one or two, [and] new kaijus.  It’s really fun.”

He goes on to reveal that the show will be one long story, and not just a series of self contained episodes, which I love! I wish more American animated series would be like that. That’s why I watch anime.

“We’re going for a long arc, so the idea is to show a group of characters—we have pilots, functional jaegers, but we have all these younger characters.  I really want to explore things that are complimentary to the things that I want to explore in the second movie: drift, what drifting does to you, what is needed to drift, a lot of stuff that I think is important, but also the jaeger technology, the kaijus being evolved, ideas about the precursors—the guys that control the kaijus.  We have a lot of leeway in 13 episodes and I wanna make it sort of in the same spirit of Pacific Rim, which is the ideal audience for Pacific Rim was young—very young, 11-year-olds and so forth—but with really beautiful design and stories that make these characters interesting in a way that I found them interesting in, for example, Year Zero, the graphic novel that we did.  And I think that’s the basic thrust of the thing.”

As for where we might see the show air he says:

“Legendary is talking to a few outlets so I’d rather not disclose myself.  The way we set up The Strain was to talk to everyone, literally, on the map, and then find who’s response we sort of jibe with the most.  I think in this series, it would be great to find a place that can give it a proper presentation and can advertise the creation of the series.  So we’re open to being pleasantly surprised everywhere.”

I know  for one i would love to see an animated show!  what are your thoughts on this project?

Half of Firestorm Cast in THE FLASH

http://static.squarespace.com/static/51b3dc8ee4b051b96ceb10de/t/53bda5e3e4b0c675caa22fce/1404937738914/half-of-firestorm-cast-in-the-flash?format=500w

The CW has cast Robbie Amell in the recurring role of Ronnie Raymond, the fiance of S.T.A.R. Labs scientist Caitlin Snow in the upcoming new series The Flash. The character is also one-half of the DC Comics character Firestorm.

There’s no confirmation on if he’ll actually turn into Firestorm in the series, but I don’t see why he wouldn’t. In the comics Ronnie is fused together with his partner, and he has some of the most complex and unique powers in the DC universe. He’s able to transform matter into other elements, he’s blessed with superhuman strength, and, of course, he can fly.

The news comes from TV Line which says that in the series he will play a “S.T.A.R. Labs maintenance worker” and that he’ll be “an integral part in the particle accelerator accident that transforms Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) into the titular speedster.”

Executive producer Greg Berlanti said in a statement:

“[DC Comics Chief Creative Officer] Geoff Johns, Andrew Kreisberg and myself designed the pilot and series to include Ronnie (aka Firestorm) — and to actually have someone with Robbie’s talent playing the role is beyond exciting. We can’t wait for viewers and fans of the character to check it out.”

One other interesting bit of information about Robbie Amell is that he is the real life cousin of Arrow star Stephen Amell.
