Shane Black’s ‘Predator’ Sequel Will “Reinvent the Franchise”, Says Producer John Davis

It’s been a year since we last heard about the new Predator movie that Shane Black is attached to direct, but we’ve got some good news: it’s still very much moving forward. The Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and Iron Man 3 filmmaker signed on to direct and write a treatment for a new Predator movie last summer, enlisting friend and Monster Squad co-writer Fred Dekker to pen the screenplay. While initially reported as a reboot of the property, Black—who appeared as an actor in the 1987 original, and also contributed significantly to the script—subsequently revealed to us that the film is instead an “inventive sequel” that will mine the rich mythology of the franchise. Dolph Lundgren starring in Kindergarten Cop 2

There’s a new Kindergarten Cop in town.

EW has confirmed that Swedish actor and martial artist Dolph Lundgren is starring in Kindergarten Cop 2, filling Arnold Schwarzenegger’s shoes in the straight-to-DVD sequel from Universal’s 1440 Entertainment.

Schwarzenegger and Lundgren worked together on 2010’s The Expendables, and Lundgren has a stack of tough-guy roles on his resume, including his vulgar and volatile Expendables character Gunner Jensen and rival boxer Ivan Drago in Rocky IV. Manly Movie broke the news Thursday, sharing photos of Lundgren on set in Vancouver. THE HOBBIT: THE BATTLE OF THE FIVE ARMIES Extended Edition Will Be Rated R?!

Earlier this week we learned that the extended editions for Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit trilogy will be getting a big screen theatrical release. Some people were excited while others were like, “Hell no!”

Well, there’s been an interesting development for one of the films that will be released. According to Ropes of Silicon, the extended edition version of The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies has been slapped with an R-rating by the MPAA.  The reason they give for the R-rating is “Some Violence,” which seems weird. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a movie get an R-rating for having “Some Violence.”

That ‘Jumanji’ Remake Officially Has A Release Date

Yup, Sony is officially remaking “Jumanji” — and it’s your 2016 Christmas present. If you’re of the anti-remake mindset, that news may make you as angry as a troop of monkeys destroying a kitchen. But then again, it’s hard to deny that the 1995 fantasy movie could benefit from some better CGI in the remake.

On Wednesday, Sony Pictures released its film slate through 2019 with release dates for 16 new films, including the new Jumanji, Bad Boys 3 and “4,” and a new date for Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters. News of a Jumanji remake first broke in 2012 when Sony announced plans to update the Robin Williams fantasy film for the present. Now you can expect to see a modern revamp of the movie on Christmas Day in 2016 — here’s to hoping they release an updated version of the board game as well. Continue reading →

Sony Sets A Date For THE DARK TOWER

Earlier today, the folks at Sony announced release dates (and a few release date tweaks) for a slew of upcoming titles. Sixteen, all told, and a few of them are actually pretty big deals! Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters got moved up a week next July, a Jumanji remake was inexplicably announced for Christmas of next year, Edgar Wright’s Baby Driver ended up with a Spring Break release date in 2017, and – in what may well be the most elaborate bit of trolling BMD’s Stephen King fans have ever seen – The Dark Tower was dated for January 13, 2017.

Sony says the Dark Tower movie – ostensibly the first in a whole series of Dark Tower movies – will hit theaters in about a year and a half.

Allegedly, The Dark Tower opens on January 13th, 2017.

‘Bad Boys 3’, and a Fourth Is On the Way!

The streets have been clamoring for a Bad Boys threequel for a decade now, ever since Will Smith, Martin Lawrence, and Michael Bay colluded to make one of the best action films of all time (Bad Boys 2, of course). As Michael Bay moved on to robots, Will fell back, and Martin fell off, it began to seem like a pipe dream. But now, not only is Bad Boys 3 really, truly happening, there’s also a fourth right behind it. Long live Hollywood’s franchise thirst. First an ensemble film and now yet another sequel, Will sure is taking strides to get out of his career rut, isn’t he?

Not to be a Debbie Downer, but there is one thing casting a cloud over this otherwise exciting news, though: Michael Bay’s relative non-involvement. Say what you will, but when the man is at his best he makes things explode like no other. It’s not hyperbole to count him equal to Will and Martin as a key factor in what makes the first two films macho-action classics. Joe Carnahan (Narc, Smokin Aces, The Grey) is already attached to direct BB3. Hopefully he’ll do a fine job honoring the magic that came before him. But please, for the love of sun-soaked, high-octane shootout climaxes, let the Hollywood stars align to bring Bay back for 4. Fingers crossed. Anyway, if Sony’s dates stick, expect Bad Boys 3 February 2017 and Bad Boys 4 July 2019.

Dungeons & Dragons Adaptation Moving Forward After Legal Dispute

Back in 2013, it was announced that Warner Bros. was developing a live-action adaptation of Dungeons & Dragons, which was quickly squashed by Hasbro just a week later. Now, the legal dispute between the two has been settled and Warner Bros. Pictures, Hasbro’s Allspark Pictures and Sweetpea Entertainment have announced they are moving forward on the feature film. Lionsgate Ramping Up ‘Naruto’ Movie with Michael Gracey

Lionsgate has signed Michael Gracey to direct an adaptation of the popular Japanese manga series “Naruto.”

The studio is in negotiations for the film rights to the “Naruto” series written and illustrated by Masashi Kishimoto, first published in 1997. The manga, which has sold more than 200 million copies in print, follows adolescent ninja Naruto Uzumaki, who dreams of becoming the village ninja, the community’s protector and leader.

Avi Arad and his son Ari Arad are producing through Arad Productions. Erik Feig, Geoff Shaveitz and Kelly O’Malley will oversee for the studio.

“Naruto” has generated an anime series in Japan that premiered in 2002 and lasted 220 episodes, while the “Naruto: Shippuden” sequel has been airing since 2007. In addition to the anime series, Studio Pierrot has developed 10 movies.

Gracey is a former visual effects specialist who has moved into directing. He’s been attached to several studio projects that are in development — Universal’s adaptation of the New York Times best-seller “Daughter of Smoke and Bone,” his Elton John biopic, Rocketman, with Tom Hardy attached and Fox’s P.T. Barnum biopic, The Greatest Showman on Earth.

Robert Rodriguez Says JOHNNY QUEST Will Be a Legit Action Adventure Movie

A couple of months ago we learned that Robert Rodriguez will be directing a live-action adaptation of the classic 1964 cartoon series Johnny Quest. This is going to be a different kind of project for the filmmaker. He’s made kid films before, but this isn’t going to be the same silly kind of kids movies that he’s made in the past.
