Ryan Gosling’s ‘Lost River’ Will Get Day-and-Date VOD Release

Ryan Gosling Directing Lost RiverUPDATE, Dec. 30, 1:20 p.m. PST — Warner Bros. will give a limited U.S. theatrical release in New York and Los Angeles  for “Lost River,” Ryan Gosling’s much-derided directorial debut, in the early second quarter along with a day and date release on digital platforms.

Variety had reported initially on Monday that there would be no theatrical release.

“Lost River” premiered to mostly negative notices in May at the Cannes Film Festival in the Un Certain Regard section.

Variety’s Justin Chang gave it a pan: “‘Lost’ is indeed the operative word for this violent fairy tale about a fractured family trying to survive among the ruins of a city overrun by thugs, sexual predators and other demons….”

The film stars Christina Hendricks, Eva Mendes, Matt Smith, Saoirse Ronan and Iain De Caestecker. The script, written by Gosling, centers on a single mother swept into a dark fantasy underworld while her teenage son discovers a secret road leading to an underwater town.

Warner Bros. acquired U.S. rights in 2013 during Cannes, where Sierra/Affinity sold international rights to 20 markets. The film, which was shot in Detroit, was called “How to Catch a Monster” at that point.

Production companies are Marc Platt, Phantasma Films and Bold Films production. Producers are Platt, Gosling, Adam Siegel, Michel Litvak and David Lancaster.

News about “Lost River” being released in the second quarter was first reported by Collider.com.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt Gives SANDMAN Movie Update

http://static.squarespace.com/static/51b3dc8ee4b051b96ceb10de/t/53f61774e4b0f5b261f6caf6/1408636830686/?format=500w

Joseph Gordon-Levitt is easily one of the busiest and most talented young actors working in Hollywood, and he’s been branching out in other aspects of the business. On top of acting, he’s currently running his HitRECord web project, he made his directorial debut with Don Jon, and he was an executive producer on Looper. He’s now looking at developing the long awaited big-screen adaptation of Neil Gaiman‘s Sandman, which he is looking to star in and direct.

In a recent interview with Moviefone, Gordon-Levitt gave an update on the film saying that he’s been working on the script with David Goyer and Gaiman. He explains,

“It’s a lot of the same people who worked on the Nolan Batman movies. It’s really exciting. There’s not a script yet, we’re still kind of working it out because it’s such a complicated adaptation because Sandman wasn’t written as novels. Sin City was written as a novel. Sandman is 75 episodic issues. There’s a reason people have been trying and failing to adapt Sandman for the past 20 years….You know, we’re still in the middle of it, so I don’t want to make any claims, but I think we’ve got the right ideas.”

I can only imagine how hard it is for these guys to come up with the right story to make the fans happy, but I think they have a great team of talent working on it, and if anyone can pull it off, it’s these guys. They also recently brought in screenwriter Jack Thorne, who recently adapted Nick Hornby’s dark comedic novel A Long Way Down, to help draft Sandman‘s new screenplay.

Obviously the project is still very far away from becoming a reality as they don’t even have a script yet. The project won’t even get a greenlight from Warner Bros. until that is done.

The Sandman comic series was created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby. But, it wasn’t until Neil Gaiman came along and wrote the series that it really became popular. The 75+ issue comic arc ran from January of 1989 to March of 1996. The studio has been trying to get a movie made since as far back as 1996.

The story focuses on Morpheus, the Lord of the Dreaming, a deity who personifies dreams. Gaiman also introduced the Endless, a group of powerful brothers and sisters named Destiny, Death, Destruction, Despair, Desire, and Delirium (as well as Dream).

Two More actors have been added to Star Wars: Episode VII!

stars-wars-moreTwo more names have been officially added to the cast of J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: Episode VII today! Lucasfilm just revealed that Crystal Clarke and Pip Anderson are set to join Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, Kenny Baker, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow, Lupita Nyong’o and Gwendoline Christie in the December 18, 2015 release.

The official announcement reads as follows and offers this link where you can check out Anderson in a Spider-Man-related ad.

At the end of last year Lucasfilm and Disney invited all young aspiring actors to attend an open casting call for roles in J.J Abrams’ Star Wars Episode VII. The casting calls spanned 11 cities across the US and UK and over 37,000 hopefuls attended, with a further 30,000 submitting applications online.

Having hunted high and low for young and undiscovered talent, the filmmakers are delighted to announce that two actors from the open call call have been cast.

Crystal Clarke is an American actress studying in Glasgow, UK, who has both stage and screen acting experience and is soon to be seen in her first feature, “The Moon and the Sun” (to be released in 2015). British actor Pip Anderson is a skilled practitioner of parkour, a discipline that involves propelling oneself through any given environment with incredible grace and agility. Pip recently demonstrated this remarkable skill in a Spider-Man ad for Sony.

“The Star Wars universe has always been about discovering and nurturing young talent and in casting Episode VII we wanted to remain absolutely faithful to this tradition. We are delighted that so many travelled to see us at the open casting calls and that we have been able to make Crystal and Pip a part of the film,” said producer and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy.

Meanwhile, principal photography continues at Pinewood Studios in London after wrapping on location in Abu Dhabi in May.

alot of new people keep joining the cast!  i hope its not overkill!

In August, the team will take a brief two-week hiatus while adjustments to the current production schedule are made as actor Harrison Ford recovers from a leg injury. Harrison is doing well and is looking forward to returning to the set soon. Shooting remains on track to wrap in the fall with the film scheduled for release on December 18, 2015.n

Meet the Wayne Family in New Gotham Set Photos

Meet the Wayne Family in New Photos from the Set of Gotham

As production continues in Manhattan for Fox and Warner Bros. Television’s “Gotham,” we’ve been amassing quite a bit of photos from the set of the upcoming series. Just yesterday we got our first look at Donal Logue as Harvey Bullock and today we’ve got new photos showing the young Bruce Wayne, played by David Mazouz, along with his parents Thomas and Martha Wayne, played by Grayson McCouch and Brette Taylor. Check them out in the gallery viewer below!

“Gotham” is an origin story of the great DC Comics super villains and vigilantes, revealing an entirely new chapter that has never been told. From executive producer/writer Bruno Heller (“The Mentalist,” “Rome”), “Gotham” follows one cop’s rise through a dangerously corrupt city teetering on the edge of evil and chronicles the birth of one of the most popular super heroes of our time.

“Gotham” is based upon characters published by DC Comics and is produced by Warner Bros. Television. Heller wrote the pilot, which will be directed and executive-produced by Emmy Award nominee Danny Cannon (the “CSI” series, “Nikita”).
