Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark will be available on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Wii U, PC, Xbox 360, and Xbox One this June.
The year 2015 is upon us. The future of Back to the Future Part II is almost here, and the world is no where near the future they envisioned. There are no hover boards, flying cars, futuristic-looking ’80s clothes, or people wearing their clothes inside out. But, it looks like Nike plans on having power laces! Nike designer Tinker Hatfield showed up at the Jordan Brand’s Flight Lab space in New Orleans recently, and when he was asked about power laces this is what he said,
“Are we gonna see power laces in 2015? To that, I say YES!”
Hatfield didn’t go into any details on whether the power laces will show up on the Nike Mag or some other product, but does it really matter?! Power laces are coming! That’s enough to get me excited. 2015 just got even more awesome.
I wonder how long Nike has been holding on to this power laces technology.
Hasbro Fan Collectors Event held at the New York Times Center on 41st Street in New York City, we have a full gallery of pictures from Habro’s 2014 Transformers and Star Wars lines, the former featuring new toys associated with Michael Bay’s upcoming fourth film Transformers: Age of Extinction, to be released by Paramount Pictures on June 27.
As might be expected, especially with 2014 being the 30th Anniversary of Transformers, Hasbro is going all-out with toys associated with the upcoming movie including brand-new molds of many of the Dinobots who will be showing up on the big screen for the first time including Grimlock, Strafe, Slash and Slug. They are introducing a High-Octane Bumblebee as well as new molds of Autobot leader Optimus Prime which changes into a different version of his truck form, matched by a similar vehicle look for Decepticon Galvatron. Other robots in the line include Autobot Drift, who changes into a Bugatti and a large-size Leader scale Jetfire.
Hasbro’s Star Wars line is continuing the popular Black Series with new figures in the line, as well as launching a new directive with the Versus series, but the biggest introduction is the line tying into the new animated series “Star Wars Rebels” with new figures of the main baddie, The Inquisitor and his Advanced Prototype Tie Fighter. They also have a role play item based on his main light saber weapon that can be used as one double-bladed weapon, two single blades, as well as a force disc.
Other characters introduced from the series for the new toy line include the new young hero Ezra, a Jedi who doesn’t know he is one yet, as well as his mentor Kanan, and a creature called Zeb, who is based on some of the original concept art for Chewbacca. There is another new Imperial villain called Agent Kallus. In fact, many of the new characters for “Star Wars Rebels” and Hasbro’s line were inspired or based on the designs by late “Star Wars” designer and concept artist Ralph McQuarrie.
As far as the Black Series, Hasbro were proud that their new packaging would allow for larger figures including one of Jabba the Hutt as well as an “Episode VI” Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker.
Another new “Star Wars”-related initiative for 2014 is Star Wars Command, which takes the concept of the “Little Army Men” and brings it to Star Wars with lots of small plastic figures based on Star Armies, throws in a couple of vehicles and creates a new form of gameplay for kids. The presenter for the Command initiative cracked the rather amusing joke that this new line gives the “power to kids to wage war… it’s Star WARS, not Star Hugs.”
James Cameron recently talked to RTL (via MarketSaw) about the upcoming three sequels to Avatar, the top grossing movie of all time with $2.782 billion at the worldwide box office.
“We’re still in the early stages. Right now we’re developing the software. I’m writing the scripts. We’re designing all the creatures and characters and the settings, and so on. So, I’m not actually directing yet, but I’m doing all the other creative processes that lead up to that,” Cameron said.
He added that he thinks “it’s going very well. I think it’s going to be spectacular. You’ll see new worlds, new habitats, new cultures. The primary conflict between the human view kind of dominating nature and the Na’vi view of being integrated into nature is the same, but it manifests itself in very different ways.”
As far as the tech behind the upcoming films, they have greatly reduced how long one movie will take to make. “The first film… took almost four years to make. We expect to be able to accelerate the process quite a bit, because we’ve improved a lot of the software and the computer graphics tools, and we’ve been working very closely with Weta Digital down here in New Zealand developing a whole new suite of tools to speed up the process.”
Cameron also said they are “looking at high frame rate. I’m studying that. I haven’t made a final decision yet, whether the entire film will be made at high frame rate or parts of it. You know, we’ll be shooting at a native resolution of probably 4K and so then there should be a lot of true 4K theaters by then as well.”
So what can we expect story wise? “The thing that’s great about ‘Avatar,’ it’s such a rich world, I can explore any theme or any idea that I want. Once you’ve got the characters that an audience loves, it’s great to surprise them and make changes and turns that they don’t expect. And you don’t have to spend so much time of the movie setting up all that stuff, because the audience will remember from the previous film.”

Slowly but surely, Beetlejuice 2 is making its way to the big screen. Seth Grahame-Smith, the author of the book Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and the screenplay for Dark Shadows, is working on the script. It was previously rumored that Michael Keaton and Tim Burton would team up again for the film, and now Keaton has confirmed it in an interview with MTV, saying,
“I’ve e-mailed Tim a couple of times, talked to the writer a couple of times, but all really, really preliminary stuff. I always said that’s the one thing I’d like to do again, if I ever did anything again. But it kind of required Tim to be involved some way or another.
“Now it looks like he is involved, and without giving too much away we’ve talked to each other, and e-mailed each other, and if he’s in, it’s going to be hard not to be in.”
This is incredible news for fans of the first film. I’ve been hoping this sequel would happen for the longest time. I hope they they end up giving us a great sequel. My biggest worry is Grahame-Smith writing the film, because the script for Dark Shadows was awful.

Last year producer Joel Silver regained the rights to Escape From New York, and the plan is to remake it and develop it into a trilogy. At least the first film will focus on Snake’s backstory. The film is still early in its development – there’s not even a script for the movie yet. But in a recent interview with Collider, Silver gives an update on what they are planning for the films and how it is partly inspired by the video game Batman: Arkham City.
“There was a videogame that came out a few years ago called Arkham City, which shows how Gotham became this walled prison. And they never deal with that in the story of Escape From New York, so part of our idea was to see how the city became this walled prison and how the Snake Plissken character was a hero and how he became not looked at as a hero. And then, in the middle of the story, would be the movie that we previously saw about the President’s daughter goes down, [and] he has to go in and get her. And then they did a sequel, Escape from L.A., but I would like to then find a way to have New York go back to a place that we’d like to see what it is today.”
