James Cameron Talks TERMINATOR: GENESIS

There’s no argument that director James Cameron brought us the best Terminator films that have been made. None of the other movies have lived up to the awesomeness that he brought audiences. A new trilogy of films is currently in development, and the first one, Terminator: Genesis, is currently shooting.

During a recent Q&A at the Hero Complex Film Festival, Cameron talked about his past and current involvement with franchise. He revealed that he’s loosely attached to the upcoming films, but he won’t receive any credit for them. One of his biggest contributions to the films was to ensure that the story will focus on Arnold Schwarzenegger‘s character.

Here’s what Cameron had to say at the event. Thanks to /Film for the quote.

I pay attention to [the new Terminator films] but I’m not terribly concerned about it one way or the other. I’ve had to let it go. There was a point in time where I debated going after the rights. Carolco Pictures, the company that produced Terminator 2, was failing and in bankruptcy and the rights were in play. I talked briefly to 20th Century Fox about it. At a certain point, I think I was finishing Titanic at the time and I just felt as a filmmaker maybe I’ve gone beyond it. I really wasn’t that interested. I felt like I’d told the story I wanted to tell. I suppose I could have pursued it more aggressively and gone to the mat for it but I felt like I was laboring in someone else’s house in a sense because I had sold the rights very early on.

Basically I went from being a truck driver to being a film director and part of my dues paying was that I sold the rights to Terminator for a song, essentially, in order to keep myself attached as a director. And the outcome was fine. The rest of my career really hinged upon that. But I no longer had control of it. I thought why don’t I just create my own new thing that I would have control over the IP. So I kind of let it go and in the act of letting it go, I now have to live with the consequences of that — which is I can’t get too emotionally involved in it.

Now having said that — when the new round of Terminator films, they’re making the first one and I think there’s meant to be two (EDITOR’S NOTE: It’s supposed to be three), when Megan Ellison bought the rights, she asked me if I wanted to be involved. I said “Well look. I don’t mind standing behind the curtain and whispering like some court advisory in 15th century Italy or something.” My goal in that was not to insinuate myself artistically but to try to make sure they stayed true to the Terminator character and the idea of Arnold being in it. Because he’s a friend of mine and we’ve been through all the wars together and everything. And I wanted them to see the possibilities I saw for what they could do with this character.

And then David Ellison took the project over from Megan and he and I met a couple times. And so Arnold is very much front and center in the new Terminator films. So I might have had some tiny effect on it — but obviously they had to make the right financial and creative decisions themselves so I’m not trying to take credit for the film that they’re making but that was my goal in being loosely attached to the film but I won’t have any credit on it.

Mortal Kombat X reveal video – five bone breaks, one decapitation and counting

In the interests of full disclosure, imagine that I’m a TV anchorman screaming a news report from the middle of a raging hurricane. The news report is about Mortal Kombat X, which has just been announced for 2015 release, and the hurricane is Aoife’s reaction. I’m sure she’ll be able to tell you more, once she’s stopped throwing chairs at me from the top of that filing cabinet.

The game’s first trailer is below. Is it too early in the day for a wee Mortal Kombat-themed drinking game? Of course it isn’t. Here’s a suggestion: down a shot every time a bone is broken, or somebody gets stabbed/mutilated. You should be far too sozzled by the end to enquire about supporting platforms, which have yet to be confirmed. [Update: it’s coming to PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC.]

“Fuelled by next-gen technology, Mortal Kombat X combines unparalleled, cinematic presentation with dynamic gameplay to create an unprecedented Kombat experience,” reads the blurb. As CVG notes, there’s plenty of environment interaction in the trailer. A hint, perhaps?

Lupita Nyong’o and Gwendoline Christie Officially Join STAR WARS: EPISODE VII

Back in March it was rumored that 12 Years a Slave co-star Lupita Nyong’o would join J.J. AbramsStar Wars: Episode VII. Today Lucasfilm announced that she has officially been cast along with Game of Thrones Gwendoline Christie. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy had this to say in a statement:

“I could not be more excited about Lupita and Gwendoline joining the cast of Episode VII. It’s thrilling to see this extraordinarily talented ensemble taking shape.”

There’s no concrete information on who they will be playing, but there’s a good chance Nyong’o will be playing a villain in the story. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Episode VII is currently shooting, and the actresses will join the previously announced cast that includes John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker.https://i0.wp.com/static.squarespace.com/static/51b3dc8ee4b051b96ceb10de/538caa70e4b09d9d1f632c73/538caa72e4b0eba84f5f3cad/1401727626138/game-of-thrones-gwendoline-christie.jpg?resize=584%2C392

DOCTOR STRANGE to be Directed by Sinister’s Scott Derrickson

https://i2.wp.com/static.squarespace.com/static/51b3dc8ee4b051b96ceb10de/t/538e4f5be4b03b9cda2a92c7/1401835360256/Doctor-Strange.jpg?resize=549%2C445

Doctor Strange is the one Marvel movie I’ve been really excited about seeing brought to life! He’s one of my favorite characters in the Marvel universe. Marvel Studios has hired Sinister director Scott Derrickson to helm the project. It was rumored back in March that the director was in the running.

THR reports that the director has officially signed onto the project. As much as I would have loved to see Guillermo del Toro take on the film, I’m happy that Derrickson landed the gig. He has also directed The Exorcism of Emily Rose and The Day the Earth Stood Still. I really liked what he did with Sinister though, of course horror flicks are kind of my thing. He most recently directed the upcoming psychological thriller with Eric Bana, Deliver Us From Evil.

I know the director isn’t perfect and that fans are going to be torn on this choice, but I personally think he’s got what it takes to bring the Sorcerer Supreme to life on the big screen. He has experience with th dark tone that the movie should have. Marvel obviously thinks the same thing, which is why they hired him.

Marvel is also looking at hiring Kung-Fu Panda scribes Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger to write the film. Their names have been attached to the project for a couple months now. I can’t wait to see how this production comes together, and who they end up casting as the main character.

Star Wars Episode VII the Millennium Falcon

TMZ obtained a photo of what looks like the beginning stages of Han Solo‘s famous spaceship the Millennium Falcon!!!

Sources close to the Rebel Alliance tell us the pics were taken inside an uber-secret location in the UK — where different set pieces, props and creatures are being constructed.

At first glance, it looked like run-of-the-mill set pieces … until one of our top “Star Wars” nerds in the office spotted the legendary Millennium Falcon in mid-construction — at least that’s how it looks.

How Much is Thanos in Guardians of the Galaxy?

thanosheader2

Last week, it was revealed that actor Josh Brolin had been cast in the role of Thanos in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Since the character’s debut at the end of Marvel’s The Avengers in 2012, we’ve known the mad titan would be a presence in the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe and that he would appear in some capacity in this summer’s “Guardians,” but to what extent remained a mystery. Now, Vulture reports they have learned how we’ll be seeing the big man in the film, so we’re going to issue a spoiler warning for the time being.

Vulture claims that Thanos will appear in the first act of Guardians of the Galaxy, albeit as a hologram and not in person. He’ll continue to appear this way for much of the film and is reportedly referenced by other characters throughout, though he does have one scene where he appears in the flesh, sharing the screen with Lee Pace’s Ronan the Accuser and Karen Gillan’s Nebula. So it seems that once again Thanos will be the puppeteer, waiting in the shadows for his big debut, which presumably will come during The Avengers 3.

Written and directed by James Gunn, the film also stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Djimon Hounsou, Benicio del Toro, John C. Reilly, Glenn Close, Gregg Henry, Bradley Cooper, Michael Rooker and Vin Diesel.? Guardians of the Galaxy will hit theaters on August 1.

Josh Brolin to Play Thanos in Guardians of the Galaxy

Gunn has previously revealed that the August 1 release is connected to Thanos, however.

Now, Latino-Review is reporting that the villain will be voiced by Josh Brolin in Guardians of the Galaxy. They say:

“An article on James Gunn’s post-production process reported a scene with Thanos on a rocket throne in Act 3, which suggests an appearance long enough that someone is going to have to voice the Mad Titan, someone that could take the part into Avengers 3 as a major villain.

That meant Marvel was looking for an actor of some caliber, someone that could give a performance to a very complex, but very purple-skinned alien villain.

Our sources tell us that person is JOSH BROLIN!!

He’ll be providing the voice of Thanos in Guardians of the Galaxy and with a name and reputation like that, it’s likely he’ll join James Spader and Tom Hiddleston as actors who have tried to kill The Avengers.”

Joss Whedon has hinted before that we wouldn’t be seeing Thanos take on The Avengers until Phase Three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe:

“Well, Thanos is more powerful. He is so powerful; he is not someone you can just trot out and punch him. Like he did in the comics, you want him threading through the universe and to save the big finale for the big finale. He is definitely a part of what I have got going on. The thing about The Avengers is that they are very powerful but not very stable. So, there will definitely be some people that will shake them up in the next installment.

Machiko Noguchi Premium Format™ Figure by Sideshow Collectibles

200251-product-feature2-740x448From the AVP universe, Sideshow Collectibles is proud to introduce the Machiko Noguchi Premium Format™ Figure.

Popularly known as the She-Predator by fans of the Alien Vs Predator  franchise, Machiko is one of the few humans ever to be accepted by Predators as one of their own. Based on an original interpretive character study, Sideshow’s artists have envisioned the beautiful yet barbaric warrior in a customizable display that features interchangeable masked and unmasked portraits. Determined to restore her lost family honor and overcome a lonely existence, Machiko’s tough persona and hunter’s prowess is perfectly captured in her expression and pose. Having won the hard earned respect of a Yatuja leader, her striking appearance imitates theirs, wearing her dark hair slicked back in dreadlocks, customized Predator armor with a fabric netted body suit, and the mark of their clan on her brow. Standing triumphantly over a fallen Alien Queen, and armed with razor sharp wrist gauntlets, a combi-stick spear and shoulder-mounted plasma cannon, it’s plain to see Machiko can take care of herself, as part of the pack or out on her own.

Charlie Cox is Marvel’s DAREDEVIL

http://static.squarespace.com/static/51b3dc8ee4b051b96ceb10de/t/53850ac3e4b0ea18bbddacc9/1401227973485/?format=750w

Latino-Review reports that Marvel is closely looking at Charlie Cox (Stardust, Boardwalk Empire) for the role of Daredevil in their upcoming Netflix series. Latino-Review got the casting of The Flash right, let’s see if their Marvel TV sources are just as good as their DC counterparts. This is the first real casting rumor for the title character of the Netflix series. Zac Efron has been rumored for a non-specific Marvel character, and Michael C. Hall said that he’d consider the project if it was offered to him.

Cox is not as well-known to the larger public as the two aforementioned actors are, perhaps this could be a breakout role for him. The Daredevil series should be a lot better than the movie, but maybe the baggage of the previous film is keeping away better known actors.

what are your thoughts on this?
