Captain America: Civil War Directors Confirmed For Avengers: Infinity War

In another batch of leaked Sony e-mails, Captain America: The Winter Soldier directors Joe and Anthony Russo confirmed that they will be directing Avengers: Infinity War Parts I and II, according to Overtice (via Screen Rant, who did the translation).

Apparently, as part of the ongoing saga of Sony e-mails about the Spider-Man situation, Joe Russo chimed in with a message to Sony Pictures co-chairman Amy Pascal in early November, saying that it was too bad the talks with Marvel had broken down.

The reports further claim that Russo confirmed in that email exchange that he and his brother are directing Infinity War — the third and fourth Avengers films — for Marvel but that it won’t prevent them directing The Gray Man for Sony after Civil War and before The Avengers.

A further e-mail later in November also reportedly suggested that the brothers could produce Spider-Man movies going forward, with the idea that it would force out Sony’s Spider-Man guru Avi Arad and be part of a larger plan to work more closely with Marvel.

It was reported that on the potential deal between Marvel and Sony to share the rights to Spider-Man at a 60/40 split, and that deal seems to be the one that will potentially be jump-started if Sony Pictures Entertainment continues to stumble in their handling of the Spider-Man franchise.

Sony is understandably preoccupied with the consequences of a massive hack that includes leaked films, downed intranet services and the leak of documents and e-mails, but should this deal move forward, we’ve learned some more details about what Spider-Man’s potential return to Marvel would entail.

The 60/40 split still looks to be the divide with Sony handling distribution. However, Marvel’s not inclined to give Sony creative control over the character, nor planning on honoring the contracts with Sony’s Spider-Stars. More poking into the origins of the Aunt May solo film and Female Spider movie rumors revealed that these were actual Sony Picture Entertainment plans that Marvel knew about and severely disliked. Now that Marvel can have the rights to the character back, they plan to wipe the slate with the Amazing Spider-Man universe.

IF the Marvel/Sony deal were to go forward, Andrew Garfield would no longer be Peter Parker and any baggage from existing films, Raimi or Webb, would be non-canonical, Marvel doesn’t want any part of those films. The idea is that the Spider-Man romance movie has been played out over five installments, so any new Spider-Man films would focus on the difficulties of being a teenager and a superhero with a romance side-story, not the film’s focus. Marvel also thinks that the origin story is well-trodden territory, so any Spider-Man movies under this deal would begin with Peter Parker already leading a dual life. Spider-Man making his debut in Captain America: Civil War is still a distinct possibility and would serve as the character’s introduction to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But as of now Spider-Man will NOT be in Civil War. I was told that they have a script nailed down.

Marvel’s desire to remove Andrew Garfield from the role was a major point of contention with Sony’s Amy Pascal, traditionally a stalwart defender of the talent in her films. However, current events leave her positioned slightly weakened.

To me garfeild was ok,  I know he was a fan and tried real hard  but  he just didnt do it for me!  I dont know what it was.  Very curious what can be  done here!

The Sony Email Leak Reveals A ‘Men In Black’ And ’21 Jump Street’ Crossover

Sony has not had a great month. After getting hacked by somebody (who is totally not North Korea you guys), pretty much all the studio’s internal secrets and spitballing ideas have tumbled out onto the internet. And one of those ideas would apparently cross the studio’s two biggest comedy franchises.According to the Wall Street Journal, the idea is more 23 Jump Street than Men In Black 4. Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones would essentially have cameos, if present at all, and it would be about C-Tates and Jonah Hill fighting aliens. It seems that Sony, after Men In Black 3 had a disappointing outing, wants to revive the franchise using their unexpected R-rated buddy cops to introduce a few new agents and concepts.

Honestly, it sounds dumb on paper but it’s not a terrible idea. One of the running jokes of 22 Jump Street is that the franchise is a creative dead end, and the movie has a point. They can’t exactly send our heroes to grad school undercover, although the MFA is a rich source of comedy material. So bringing in the aliens wouldn’t be the worst direction to go in.

That said, this sounds more like an idea that will turn into a Men In Black reboot and become a trivia question, like Die Hard originally being a sequel to Commando. It’s just that usually we find this out after the fact. Also, man are Chris Miller and Phil Lord going to be busy at Sony; they’ve not only got this one, they’ve also got that animated Spider-Man movie on the way. Spidey first, Sony, Spidey first.

Marvel and Sony Spider-Man Deal Still Might be on the Table!

We recently learned that Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios were indeed in discussions about making a deal to bring Spider-Man into the MCU. Apparently Marvel was hoping to bring the superhero into Captain America: Civil War, and that they would produce a new trilogy of films together, but it was reported that things didn’t work out and a deal died.

According to our friends at Latino-Review, though, it sounds like a deal is still alive and on the table, and that there is still room for negotiations! The site has an inside source that has offered them some interesting information. Here’s what they report:

“I can report that the deal Sony finally rejected was NOT a Marvel trilogy of movies that Sony would have control over. Instead, it was a co-production deal where Marvel and Sony would split future Spider-Man film costs 60/40 (Marvel paying the larger part) while MARVEL retained control of the Spider-Man creative property with the potential to have him cross-over into Marvel’s Phase films, like an appearance in Captain America: Civil War.”

They go on to say that the big bosses at Sony Japan are not happy with how things are going down. Not only with this whole email hacking situation, but also with how the Sony Pictures has handled the Spider-Man franchise. The site goes on to report,

“What I’m hearing from my little birds is that Sony, the parent company, views Sony Pictures’s handling of the Spider-Man property as disappointing. Sony wants to be all about ‘quality’ films (actual one-word quote, not air quotes), and the Amazing Spider-Man movies have not been that, nor have the rumors of future films in the franchise. Sony Japan thinks the Marvel deal for Spider-Man is still on the table and they want to renegotiate as a return to quality, the 60/40 split can be negotiated and Sony Entertainment’s October hard-line stance of wanting creative control is now mostly moot in the eyes of the higher-ups.”

Damn! So the guys at the top who are actually running things still want to see a deal made between Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures. Sure, it may not happen in time for Captain America: Civil War, but it could happen in time for Avengers: Infinity War. How freakin’ cool would it be if a deal was done in time? The site then goes to speculate the impossible:

“Wouldn’t it be neat if Sony’s ‘Spidey summit‘ ended with a call to Marvel, who made a call to Joss Whedon, who got a guy in a Spider-Man suit from ASM 2 to jump into those pick-up shots they’re shooting early next year for Avengers: Age of Ultron?… The world would lose [its] shit”

I know  i woiuld  love to see  marvel touch the character i think they can really do  something amazing with the charcter as to what they did for the other marvel characters!  It would be  great to see spidey interact with the avengers!  would be killer for  the civil war line!

Syfy developing Superman prequel ‘Krypton’

KRYPTONThe world of Superman is headed back to TV. A Superman prequel series called Krypton from Man of Steel writer David S. Goyer has landed in development at Syfy.

Here’s the pitch: “Years before the Superman legend we know, the House of El was shamed and ostracized. This series follows The Man of Steel’s grandfather as he brings hope and equality to Krypton, turning a planet in disarray into one worthy of giving birth to the greatest Super Hero ever known.”

Goyer was previously rumored to be working on such a project, but without a network or any details publicly attached. Goyer and Ian Goldberg (Once Upon a Time) will executive produce the project, with Goldberg writing a pilot script based on a story by both men.

In addition to Man of Steel, Goyer’s credits include Starz’ Da Vinci’s Demons, NBC’s Constantine and the upcoming Man of Steel sequel Batman vs. Superman.

The project comes on the heels of Fox’s Batman prequel series Gotham breaking out as one of the fall’s top-rated new shows.

The Krypton sequence of Man of Steel was some fans’ favorite part of the film, a mashup of sci-fi technology, dragon-riding fantasy and political intrigue. While Syfy has been on an ambitious roll lately, grabbing more high-profile and lavishly produced titles that may appeal to their core sci-fi audience. See Syfy plans to lure you back with these five shows.

It was nice to see in the movie just to get a little more background  but i for one  dont feel there is  enough to run a whole show on!  I think this is  very risky!  Maybe for  now  gothem is  working out  but i dont see that show  running the distance.

Japan’s Toho to Produce New ‘Godzilla’ Movie

TOKYO — Ten years after “Godzilla: Final Wars,” the last Toho Godzilla movie, trampled across the screen, the Japanese studio is gearing up to make another film featuring its iconic character.

The movie is scheduled to begin production in the summer of 2015 and bow theatrically in 2016, Toho sources have revealed. Details, including director and cast, have yet to be announced.

The inspiration is the success of Gareth Edward’s 2014 “Godzilla,” which earned $525 million worldwide and JPY3.2 billion ($26 million) in Japan, with Toho and Warner Bros. Japan co-distributing.

Toho has launched what it calls the Godzilla Strategic Conference (Godzi-Con), a committee of studio executives and directors whose aim is to reboot the Godzilla brand, including the new “Godzilla” pic.

The head of the new Godzilla project, veteran producer Taichi Ueda, told the press that, though Toho will not spend the $200 million reportedly lavished on the American “Godzilla,” “The time has come for Japan to make a film that will not lose to Hollywood.” Ueda added that Toho hopes to make Godzilla a character that “will represent Japan and be loved around the world” by the time of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

As part of its effort to reacquaint a new generation of Japanese with the country’s signature monster, Toho plans to erect a giant Godzilla statue in its Toho Cinemas Shinjuku theater by April of next year.

Meanwhile, Edwards has been signed to make “Godzilla 2,” which is set for a June 8, 2018, bow, with Legendary and Warner Bros. again co-producing.

The 28th Godzilla pic since Ishiro Honda’s first in 1954, Ryuhei Kitamura’s “Godzilla: Final Wars” earned a disappointing $12 million following its 2004 release, prompting Toho to put the character into cold storage.

Geoff Johns Confirms Teen Titans Television Series Shoots Next Year

As reported months ago, a Teen Titans live action one hour television series titled Titans, was in the works for the cable channel TNT. Titans will star Nightwing/Dick Grayson as the lead, along with other known Teen Titans characters like Starfire and Raven.

Today via twitter a fan asked Geoff John who’s helping with the project for an update on the series and he tweeted back confirming that they’ll start shooting next year

Cary Fukunaga Will Shoot Stephen King’s It Next Summer

Good news, horror fans: After a very long development process, it looks like a big-screen adaptation of Stephen King’s seminal horror novel It is finally going to happen. Vulture spoke with the project’s producer Dan Lin last night at an awards-season party celebrating The Lego Movie (which Lin also produced), and he confirmed that It will be his next live-action movie, with True Detective helmer Cary Fukunaga confirmed to direct. “The idea is to start official prep in March for a summer shoot,” said Lin. “Cary likes to develop things for a while, and we’ve been with this for about three or four years, so we’re super excited that he stayed with it. You guys are gonna be really excited.”

That’s an understatement: Aside from a 1990 ABC TV miniseries boasting a memorable performance from Tim Curry as the evil clown Pennywise (a human guise for the book’s titular evil being), It has never quite gotten the cinematic treatment the story deserves, and Lin says his big plan is to split King’s sprawling novel into two movies. “The book is so epic that we couldn’t tell it all in one movie and service the characters with enough depth,” explained Lin; the first film, then, will be a coming-of-age story about the children tormented by It, while the second will skip ahead in time as those same characters band together to continue the fight as adults. Though Fukunaga is only committed to directing the first film, Lin says the in-demand helmer is currently closing a deal to co-write the second.

And no one is more excited about the project’s renewed movement than It’s author. “The most important thing is that Stephen King gave us his blessing,” said Lin. “We didn’t want to make this unless he felt it was the right way to go, and when we sent him the script, the response that Cary got back was, ‘Go with God, please! This is the version the studio should make.’ So that was really gratifying.”

Ryan Reynolds Will Star in ‘Deadpool’

Uh… It’s Chimichanga Time.

You knew it was only a matter of (chimichanga) time until this: The news, via Deadline, that Reynolds is signing on with Fox to star in ‘Deadpool,’ the ‘X-Men’ spinoff about the “Merc with a Mouth.”

It’s one of the most improbable movie-character comebacks in history. Fox debuted Deadpool (ish) in 2009’s ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine,’ where Ryan Reynolds played the character as a wise-cracking mercenary with a couple of swords and a bad attitude. At the climax of the film, though, creative license (and some truly awful makeup effects) turned Reynolds into a mute martial artists with giant swords coming out of his arms. Because that’s what you think of when you think of Deadpool: A guy who doesn’t talk with huge sword claws.

‘X-Men Origins’ was a flop with audiences and critics (though it did make a fair amount of money), and while talk persisted of a potential ‘Deadpool’ spinoff with Reynolds, the project never went anywhere (the flopitude of Reynolds’ DC superhero movie, ‘Green Lantern’ certainly didn’t help matters). But then test footage for the film leaked online last summer, scoring rave reviews from fans, and generating a new wave of interest in the character. A few months later, ‘Deadpool’ was finally a go. And now Reynolds is officially in as well. Not the outcome I would have predicted at the end of ‘X-Men Origins,’ when (SPOILER ALERT FOR SOMETHING THAT WILL OBVIOUSLY BE RETCONNED OUT OF EXISTENCE) a decapitated Deadpool shushed audiences in maybe the worst post-credits scene of all time.

Deadpool will be directed by Tim Miller, the special-effects expert who helmed the awesome test reel. According to Deadline, shooting is scheduled to begin next March. Chimichangas for all!
