CYBORG — Ray Fisher Didn’t Know He Was Getting A Solo Movie

http://static.squarespace.com/static/51b3dc8ee4b051b96ceb10de/t/5447ccc5e4b01faf4db45c0d/1413991622351/?format=750w

The 27 year old Ray Fisher first got the attention of Hollywood after playing Muhammad Ali in Fetch Clay, Make Man. Standing at 6-foot-4, a ripped 212 pounds, and a classically trained veteran of the Shakespeare Theater of New Jersey, Fisher seemed destined to be a superhero.

Before he joined the DC cineverse, Fisher was rumored for Star Wars: Episode VII and was even scouted by director Ang Lee for a Joe Frazier vs Muhammad Ali 3D boxing movie.http://static.squarespace.com/static/51b3dc8ee4b051b96ceb10de/t/5447cd27e4b0e4ae9da2f4e5/1413991719760/?format=500w

Fisher likely signed a gigantic, multi picture deal with Warner Bros., but the studio gave him no clue as to what those movies might be. Just a couple of hours before Warner Bros. announced its eleven movie plan, the studio informed Fisher that his character Cyborg would be getting his own solo movie in 2020. Not bad for an actor who had zero film credits before Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Fisher on the announcement:

“I didn’t know the extent to which DC and WB had planned on taking my character. When I signed on, I just wanted to be part of this world. But that specific information, I found out then and there. I didn’t think I’d be getting my own stand-alone film. It’s a huge honor, but a bit of pressure comes along with it. My mind is just boggled right now.”

On meeting the cast:

“I met everyone in the Justice League except Henry Cavill and Ezra Miller.”

A logical guess is that Batman/Bruce Wayne, Wonder Woman, or Aquaman will be Cyborg’s first contact with the Justice League.

Fisher on working on Batman v Superman:

“It was surreal. You get this idea of going to work on a Hollywood set as being really stressful and nerve-wracking. But it blew that stereotype away. If they did have stressful times, it wasn’t while I was there.”

It’s an exciting time to be a movie geek. It’s crazy to think we have twenty-one superhero movies coming out in three years.

Toys R Us Pulls ‘Breaking Bad’ Action Figures After Parent Petition

Toys R Us Pulls 'Breaking Bad'Toys R Us is sending its “Breaking Bad” action figures on a trip to Belize, if you catch the drift.

Following a Change.com petition from a Florida mom that called for the retailer to stop selling its line of action figures based on the AMC drama, the toy company announced it would pull the collection from its shelves and online store. The petition claimed that the toys were a “dangerous deviation from (Toy R Us’) family friendly values.”

“Let’s just say, the action figures have taken an ‘indefinite sabbatical,’” a Toys R Us rep said in a statement, referencing a line from the show.

“Florida mom petitions against Toys ‘R Us over Breaking Bad action figures.” I’m so mad, I’m burning my Florida Mom action figure in protest

ABC Gives Put Pilot to Project Based on Tom Hanks’ ‘Bachelor Party’

Tom Hanks Bachelor PartyDoubling down on two TV trends — mining nostalgic movies for TV source materials and the new fall shows’ infatuation with romantic comedies — ABC has given a put pilot with a heavy penalty to a half-hour comedy anthology series based on the raunchy Tom Hanks comedy “Bachelor Party.”

The project, which hails from Small Dog Picture Co. and the Walcott Company in association with 20th Century Fox Television, plans to examine relationships and the institution of marriage through the lens of three couples: one about to get married, another recently divorced and a third just falling in love. They will experience the trial-by-fire that is the modern day, co-ed bachelor/bachelorette extravaganza.

“Bachelor Party” is co-created by JJ Philbin and Josh Malmuth, with Philbin executive producing and Malmuth co-executive producing. Additional executive producers are Jason Winer, Max Winkler, Jake Johnson and Renate Radford, with Mary Lee serving as producer. Winer and Winkler will alternate directing duties in series. Schedule permitting, Winer will direct the pilot.

This is not the only adaptation of a Hanks vehicle to surface during this season. Fox recently nabbed a comedy event series based on “Big” from “Enlisted” exec producers Kevin Biegel and Mike Royce.

Innovative Masks and T-Shirts That Use Smartphone Animation

http://static.squarespace.com/static/51b3dc8ee4b051b96ceb10de/t/543efafde4b0a4f2ae6dc4cb/1413413636552/?format=500w

Thanks to the increasingly realistic make-up effects we see in film and the expensive cosplay endeavors that have grown more and more accurate and elaborate, plain ol’ rubber Halloween masks just don’t cut it anymore. They have no wow factor, and they certainly aren’t scaring anyone. Mark Rober and his Digital Dudz team are here to the rescue. They’ve developed masks and t-shirts that house any Android or Apple phone (including that giant iPhone 6 Plus) which can play animation via their app. There are are some really cool designs, and Marvel even gave them permission to do a couple Iron Man shirts and a Captain America shirt. The shirts are the perfect lazy costume for those of you (like me) who live in areas where it’ll probably still be too hot to rock an awesome costume hoodie.

Below the shirt gifs is an in-depth video where you can see the shirts and masks in action, as well as their faux real body suits and prop illusion costumes. All the masks, shirts, and costumes are available here for very reasonable prices and just in time for Halloween.

Why Wolverine Can’t–And Shouldn’t–Come Back (Spoilers)

Warning: If you have not read “The Death of Wolverine #4” yet, do not read this article.

The Wolverine is dead, and he’s never coming back.

No, for real. The Death of Wolverine #4, out this week, put the final coda on Logan. And Like editor Mike Marts suggested in past interviews, Marvel sealed an airtight lid on Wolverine’s fate.

This is no metaphor. Wolverine’s death came via an adamantium bath, which when cooled, formed into the indestructible alloy. As Wolverine brought the killing blow to the creator of the Weapon X program, the adamantium sealed into a permanent cocoon.

When you sit down and really consider it, this fate doesn’t come with much of a backdoor. Once solidified, we all know that adamantium is unbreakable and impenetrable. The only thing that could breach it, The Muramasa blade, is out of the picture. Wolverine broke the mystical sword into several pieces and buried them in secret locations—information that now joins Logan in the grave.

But, even if someone could even crack open the adamantium encasing Wolverine, the man inside would just be a corpse. Death-by-adamantium does quite a number on the mortal body, and as we’ve known for months now, Wolverine is only a mortal. At the very least, he died by asphyxiation. The sentient virus from the microverse that countered Wolverine’s healing factor is still coursing through his lifeless body. And there’s no cure for it. It even stumped Reed Richards, Marvel’s brightest mind, as he struggled to find a treatment in Death of Wolverine #1.

This is comics, however, so there’s no argument against the fact that Marvel could conjure a solution multiple solutions in an instant. But it would feel beyond contrived. The publisher dug deep to find the most-fail proof deathtrap available for James Howlett. Imagine how much deeper they would have to dig to yank him out of it? Not only would it be a disservice to the readers who invested in Wolverine’s death march, but it would also come as a slap in the face to the character. He had finally made peace with his mortality. By striking every classic “Wolverine” moment off his bucket list—like fighting Sabretooth, donning the Patch persona one last time, and ending the Weapon X program that made him The Wolverine in the first place—he didn’t have much left to do but peacefully pass.

In the end, fate even granted the Wolverine his final wish. As he drew his final breathe, he watched the sun peacefully set. His arc came to a close, and it would be nothing short of a gimmick to reopen it.

Tom Hardy Sought for X-Men: Apocalypse’s En Sabah Nur

Tom Hardy Sought for X-Men: Apocalypse’s En Sabah Nur

Tom Hardy seems to be a popular man for comic book properties. He already took on Christian Bale’s Batman in The Dark Knight Rises and, earlier this week, was said to be up for a role in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad. Now TheWrap reports that 20th Century Fox is keen on casting the Mad Max: Fury Road star in Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Apocalypse.

Hardy would play Apocalypse (that blueish fellow featured in the Days of Future Past post-credits tease). Created by Louise and Walter Simonson, Apocalypse (En Sabah Nur) made his debut in X-Factor #6. The world’s first mutant, En Sabah Nur was born in Egypt around 3,000 BC and used advanced technology to make himself an eternal conquerer, believing whole heartedly in survival of the fittest.

Kinberg, along with X2: X-Men United writers Dan Harris and Michael Dougherty, is developing the screenplay for the film which Bryan Singer will return to once again direct. X-Men: Apocalypse is set for release on May 27, 2016.

Sounds pretty exciting what do you think?

JEM AND THE HOLOGRAMS Movie Has a 2015 Release Date

http://static.squarespace.com/static/51b3dc8ee4b051b96ceb10de/t/54401270e4b082c8addfa365/1413485169916/jem-and-the-holograms-movie-has-a-2015-release-date?format=500w

Universal Pictures revealed today that director Jon M. Chu‘s live-action Jem and the Holograms movie will be released on October 23rd, 2015. There’s a lot of buzz surrounding this movie, because there’s a lot of fans out there who grew up watch the 1980s Hasbro animated series.

The story “centers on an orphaned teenage girl who becomes an online recording sensation. She and her sisters embark on a music-driven scavenger hunt — one that sends them on an adventure across Los Angeles in an attempt to unlock a final message left by her father.”

The cast for the film includes Nashville actress Aubrey Peeples as the lead character Jem; Disney’s A.N.T. Farm’s Stefanie Scott as Jem’s sister, Kimber; Pretty Little Liars actress Aurora Perrineau will play Shana; and The Fosters‘ Hayley Kiyoko will take on the role of Aja. Juliette Lewis and Molly Ringwald also have roles in the movie that haven’t been revealed.

Chu is known for directing some Step Up movies, a couple of Justin Bieber documentaries, and G.I. Joe: Retaliation. I’m not really a fan of anything that he has done, but this seems like the kind of film that he would do well with.

TREMORS 5 Is Coming and Michael Gross Is Back!

http://static.squarespace.com/static/51b3dc8ee4b051b96ceb10de/t/54413aa7e4b0566007bd0828/1413561000578/tremors-5-is-coming-and-michael-gross-is-back?format=750w

Tremors 5 is in development, and weapons enthusiast Burt Gummer (Michael Gross) will be back to take on some more deadly graboids. Only this time his adventure will take place in South Africa.

The news come from Bloody Disgusting, who says that the film not only includes the classic graboid creatures and the Ass Blasters, but a brand new creature will be introduced as well. Here’s the synopsis that was released:

“The theatrical release of the original Tremors in 1990 combined suspense-filled action, sci-fi imagination and witty humor in the tale of a tiny Nevada town terrorized by giant man-eating worms known as Graboids. The Graboids eventually morphed into even more deadly creatures known as Ass Blasters. In this all-new adventure that travels halfway around the world to South Africa, the Graboids and the Ass Blasters are not only bigger and badder but Tremors 5 introduces an additional unexpected surprise that raises the stakes in the battle for survival.”

Glenn Ross, General Manager and Executive Vice President, Universal 1440 Entertainment said in a statement,

“The Tremors franchise has built a reputation for high intensity fun and suspense and this installment takes it to a whole new level.”

The movie also stars Jamie Kennedy (Scream) as Burt’s new right hand man, tech-savvy Travis. Tremors 5 will be released on Blu-ray Hi-Def, DVD and Digital HD in 2016.

Captivating First Footage from Disney’s Animated Short FEAST

http://static.squarespace.com/static/51b3dc8ee4b051b96ceb10de/t/544045f2e4b0285d3d341066/1413498367951/?format=750w

Disney has released close to a minute of footage from their new animated short “Feast,” which will be attached to theatrical screenings of Big Hero 6. The short comes from first time director Patrick Osborne, who was an animator on films such as Wreck-It Ralph and Tangled, and was Head Animator on Disney’s 2012 award-winning short “Paperman.”

“Feast” follows a man’s love life as seen through the eyes of his dog, Winston, and is revealed “bite by bite through the meals they share.” One of our editors saw the short last month, and wrote up a detailed summary that goes into how the man goes from feeding Winston dog food to more extravagant meals. I really hope kids don’t start serving their dogs plates of nachos. There’d be a mighty mess to clean up afterwards… and it wouldn’t be cheese.

The short looks to have improved upon the 2D/3D hybrid animation used in “Paperman.” Perhaps it’s just the fact that this film uses more color, but it really seems to be more vibrant and pop off the screen more. The lighting in particular is very striking and adds a lot of warmth and depth. It’s only a matter of time before we see a full feature using this type of hybrid animation, which brings Disney back to its 2D roots while simultaneously blazing a whole new trail.

You’ll be able to watch “Feast” in its entirety before Big Hero 6 starting November 7th.
